I don't think I'd crack this one. The reverse looks beautiful and definitely a good shot for an upgrade, but IMHO, I think there are some points on the obverse that would give me pause. The cheek is an odd color, but it might just be the image... what's in the field in front of Ms Liberty's face? ...and are the spots in between the bust and the date real or artifact of photography? I can't really assign grades on coins like these (high MS) without seeing it "in hand" and with a loupe. I guess that's probably why I don't do it for a living! ;-)
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
The dull spot on the cheek would bother me if I were looking at this piece in an MS-66 holder.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

the cheek has the look of a coin that has been "thumbed" and if that's true there's nothing you can do, probably the best thing would be to leave it in the holder.
Thanks for everybody's feedback. This turned out to be a lively thread.
While I'm not a Morgan Dollar collector, I do have a decent eye for original coins (e.g. untampered), and from where I sit I can say with 95% confidence this coin is what it is, and has been
The cheek just has some toning on it, like it sat on a piece of felt or an envelope or in a bag. It is a very common date so I'm sure there are tens of thousands out there that are also similar/original, but it is nice to see one in hand (as that is getting harder to do).
I knew this coin was better than a 65, and felt that at a 66 grade it was still better than the limited number of 66's I've had the privilege of owning so I thought I'd take a stab at putting it in the appropriately graded holder and looks like PCGS and CAC agreed on both accounts.
Happy Friday
PS. I do enjoy the conspiracy theorists, though, who suspect that every coin (other than the ones they own, of course) has been worked on

A larger image would be helpful.
I'll re-image this coin when it comes back from CAC. BTW, it stickered green, now at the MS66 grade level.

Am I the only one who suspects the cheek has been thumbed??
No+1
Can't say that it was thumbed per se, but it has been worked on.
