The creator of a forum "stock icon" has died.

I read this morning the bittersweet news that Chuck Barris had passed away. Almost immediately I though of the 7:30 PM time slot when the Gong Show was on. What a freakin' maniac and genius he was to tap into things to keep us entertained in a more innocent age. I can see him clearly with that stupid hat pulled down to hide his eyes as he jumped around the stage like an earlier version of the Energizer bunny.

The two things that really cracked me up were Gene-Gene the dancing machine and, of course, the Unknown Comic(does anyone know who that was?). I remember when I joined the forum and had no ability to upload an icon, I picked the bag-head.

So hat's off to Chuck Barris, I think that for at least a short time he made the world a better place. RIP......................

RIP Chuck. I remember watching the 'Gong Show' when I was a really little kid after school. I remember all of the characters.

According to Wiki: “The Unknown Comic” is the stage name adopted by Canadian actor and stand-up comic Murray Langston who is now 71. Gene Gene the Dancing Machine was Gene Patton who passed away in 2015 at 82.

Wow....just last week I watched a movie on HBO (forgot the name) about Chuck Barris & his TV success. I never did care for any of his daytime shows.

Yes I remember getting some laughs from his shows. I also remember one of his MCs. Rip Taylor.

The Gong Show was pure insanity...and I loved it. ;)

(Chuck Berry followed by Chuck Barris in less than a week. I'd be nervous if my name was "Chuck Barry" or "Chuck Berris".)

I believe that is 'Bernie' from 'Weekend at Bernie's' played by Terry Kiser.

Chuckie Chuckie Baby. My sister and I watched that show probably every day during the summer of 1976 or 77.

and you would be wrong in assuming that. it is common knowledge, or I thought it was, that my icon is John Prine whom I resemble in a nice sort of way.

Thanks for clarifying. After comparing the images; I started to second guess myself, as they looked different. I had to Google John Prine, as I had never heard of him before. Interesting.....

20 years ago I took my Grandson to a McDonalds 'Grand Opening' on a military base and I believe Ronald McDonald that showed up was Murray Langston aka the 'Unknown Comic' still hiding his face with makeup, but that voice and laugh of his gave him away. I wanted to ask, but then he was Ronald McDonald, right? At least in the eyes of my grandson he was.

    Anyways, RIP Chuck
