How many have been offered out of the 76?
I don't watch Ebay but remember someone posting a couple here that sold at close to $700 a few days after released.

I’m guessing it’s just a few, like 2-4, but reviewing eBay completed sales can tell the story. Maybe I missed some?
Just revisiting things with this thread, it's amazing how much the prices have increased on some of the older D. Carr pieces too! A real ground-swell since I last looked.....makes me want to start buying up these pups again! My 1916 Barber Halves & 22 Walkers are probably 7x what I paid for them!

Unless I missed it, there's been no discussion about Dan's unique design.
In particular, I noticed that Dan's 1837 reverse side has:
-- the 1836 orientation of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and
-- the 1838 orientation of the eagle.
I can imagine the USMint might've made these same changes if they had minted an 1837 Gobrecht dollar.
Carr is a true Intellectual Numismatist. As usual I will regret not buying something I saw factory fresh & available. But unlike my Coinage Art Hero Dan Man I cannot mint money. Sometimes the budget does not align with fun hobby expenditures. Buy what you love when you can. These shopping opportunities are fleeting.
@drfish said: @dcarr How much time do we have to track down a Seated dollar ? Economical options are quite scarce at the moment. Would a counter stamp be a disqualification ?
Thanks!
I won't be cutting off orders any time soon, since people will need time to find some. A coin show might be a better bet than eBay right now.
A typical counter-stamp (advertising) is pretty deep and it would show traces after the over-strike.
I’m not sure which one of these I have.Dan made two kinds of these……one was pastel color-toned…… the other was vibrant color-toned. I bet someone knows which one this is ‼️I don’t care which one it is…… like most

There are prices against those so Dan should have photos on dc-coin.com you can compare against.
There were two products listed for sale. One requires the submission of a contemporary Seated Liberty dollar while the other was pre-struck over a variety of more modern dollars. The latter option had very few produced and sold out immediately while the former option is still available.

How does this happen? An (modern) Olympic Dollar being used instead of an Era quality dollar, as the the listing states on MM?
.
The 19 produced (and sold out) with edge marking clearly states:
STRUCK ON A USA SILVER $
Host coin types/quantities/dates:
Morgan: (5): 1882; 1884; 1921; 1921-D; 1921-D.
Peace: (10).
Modern Commemorative: (4):
1983 Olympics, 1984 Olympics, 1986 Statue of Liberty, 1987 Constitution.
.
The coin depicted above, from @7Jaguars is one of these. In fact, the only one apparently struck on a 1983 Olympics dollar.
.
OTOH, the ones still available are all to be struck on a Seated Liberty Dollar to be supplied by the purchaser.

I wanted to overstrike an original seated dollar but the cheapest I saw was about 280 on ebay (that one went quick) and the total cost is then around 635 dollars vs. 2 (and change). So, well, gonna pass on the original as I did with the 1805 Dollar.
I also got the 1837 Gobrecht and it is an olympic dollar overstrike (Dan signed and listed which type of coin was over struck). These are very prooflike with wire edges, and a "double edge" if you look closely.

Congrats! You are very lucky to get the Gobrecht on an Olympic dollar! They were all sold out by the time I got to order.
I happened to notice them in his mintage figures catalog and inquired about them. Dan said he had some left over from an order that was commissioned by a distributor. He still has some and are presently available upon request.

Interesting marketing tactic: It's a secret who is distributing this Dan Carr dime.
Edit: I meant that the distributor's marketing is interesting. That is, how can we buy the product if we don't know who is selling it? Of course if they're not for public sale, then I understand it.

Much love and respect for @Bullsitter, through his kindness and generosity I was able to acquire the DC piece I had wanted and missed out on due to the quick sellout.
I got a different one: the same 1874-S but on the 1987 Constitution dollar for a little more than that one. One one of those was struck. Dropping with ANACS next week in Chicago. Wish I could have gotten some on the primary market but they went before I saw them. Saw a couple others, but passed. Doing the overstrikes on the Seated. Was able to get four and hope to locate four more within reasonable prices.

FWIW, I think the 1838's simpler design would look great on smaller coins. But I'm not sure what year(s) would be appropriate for a fantasy issue.
