POLL- What's your favorite coin type and why?

Good morning all,
To start off the morning with some fresh content for everyone to see, I wanted to do a poll on what everyone's favorite coin type is. I'll have quite a few options, so let's get to it!
POLL- What's your favorite coin type and why?
This is a public poll: others will see what you voted for.

Of the choices listed, I went with commemoratives. Lots of great designs and history with the commemoratives. And you can often get a lot of coin without spending a ton of money in many cases.

That's a beautiful picture!!
Can I vote for more than once? Although I especially like IHC's, 2-cent pieces, & Morgan Dollars as well, the Walking Liberty halves (and current ASE's) get my nod for most beautiful circulating coin design.
The old Large Cents have a certain character to them, the way the copper takes on various shades. Also, they are more or less the root of US coin collecting. Another reason is that they are not as popular as something like Morgan Dollars. Seems a bit harder to find nice examples that are available...
Gobrecht Dollars.
Starry reverse to be exact
Tokens and medals ... although some may not consider them a "coin type."

Liberty Seated Half Dollars. In particular, the first three years.
Walkers, of course, but I also like Standing Liberty Quarters, Saint Gaudens DEs, Draped Busts halves and dollars and Seated Liberty designs.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I would argue the shield 5 cent coin. For me the coin has to have the denomination largely written with a number (not letters or roman numerals!) for easy recognition. I also strongly prefer using symbolic images to images of people. This one ticks both boxes.
This is saying I value coins for their utility, as beasts of burden, before I value them for their artistic value.

I answered "dime and half dime." This was the coin that got me hooked on the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle type coins. I still think that the design looks best on the dime, followed by the half dime.
And here is a high grade 1800 half dime. Given the tiny size of this coin, the level of detail is remarkable. The early mint had a very difficult time striking these coins well. This piece is an exception.
Impossible to choose just one type! I like most all of them!

Lots of very nice and unique opinions and reasoning here!
If you'd asked about design, I'd have answer differently. But it's hard not to like gold. It's so warm and...well...so RICH looking.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Seated Liberty Series (Half Dimes, Dimes, Twenty Cent, Quarters, Half Dollars and Dollars) - There are sooo many varieties!

Well, when I had put "Describe" next to the selections I was looking to get more specific designs under the more broad categories. So please, fire away!
Half dollars because old eye's can see them eazy.
Gold as in Southern Gold. But also like commemoratives a bunch.

About Findley Ridge
Large cents--lots of interesting varieties, including ones with interesting engraving errors like 1/000, and---as noted previously---lots of ties to the history of collecting and grading coins in the U.S.

i like the looks of the bust halfs and some of the old commem. halfs. i like the looks of them
i chose gold coins, because they are very important to our nation's history and economic growth. plus, i like the size and weight in addition to their eye appeal when heavily circulated.
i do very much like draped bust silver pieces though...of any denomination because i think that design looks so good, even with lots of wear.
I kind of like lettered-edge bust half dollars.
They are among our earliest coins, were designed and minted with crude material and tools (by later standards) under difficult circumstances (witness all the mishaps), offer wonderful types and variety, are generally available in exceptional condition (for all but a few years they were the largest denomination banks could amass), and their quirky flaws give them real character (like the 1814 below).
There's also a lot of history associated with their production (which is true of other series, of course).
Because so many design elements were hand punched, die marriage differences are readily apparent. That makes collecting by varieties or die pairs a lot of fun.
Oh yeah...and my old eyes appreciate the larger size.
Lance.
I like Gold Indians
Bust quarters is where its at. Perfect size, great prices and lots of varieties.
I love Peace dollars but I'm "between sets" at the moment. Actually I'm trying to be a type collector at the moment..... here, there, & everywhere.
There were some very ugly gold designs starting with the 1813 half eagle and continuing into the 'teens, 'twenties and 'thirties, up until August 1834.
Here are couple of ugly, but expensive gold coins.
Do I only get to pick 1?
walkers, buffs and SLQs, I suppose in that order too.
I like 1796-1828 bust quarters. Historical coins, great designs with optimal proportions, and every single one is somewhat of a unique individual, and while no two are exactly alike, a fairly well- matched set of Browning varieties is a challenge. Many are very tough to locate in any condition.

I chose halves and specifically CBH's for the reasons @lkeigwin stated more eloquently than I ever could.
I like the time frame and when I first saw edge lettering, I was hooked.
I don't have many but appreciate what I do have and hope to acquire one like the 1814 posted above.

Walkers are special. They are flawless. Simple but symbolic with uber class. Dignity and grace. Confidence and humility.
They just reek of what makes our country great.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
There are so many beautiful specimens posted to this thread! I chose commemoratives only because it allows for such a multitude of designs and I definitely could not choose just one. Variety is the very spice of life...
There's always been only one favorite series with this old dog....The mighty Buffalo Nickel

This is difficult.... I really like Buffs, Mercs and Walkers.... Morgans are fantastic..... However, when I sit and look at my coins (I just did look at a selection)... It is gold that holds my attention.....I truly like gold coins.. all gold coins, but in particular, big gold coins.
Yep... gold is great....Cheers, RickO
I would have to say large cents are my favorite series.

CB and DBQ's Why? Because.
Mercury dimes for me. I just knew it when I saw it. So much detail packed into such a small coin.
Walkers and Mercury Dimes. Love the artwork on them. I also love old currency but this is a coin poll so I won't mention any currency.
Successful transactions: Illini420, Bajjerfan, Coinfolio, Chadc13, Konsole, DM679864, Weiss and many more
Gold. Mostly $2 1/2 Indians, but pretty much anything gold.
I actually like a lots o' series, but since I'm working on my 2 centers it's my current favorite (I have always loved copper for some reason).
Read it and weep people, 2 Cent pieces have one vote from some weird-o and that includes 3 centers that I also use to dabble in.
I've always enjoyed Classic Head $5's ...beginning(1834) to end (1838).
That MM above the date is pretty unique!
It's funny? I once posted a poll for what denomination has most variety/error coins? I voted for the Cents. which was the #1 voted Denomination. but now, in pursuing after varieties/errors only. I conclude that it is the Washington Quarters that have most V and E's. To me anyway?
