1799 cent

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,893 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've been actively searching for a modest 1799 large cent. I wanted something I could afford and one with decent surfaces. It didn't seem too unreasonable when I began looking 8 or 10 years ago. Little did I know.

I'm very happy with the below example from the collection of Ron Janowsky, EAC #166 (later consigned to Tom Reynolds).

One hole left in the large cents Dansco...

Lance.

    Cool! That's a great coin.

Dare we ask -- what's the empty hole?

Very nice, Lance - nice wholesome specimen there - it would certainly suit my needs as well!
Of course, I'd still need a Chain, and an 11/0, and some upgrades.....

This is one of the remaining coins I would like to own, but cost has just been out of sight. I used to own a pcgs 12 but sold it years ago.

Excellent - thats the one cent (no pun intended) to finish the date set my son and I started several years ago. We just got a decent 1804 at Long Beach last month.

super coin, congrats! Was this the date that you received from DLRC with the altered date or was that an 04?

Thanks for the comments, guys. This is a very tough date.

Moldnut, you have a long memory. That was an NGC 1804 that Conder proved was altered. (FWIW, DLRC and NGC did the right thing.)

Walkerguy, your collection is more than a few steps better than mine. You even helped me with a few castoffs. I can't wait to see the Chain Cent you choose.

The missing coin from the Redbook set is the '93 Liberty Cap. I set aside part of my IRA for one. LOL.

I have more than a few I'd like to upgrade. Still, I can't say how much enjoyment I get from the book of raw coins.

    Lance.

    First off...congrats on the pickup.

So, you've got a large cent Dansco album with all but one hole filled AND you're a top-notch photographer...why have we not seen pics of this? image
  • lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,893 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ha. I'll have to remedy that soon.

As for photography...well, I'm just trying to keep up with the masters here.

The 93 Liberty cap will be tough also, but they are out there. Finding one that is not a lump of lava will be the challenge. But you can do it!!

    Very Nice!

It's unusual to find a 1799 cent with a readable date and smooth, brown surfaces. That piece is quite a catch.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! image

Awesome addition! In my large cent date run, that spot is empty along with a few others. But I do have it surrounded by a 1798 and 1800 just in case!
