Recent buffalo nickel purchases......

2 of my recent buffalo nickel acquisitions for all to see. Both show the full beauty of this type 2 design.

Beautiful coins. You certainly can separate the wheat from the chaff at GSC.

Buffnixx - I'm thinking you may have picked another proof from GSC.

    The '15 looks very promising.

  • crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,071 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yes they look great. i wonder what the chances are they've been cleaned? If they haven't been you did very well as the 15 sure does look kinda proofy.

Both appear to be matte proofs to me; nice score!

This isn't the first time that GSC has dropped the ball on matte proof coins... You would think they would learn the signs/diagnostics and maybe take some classes.

Great Caesar's Ghost! You'd think GSC would have finally figured out what matte Buffs tend to look like. These 2 are beyond hammered. Nice.

Nah... Neither MPB but both are hammered... I would love to see the new owner's images... GSC has a tendency to sharpen their images...

  • BUFFNIXXBUFFNIXX Posts: 2,727 ✭✭✭✭✭

IMO they are both matte proofs.

This question may of been answered before so excuse me if it is repetitious to ask. On the 1916 Buff. why is the 6 larger than the other numbers in the date? And also it appears that the number size decreases in size from right to left,6191. Also the lower loop in the 6 is a tad larger than the loop in the 9. So if a punch is used for the 9 they do not just flip the 9 punch and use it for the 6 or vice versa. So there must be two different punches used. Thanks in advance.

Those have to be proofs to have that kind of detail!!!

Beautiful examples! Makes me hungry for a buffalo burger. :)

Both are proofs IMO. My only concern is that they may have been dipped as they show no color at all.

Good job Buffnixx. How many cherried Buff proofs are you up to know? 4? 5? When will GSC ever figure it out?...lol. And who are the numb nuts selling MPB's to these guys as mint state or "cleaned" MS coins? "Hey, these coins have no luster, they must be cleaned."

I am wondering if the 1915 pr64 is not a 64 because of a light cleaning? I was told that sometimes pcgs will do a slight downgrade for coins that were very lightly cleaned?

Coins are now in the pcgs database.
