My first fraudulent eBay buyer return case. Beware of this POS.

I sold a nice BU non-U.S. Mint set of 1983 coins on the 17th for 37.95 as the BIN, which I had not expected, since I sold two other similar sets prior to that this month for $30 each. The buyer requested an "item not as described" return on the day of receipt, claiming "the coins are not uncirculated with no luster." I immediately suspected that the buyer was dirty (a ploy to sub inferior coins), and I called CS. They noted the concern, and when I did not officially accept the return, they provided a return ship label to the buyer on their dime. The package arrived at my P.O. box earlier today, and since I was working 'til 5 p.m., couldn't inspect the package til after that. Meanwhile, eBay refunds the buyer automatically since I hadn't officially allowed the return.
Sure enough, as I opened the package in the P.O. foyer, I could tell immediately that 3 or 4 coins had been switched - especially the most valuable coins - the '83-P and '83-D quarters. Despite being steamed, I called the Resolution Center right away, and the agent I connected to was very cool and knew I was telling the story straight. Got a refund of the original sale price, and now the idiot is on their radar as a thief.
If you so desire, add iconicwabbit of Masury, Ohio to your blocked list.
Lesson learned: only ship sets of coins in tamper proof packaging. At least it will deter most losers from doing what this idiot did.

I don't understand why theses thiefs risk it for so little profits, not to diminish your loss, but scratching my head at the stupidity.

I get how that could make money for older sets, but not more modern ones.

The lower the value of the item you are selling the more annoying the bidders are, and the rats come out of the wood work. I've never understood it personally, I have seen it happen. You would think the higher valued transactions would be the problematic ones.
thank you, blocked.
It's happened to me a couple of times over the past year. I've mostly stopped selling coins (or anything else) on eBay.
Please send me $37.95......Thank you!
I see this person is selling too. I wonder how much of it has been scammed from others.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
So, theft and deceit mean nothing to you? You're okay with this?
You either have very low standards or you're cut from the same cloth.
Pretty trivial in the larger scheme of things. I haven't blocked anyone else's problem customers.
There is nothing trivial about theft. Where do you draw the line when theft becomes criminal?
Afford can't be bothered with such a tiny amount , his ebay sales consist of kilogram gold bars and lightly used Lamborghini's
Mail and wire fraud do not require that the target/victim actually lose money or be defrauded, only that an attempt was made. Of course, law enforcement tends not to bother expending resources to pursue minor cases which is a shame. If authorities would make an example of a few, maybe things would change.
I agree Outhaul, I really don't get where some of these people get there ideas from......I work hard for my money.
Thieves are scumbags even if they stole something worth 1 cent. I have no tolerance or mercy for them.

Thanks for the heads up. He's blocked.
Bad enough he tried to rip you off---but his username has the one overused and misused word that drives me absolutely nuts (iconic). Everything and everyone is iconic now.
It's nearly impossible to hear a newscast or read an article without some mention of someone or something being "iconic."
Enough already!
Rant over.

Thanks for the alert. This is a valuable service to forum members, hopefully preventing bad experiences in the future. Cheers, RickO
Just a helpful aside here, highlight the username in the OP's post and then if you are using Chrome you can right click and search google, the post here shows up about 3-4 slots down in the search result so you can find postings on forums like this one for eBay frauds that otherwise escape under the radar of no negative feedback for buyers.
turds have a similar scent to those kind of eBay users
