I think they got the grade wrong-Gold for Gold

In an earlier post I mention that a 1850-O twenty lib. had gotten a gold sticker.
Luster is outstanding even though my photos don't show it and wear is minimal that the coin was much better than an AU-53 when it was graded. At the time I was happy it came back Au.

Very nice!
Latin American Collection
That coin was originally graded over 18 years ago. A LOT of changes to gold grading standards since then. Today, it is no less than an AU55. Nice looking coin. And back then an AU53 could have been the "correct" grade. We're light years from the standards of the OGH days today.
Wow, great mint frost, luster and eye appeal. Easily a 58 these days IMO. A major auction would reflect actual grade and strong interest. Who wouldn't want to own a beauty like that?
Great coin!
Gold on Gold, the stuff of hopes and dreams. Lovely!
Jeez, that looks like AU-62/3. It's a beast!
Wow... beautiful gold coin... yep.. you have an upgrade in the making there... Cheers, RickO
Now that's a pretty $20.

Thanks guys for the compliments on the coin.
I plan on keeping it in the current holder until I'm ready to sell
It will be one of the coins I bring to a major show to have photos done to really show the coin.
I'd prefer to have someone who makes house calls or if near Western Mass. bring them to someone who can image them while I wait.
That's a 58 all day long today.
I just submitted and sold an 1850 looked just like that , came back 58. (wish mine would have had the O mint" ) $$$$
I would not change holders or resubmit when it's time to sell the coin. You will get all the money in the current holder, IMO.
I'd agree if the coin were only 1 grade higher. But now several are suggesting it's a min of 58 or even AU 61/62ish. I think it would do better if in a 58 holder with green sticker....maybe even 58+ with green sticker. Here's a case where CAC should have a platinum sticker....2 grades or more off.
Very very very very nice. Quite a coin indeed.
it's hard to say for sure, but i tend to agree with ryk. i would pay a premium for the coin as is over a 58 with a green cac. if i saw the coin in hand and i thought it was worth it, i would pay even more.
also, i have seen a lot of pictures of BIGAL's ( is it bi-gal or big-al, i don't know just kidding) coins and they are pretty nice. i think BIGAL has a good eye.
You have to wonder what PCGS graders were thinking at that time with O mint $20 Libs. in AU were not trading very high. Since then they have exploded in value.
Has a nice look!

You need to control the resubmission. Submit for reconsideration with minimum grade 61. It stays in the holder and they will only reholder it if at that grade or higher. Then make the decision at a lower grade
That certainly a great suggestion but I looked at the reconsideration options and It appears you can only request one full grade or plus grade, suffix and then last option to check is any. I assume that means any of the preceding leaving only one full grade as the largest step.
steveben at 220# it's Big Al and turning 68 last week it's also Old Al
