Is this what Iodine looks like on gold coins?

Or is this somehow natural...I've owned a few 1869's and seen a few more and never seen this pumpkin orange look.

What are your thoughts on the color...

Not sure about the color. But it does look like it had an early cleaning (at least on my phones screen anyways).

It looks fooled with. Not sure about the substance that was used to do so.

I does not look like iodine to me. The color looks a little off, but it might be from the way the photo was processed. The dark stuff in the letters does not have the iodine look.

Here is a piece that was treated with iodine.

The obverse looks like it might have spent time in contact with a piece of leather.

Maybe this is possible buy it would have go be sandwiched in it for quite a while...and there would be signs of impurities in the metal which I don't really see.

Anyhow, just odd color I've not yet seen on a on this date of a coin so thought I'd ask.
