I love old holders and think they contain a significant part of numismatic history. I have been collecting various holders housing peace dollars. If you know of any please let me know. Here is what I have so far. Also if you know of any david hall peace dollar flips available let me know. Thanks in advance.

I'm kinda the same as you but with gold.
Crack and resubmitt (some of those look at least MS65'ish).
You need at least one of the old ANACS photo certificates, and preferably one of the Washington, D.C. style and one or more of the Colorado Springs styles.
That a nice collection you have there! I like it a lot. If I run across a strange holder with Peace dollar in it I'll for sure let ya know. Cool collection
Cool collection of keepers there!!!
Awesome slabs collection! I love the white label fatty and the 34-S Rattler is sweet!

Go to the CRO website (Archive section). There is an image of a colonial in an ooooold, hand-made wooden holder, complete with typed label. It almost looks like an early prototype for a modern slab. I believe that a Forum member bought it.

Oh man, there was a 26-s Redfield hoard dollar in an old Blanchard slab on the bay just a couple days ago. Did you see/buy it? Item 282405897060
Collector, occasional seller
@ChrisH821 I thought about getting that one.... but I preferred to wait on an actual Paramount Redfield. If you have any other leads... please let me know. Thanks.
There are many Peace dollar Redfields on eBay all the time.
Here's an interesting self-slab. Circa 1958. A little history from Sheridan Downey:
"Robert Earl Cox was the preeminent collector of United States Half-Dollars in the years preceding Stack’s sale of his collection in April 1962. (Metro. NY Numis. Conv. Sale, April 26-28, 1962.) His virtually complete collection encompassed the gamut of 50¢ pieces. It commenced with a VF specimen in copper of Peter Getz’ 1792 depiction of George Washington and ended with a date set of uncirculated and proof Franklin half-dollars. It included patterns, errors, die and hub trials, fantasy pieces, commemoratives halves and the territorial issues of Hawaii.
Cox displayed his half-dollars in sturdy cardboard holders made by Art Craft. The holders were individually prepared. Each shows the date and denomination along with the Beistle attribution, the common name of the variety, if any, and a word or two about characteristics of the die pair. Thin black tape was used to seal the edges and provide a narrow frame for the holder.
Cox purchased this coin from B. Max Mehl January 2, 1958. A page from his ledger shows the cost, $50 plus $4.75 for the Art Craft holder."
Sadly, of the many dozens of half dollars R.E. Cox had slabbed only two are known to have survived, this one and an 1813 O.107.
Lance.
Mehl died in 1957. The name of his firm survived for some years, however. The company name (and perhaps remaining stock?) was purchased from his heirs, and the company was relocated from Texas to California. It continued to function until the mid-1960's. Based on the dates shown in the ledger page (previous post by Ikeigwin), Mehl was already dead.

Here's an old OLD holder.
When it came in the shop, it was full of 5 Libs and 2.5 Indians.
I filled it with sovereigns so I could sell the coins.
Were any of them toned? Some people think that's how some of the golds would get toning.
Here's one I sold years ago but wish I had now...

very cool thing!
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

While I love your new 1804 silver dollar, I will bet you that as many coin collectors will look at and gawk at Peacedollar88's nifty little slab display as your1804 silver dollar display if they were side by side!!
LOL!
We need this in the thread. (What, no bar code?)
Lance.
Baker-34, W-11150 variety, Plain Edge. Considered to be Rarity-3.
Here we have a perfectly nice Washington piece which was intentionally struck in shallow relief so as to simulate wear and aid acceptance in commerce.
But the real story is that it is housed in this ancient-looking seemingly home-made wooden slab (complete with hand-typed slab label) which appears to date to the first part of the 20th century but which looks remarkably similar in layout, size and configuration to a brand new PCGS holder.
First we've ever seen, or heard about, possibly unique, extremely charming and likely to win any contest to see who has the oldest slab.
Here's one you don't see everyday!
Here's a little lot I've accumulated over the years.
@gtstang Very Impressive! I love that Camp David overstrike in the original holder!
Does anyone have one of those toilet seat slabs?
Very nice holder examples
Thanks for sharing them here for me [us]

@drunner it's was truly a pleasure this last weekend. I have learned so much from you. Also, the two peace dollars I got from you are out of this world! Please be on the lookout for me!

Really neat awesome set! I want/need that 34-S Rattler!
Some nice old/odd slabs.
A few I own or have owned:
Love old holder threads - thanks for posting the Peace dollars.
I TRIED TO INFORM YOU! look I commented and told you it was on ebay before I pulled the trigger lol!
Bummer! I did not get the notification from the comment you left on my Registry Set! Either comments are not sent from there, or it went to my junk mail. Oh well, keep me in mind if you do part with it, you got a pretty good deal on it btw!
I like the unusual shape of the mccs slab. This one seems odd though, it just has the year. No description or grade, was this normal? Maybe similar to the bulk graded coins that just say brilliant uncirculated?
I assume the mccs holders are the ones known as the "toilet seat"
nice different holder here, i like
Casey . .
I will be on the lookout . . . . . seriously. I'll reconfigure my will . . .and put you as beneficiary of my NGC Black Peace . . . . .
I won't be parting with it until then, unless I figure a way to "take it with me" . .so it might have to go to you . . .

Found one of these yesterday.
There is a local dealer who basically did the rare coins bit (buy/sell) but was essentially a hoarder of lower priced 'stuff' who is now digging into his safe. All KINDS of fun junk has surfaced...

I have a similar one. Picked it up because it was accurately graded and cheap for the coin that's in it.
I bought this old wooden slab from CRO a few years back and it is one of my favorites.
