My oh my, where are all those US Coin Forum software naysayers??

Now that the new forum software has been in force for several months, it appears most of the naysayers have gone away.

I for one think the new forum software is quite good, not perfect, but what is?

Please feel free to chime in with any complaints or plaudits at this juncture.

Thanks again PCGS for providing this great platform. :)

I don't and I think you just like trolling with the disagree button. You like to go back to threads from years ago and hit disagree because you like to troll. Btw...notice that I disagreed with your post AND I posted to give a reason. Not a cowardly, trolling, action that you like to do. Of course, you were here on the forums before and this isn't your 1st account, right? So you have other issues....

Remove the disagree button, since people like you abuse it, and the forum software WOULD be better.

To GB....PCGS staff HAS addressed a lot of the issues that were there initially, so it is better. There are still things I don't like, but those are personal preferences. There are many things that ARE better; particularly the picture insertion portion. Much easier for folks, imho.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It is okay but I am still not a huge fan of it, I don't think it would do much good to complain about it for 2 or so months straight though and I bet many others feel the same way. It has grown on me but there are still a few things I would change about it such as the the list of usernames on the side, the bunchiness of website links and tabs that I never use, and getting a notification when I get a private message, what is the point of that?

Haven't tried to update some "educational" threads recently - hopefully the memory allocated to each thread has been expanded since the last attempt.

Other than that, getting comfortable with the new format.

Searching for old posts is not as easy. The biggest complaint I have is I haven't yet figured out a way to go through my PM's by each member. It only seems to come up as a running list with most current PM's first. I have no intention of flipping through 10,000 or more PMs to find something from 10-15 years ago. Should be a way to call up all your PM's by member.

I have very few complaints about the new software. I think they did a great job fixing most of the bugs in the beginning, but searching for past PMs is near impossible.

I agree with this. That is the only real complaint I have about the new format which is otherwise vastly better than the previous one, imo..

Overall, I think it is an improvement. Several features make it better...i.e. when opening a thread, it takes you to your last viewing/comment....tells you how many comments since your last viewing.... nice general appearance, easy to see who is online... etc., etc., etc.. Cheers, RickO

I was disappointed to observe and be targeted by a couple members who thought that it was ok to use the new functions to be vindictive, but then they went and got themselves exiled.
On a different note, I only discovered how to access the advanced search function today. It should not be such an obscure function to navigate to.

In all good time change has the tendency to grow on people due to "adapt or leave" mentality. I am sure that some have "left" or have made their presence known to be less apparent. There are things that I still don't care for, but, I am still here trying to adapt to these changes. By the time I figure it out...it will be changed again.

I like it so far. The only thing I miss from the software we had right before this one, was the keyword notification. If there was a thread started with the keyword, it would send you an email. It was nice for the BST.

I don't have a mobile device and on my desktop it just seems to have lost something. also, I had grown accustomed to the old format and to learn the navigation now just requires time that I don't have. I will say that some of the new features are an improvement but I really did like the old format and the way the screen was laid out.

so in that regard I guess I am a naysayer, but it makes no sense to complain since I am not really that important.

I have to agree that getting flagged is pretty petty. It's extremely cowardly to do it in secret as Bochi pointed out earlier.

I am happy with the upgrade, just think of how many times we had to explain how to upload pictures to new members.

"Flagging" someone's thread/comment is a way to inform the administrators that something may be in appropriate...as far as I know.

I like it, it works great for me. But then, all I use it for is just an occasional comment.

The thinks I like the best are:
    (1) Photos. In the old software, I never attempted to add one to a post. Now I have and it wasn't painful at all.
And since it appears that photos are stored here, they will be permanently attached to the posts and not slowly disappearing as they were in the old system because they are no longer hosted somewhere else.

    (2) Avatars. When I first registered with the Forum, I had an Avatar that just appeared. I don't know where it came from. I don't remember choosing it and I declined to wrestle with trying to change it. The current software is easy to work with, just like adding photos and I was able to change mine the first day.

    (3) The Disagree, Agree, Like and LOL buttons. I like these a lot. On the old system, if I found a post that I agreed with or liked but didn't really have a useful opinion to add, I would just post "I agree", "Plus One" or some other trite expression. And often I didn't add anything because it didn't feel very genuine. Now I use the buttons when I genuinely agree with or like a post. At first I also used the Disagree button a couple of times but that felt much more negative than I meant and really didn't offer any useful input, so now if I disagree with a post, I will add a post to explain why or just move on.

In all, I like the new system.

    The flagging that way.
There is also what jerseycat101 and a few others do to a few folks......they hit "disagree" with everything that one posts...and they go back months/years to older posts to hit disagree as well. Posts in threads that are last touched a year ago in some cases.

It is just a trollish thing to do. It shows a lot about them and their (lack of) character, imho.

To me, the disagree button is more about "Hey.....I think this coin is mint state and not a XF, do you agree?" type of thing...where others have posted and you want to add your validation but don't feel the need to keep typing the same thing multiple people already have. Or, you disagree with the person and you post WHY you disagree. Those are valuable and can be a learning thing.

The cowardly, childish "let me go and see how many posts of theirs I can just disagree with", is just pure trolling. imo.

Is what it is, but it is always the same couple of people doing it to multiple people. Even on threads where it is as benign as "Here's my latest coin purchase" and a picture.

That's the type of behavior I was referencing. End of the day, the opinion of these trolls doesn't matter...but they deserve to have the light shone on them and not be able to remain in the dark, hiding, with their trolling.

My instances are even worse, I have been flagged twice for abuse:

The first instance we had someone running a scam on the sports cards buy and sell section and after me being polite for a couple of days I finally became a little rude and some other alt/troll flagged me for abuse.

In the second instance in the sports cards section RepublicanMass was rude to the board and I was rude back but that was fine he tends to get rude sometimes as do I and we didn't flag each other. What pissed me off was once again someone else deciding to secretly flag me for abuse.

One new feature that I get a real kick out of is the count of "Views vs. Comments". It kind of reminds of a typical coin show. Lots of tire kickers vs. actual buyers and sellers.
