Thats a cool 1933 $5'r fantasy. Never owned a Native $5.
Maybe I can revisit this thoughtful fantasy & dare to pull trigger, but we're staring down another $9,000 in property taxes due in a just few months.
Roof over head versus Carr Art ?
Taxes doubled last year, and this one reality has really tamped down my fun hobby bucks.
$750 a month gets me nothing more than $350 did.
$350 a month seemed reasonable to avoid a lien.
Love that Indian series. I have a complete Indian quarter eagle series. I bought a couple of the DC silver native head and might have to send in a stray half eagle for the DC treatment.
I am curious if you think this is a good investment. I have a 1912, paid $400 a few years back, so total outlay is $620. Dan’s items do well , anyway just looking for some other’s opinions. Thanks

I'm a collector at heart, not in it for investment.
I feel your pain on property taxes, until last year, Texas passed a bill that gave homeowners $100,000 off our home taxes, if you’re disabled or over 65 ,it’s $105,000 off. Also Texas freezes your tax appraisal when you turn 65‼️👍
I’m 70 years now, so my appraisal value was frozen at $114,000….. I’m only paying $9000 worth of appraisal value.
I was paying close to $4000 a year in taxes, now I’m paying $290 a year.
They passed that bill in Texas because the appraisal values of Texas homes had sky rocketed‼️
Also that bill they passed made it where they couldn’t go up on your appraisal more than ( I think it was 5% in one year)‼️👍
They should do this every where.
Write your congressman and senators and governor in your state. Tell them if Texas can do it, so can your state ‼️
I personally think that you shouldn’t have to pay taxes after your 65……… you’ve paid taxes all your life here, give us a break‼️‼️‼️🎯

I can’t imagine paying the taxes some places have to pay.
Every time I go to this thread it goes to a blank page and I have to go back a page to see recent posts.
I took the plunge and purchased a gold half eagle today - sent in a 1912 AU - can’t wait to see it transformed into a 1933. I think Dan’s creation will fair better than the original!
I arrived late to this forum party maybe 8 years ago, but, I think there was an epic Carr thread that got disappeared/shut down/trashcanned back when the 1964D $ got released/ first issued. Other older timers will know better. I have just seen it referred to, rarely, in that it had more pages than this one. Do tell us more, please ?
I would love to know more, but search function into the distant past is not on my bucket list of things to spend a week on without success.
I would be sad if this thread get frozen as I do love me some Carr Art !
Whether I can afford it is personal.

If I remember correctly, sometime around 2016 there were a number of active Carr threads.
Maybe too many? And unfortunately the Carr haters sometimes got a bit vocal.
So IIRC, a Moderator asked that we confine Carr discussions to a single on-going mega-thread. A gentleman's agreement of sorts.
If there are missing Carr threads from that time, then maybe they were merged into this on-going mega-thread?
My memory isn't so good nowadays, so hopefully someone will correct me if I misstated anything.

It would have been 2010 (around September) that the Carr "1964-D" Peace mega-thread was going on. As I remember, there was something like 500 posts in just a couple days before the discussion was "closed". I do not know if it is still available for viewing. I did not find it in a cursory search.

I was going through some of Dan's coins and found these Bessie Coleman holdered sets I picked up ages ago. Here's the brass proof like set, with the description from Moonlight Mint.
I had rarely seen it referred to, thought it had 500 pages, still 500 posts is a bunch in a few days.
Thank You !!!
My first Carrs were aftermarket 1964 D Peace from those who bought in at $85 and $110 I see now. There was a time when 3 or 4 would run in same 10 day period at fleabay. I would pick examples that had great eye appeal & back then they rarely topped $200 close. Once I was satisfied, I stopped with the near daily searches.
Edit>>>
As I read now Tom Delorey's long ago post I am reminded of a Denver Mint employee who was on Denver 1964D Peace production floor. When I met him in that Seminar Class he was my classmate, and later led our on floor machinery tour of Denver Mint which was called the "Presidential Floor Tour" It was an amazing experience !
Tito still worked at Mint some 30 years later. He was/is Tito Rael who I took an ANA Seminar class in 1990's. That chance encounter was why I wanted Carr's Fantasy Peace Bucks, long ago sold out, all 1,964 of them.

I'm going to reread it the next few days.....
To celebrate I thought I'd add my 1964D set image and a spare Die 6 Proof reverse side up.
As I purchased the 5 piece set in custom holder, built by someone else, I now have a better understanding concerning the Die 5 Pair & Die 5 later strike/finish variants.

These were offered sometime towards the end of 2010 after a few different designs were shown earlier in the year. The stipulation was that there had to be a minimum amount ordered in order for production to go on. I think it needed to be something close to 15. This brought the cost down to around $100-$115.
