I've looked over this card under lighted magnification and for the life of me I can't figure out why it's a 3. The spots on his bill are not missing paper because you can still the black ink dot matrix pattern. A beauty for a 3.

Crazy that there are only 3 Paige cards to choose from.

That's about as nice a 3 as anyone is gonna see!

    Very nice pickup.

Wow, that Paige is freaking outstanding. Congrats on the pickup.

Picked up a HOFer for my Basketball set and just got this ticket back from PSA the other day.

  • Ticket looks really nice in that holder Bobby. I recently discovered that PSA encapsulates concert tickets as well. I may have to do a few that I have gotten signed over the years to the ones that are somewhat valuable.

As for me, I am pretty much starting over in again in cards (sort to speak) as I have placed all my high end stuff in a safety deposit box after years of keeping them in a closet at home. I did this for mainly for two reasons.

1 - To avoid losing out on thousands in terms of if my home was ever broken into. A loss like that would be devastating.

2 - Putting my cards away at another location such as a bank means that I am not as tempted to sell a card as I am actually really happy with the little that I have. Out of sight, out of mind.

With that said, I have been debating what to start collecting and my main focus has been to acquire some Football cards from the 80's of players (Elway, Montana, Marino primarily) or sets that I feel I should jump on before they become out of reach. Also while they are still relatively affordable. Did you know that a second year Montana Topps card in a PSA 10 runs for about $240! Thats crazy. It may not be the most attractive card or set but it's still a second year Joe Montana in a PSA 10.

I just picked up his 85 issue last week. Thought I would now dive right in and get his rookie out of the way. The only other one that would be really expensive would be his 86 issue in a 10 (low pop of around 16). There was one currently up on eBay less than a month ago (listing ended with no sale) but the seller wants over $1000 from the last two sales which weren't even that long ago. One will eventually hit PWCC through bids and I'll try my luck there if funds are available at that time.

Here is a pretty nice looking 81 I just received in the mail today and I am not saying that just because it's mine. I have owned two of these before and the centering is what makes me fall out of love with them. This one in particular I thought has extremely strong corners and overall centering is very good when comparing to most examples I looked at before purchasing this one.

*That line on his last name that runs between the A and the letter N is on the holder.

Muffins - LOL regarding STAT!! It's funny, I was just thinking about how I've been on a binge lately so I'll probably pump the brakes for a while.

    Hilarious!

I've looked on the bay, but have not committed the search to see if there is. I know there's a yaz, so I am hoping. But, Dan I've heard Venezuelan Kaats are quite tough!

Marc is there tilt in the Montana? Or is it just how it is sitting in the holder?

  • Eric, good eye. It could sit a little more flat in the holder but it does has a slight tilt but its the best looking 9 from all three I have owned. Overall centering is more than good with me and top to bottom is perfect. Corners are razor sharp which one wouldn't find on many of the 9's. I shopped around and looked at quite a few and this was the best I saw and I am proud to add that one to my PC.

Gradually adding more Ryan cards, particularly liking nice clean Sharpie sigs. I have a raw signed example of this card, and now excited to acquire one in a PSA holder.

Here are my pickups this month. Very happy to add this pop 3 1968 Lilly to my set, it's my favorite card of his. Love the black high tops, sleeved jersey, old Cowboys logo, etc.:

I've been searching several years now for a well centered 1975 mini Killebrew card in PSA 9 grade that is both tilt free and fills the holder and finally found one.

Thanks guys on the ticket. What's nice is Cutch signed the ticket in person for me.

Marc... Nice looking Montana. You're on a Montana kick of late.
Yankeesman.... The Yogi is very nice for the grade.
    Trav... Spectacular Ryan Auto
James.... Love the Stand Up, that's one of my favorite sub sets
prgsdw... WOW on your Cowboy cards. JUST WOW!!!

Thanks for the comments fellas, looking forward to the Ryan auto coming home.....also picked this up the other day, centered nicely & maybe worth a closer look for a bump, but definitely a nice add to my '57T group.

When I looked at transaction details, I discovered that the card is being delivered to me by former MLB pitcher Dan Schatzeder. Looks like he's collected & dealt some serious cardboard over the years.

The Cowboys 10s are off the charts. Cliff Harris and Harvey Martin are two of the most under rated Cowboys of all time. If you look at Martin's sack numbers in the late 70s- early 80s they were off the charts (before they were kept as an official stat). Done in a 14 game season at that. Harris has always been a favorite of mine along with Waters. I miss the 70s

Here are some that arrived yesterday and today. Some of you may know that I did the Red Heart set. The Red Heart Minoso pictured is for a second lower grade set that I'm slowly working on. The borders on the cards aren't as white as they look in the pictures. The flash on the camera makes them look whiter.

  • Mike - Glad to see you back in the hobby. Beautiful 62 Clemente 8. Thats the kind that I would love to own myself. Unfortunately I dont think theres any chance of a bump. I see what appears to be very slight touched corners. It's so minimal but 62's better look more like 9's if they want to bump to at least an 8.5.

James - great haul and I also agree with Doug, love the centering. Those are prime examples.

These just arrived today. The 68 Oliva is for my 68 All Star sub-set. I'm down to needing one card to finish it. The PSA 9 Billy Cox Red Heart is an upgrade for the 8 in my Red Heart set. The 8 in my set now will be moved to my second set. The Kuenn looks nicer than the one in my first set so I will replace it with this one and put the other one in the second set.

I got it off eBay - paid 36 bucks.

I could only find 1 on a web search - the eBay seller described as a 60s item - but I really don't think cassettes were all the rage until the 70s and the item I found had it listed as 1971 which seemed correct?
