I didn't make a 2017 purchase until the 6th. These are the seller's pics as I don't have it in hand yet. Contemporary encased Buffs are rather scarce (except for the "morality" ones) and this is a variety I didn't have so I pulled the trigger and used some eBay bucks to offset the price.
I am late to this party because my purchase was at the FUN show, and I had no way of posting the pictures.
My first purchase of the new year was a 1798 large cent. I didn't go to the show looking for this, but I am a sucker for nice early coins, and this one was irresistible. I also toy with the idea of doing a date a set of large cents. The slab grade is AU-53 with a green CAC sticker.
I pulled out my large cent book when I got home and determined that this is an S-179, which now has a rarity rating of R-1+. Sheldon called it an R-2. The most interesting parts of the two dies is the "small 98" in the date, and the "E" in "AMERICA" was first punched in upside down and then corrected.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
My first purchase at FUN was first of year, from David Sunshine, R4+ (~100 known). Really strong and original for the grade. Maybe should be in a F12 holder and is but very nice for that grade (looks like an F13.5 for wear - in betweener), but no worries given all its positive attributes.

steveben I saw your 57-O at the GC table at FUN. That and the other O-mint gold were fantastic! Congrats!

thanks, i just got it in the mail today.
i think it's a good purchase because the wear is even, the mint mark is very prominent and when you consider than only ~90 or so exist, it's pretty rare!

An 1884 PF67BN IHC , but I already have one. I wanted the 1883 PR67BN which was two lots before in the FUN auction.. Must have been distracted at the time. LOL.... Coin is available....send PM.
My first purchase of 2017 was a small piece of Vanadinite...
Sorry, not really a coin at all. Haven't been into them as much as a hobby of my own lately. But minerals are a nice change of pace, and a challenge to photograph.
Fun fact: Lots of people at PCGS have an interest in minerals including one particular company founder whose initials are DH.
I didn't get much time to shop at FUN as I was working at a friend's table, but on a walk to the restroom, I stopped by a random dealer table and picked up this at "bid," which I thought was pretty cool......
lkeigwin was kind enough to photograph these for me, and he did a fantastic job. Thank you, Lance!
Finally arrived after much anxious anticipation! My super crappy pics do not show just how vibrant the colors are. The obverse is a dark gunmetal. The reverse looks like this only more vibrant. This one is worthy of a TruView submission.
A special thank you to Eye Appealing Coins for this beauty!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Regretted selling this a few years ago the moment it hit the bottom of the mailbox - bought it back in the recently completed FUN sale - J101, a Linderman restrike, NGC P67.

No coins yet this year - I hope to remedy that if I can get to the Boeing show near Seattle this weekend.
But I like the Wayte Raymond pages - I just got this one. It should be the easiest of the type set pages to fill and I expect to use it for some of my misfit coins.
Not sure why I picked this one up...I already have an example of the die marriage in high AU (actually cracked from ANACS MS 62) but I guess that I really am a little nuts about 1827s.
Edit: I'm not at all pleased with posting images on the new software.
My first 2017 purchase was this 1806/5 Draped Bust Quarter Dollar at FUN. It is originally from the Rory Rea Collection and had been off the market since 2006. Rory was the lead author of Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint 1796-1838.
Bought all three of the 2016 Centennial gold coins from the Mint. Alas, the Merc had staining across the obverse field. First purchase of the year is this SP70 Merc already holdered. Sent the other two in for grading and Trueviews this week.
edited to add....... I was surprised how many holdered SP70 Mercury's out there had rim issues besides the finning.
Some really cool coins, medals and other stuff. Nice eye candy for sure.

Interesting!!

Here is the original set of 1960 Heraldic Art dies by Robert McNamara. Purchased in 2016 but first to arrive in 2017.
An interesting thing about these dies is that the rays around the fleur-de-lis are incuse (on the medal) but nothing else is.

nothing as of yet. to be continued.
If this doesn't count, I'll post coins as soon as I photograph them.

Picked this up out of the Heritage FUN show auction. It is the last coin I needed for my raw Library of coins album.
These are the Heritage auction images.
Nice coins all.
I'm interested to see how this one looks with a white balance fix:

A shipwreck coin that was on its way to pay the troops in New France off the coast of Newfoundland in 1725
Of course it would be nice to show the obverse
