What a wonderful design. A shame it didn't last longer.

Thanks to Andy at Angel Dee's for this example!

The great thing about Angel Dee's is that they don't buy or sell anything but the best. I'm a long time customer and yet even when I offer to sell or trade-in a coin I no longer want or need if it doesn't meet their standards Andy and Alynne will politely decline and suggest other ways to move it.

How novel. He won't take in dreck because he doesn't want to sell it, no matter the price. Some other dealers represented on this forum are the same way. Those are the ones I want to do business with.

    Amazing strike.

Just look at the feather detail.

    Well done.

I totally agree. Best cent design by a mile and one of the best of all US coins.

Don't condemn the mint too much for replacing this design. The combination of metal flow problems plus the difficulty of striking the design on copper-nickel planchets accounted for the shortness of the series.

Nice designs are only one part of the circulating coin puzzle. The mint has to be able to mass produce the coin cheaply and well also. The high cost of production was the main argument against Teddy Roosevelt's "pet baby" the 1907 High Relief $20 gold.

WOW! That is only graded as an MS-64? I was thinking that it was at least an MS-65.

    Great coin and great design.

They should make a 1 ounce gold coin with that stunning majestic obverse and any old reverse you can think of.

That is a fine coin. The obverse strike is very strong. Nice pickup!

I am a big fan of Angel Dee's and Andy has pretty much singlehandedly filled up my PCGS boxes.

Nice photo too. Since you mention coin photography services on your posts, I'm guessing those are your images? Very good stuff.

One of my all time favorite designs. Great to see you adding to your small cents Lance. I was afraid you were going Bust almost exclusively, not that's that's a bad thing! Nice shooting too.

LOL. No, I haven't given up on them. Just being selective.

I also like large cents. After a very long time looking...almost 10 years...and being disappointed again and again, I finally bought a 1799. I'll share it soon.

Yes, I've also been wanting to get into buying large cents, but they have been so hot I'm not pulling the trigger very often. A few come in my B&M now and then raw that are pleasing and that's when I buy. Same with bust halfs. On fire for quality and seem to be on everyone's radar. It seems better to not chase what everyone is looking at. The fliers seem to have softened a few hundred in 64 from a few years ago. That's the grade I target in those so I'm not versed in other grades prices. Big jump in 65 and lower grades don't show the detail well or have spots, etc.

Can't wait to see the 1799.

VERY nice. Almost makes me rethink my newer "no LITTLE coins" rule.

He seems to specialize in the smaller coins.

I'm not in with the crowd on this one. I thought it was a 63ish coin as the field luster was not booming....the peripheral luster is stronger than the interior obv fields. I prefer them equal. Great strike though on orig surfaces....on one of my favorite designs. I rank luster and field abrasions ahead of strike.

    Lovely piece Lance! Good going!

While I am sad that the FE design didn't extend beyond 1858, I do think that the Indian Head design is very pretty too. Actually, I bought a couple IHC at the Sunnyvale show on Friday and showed them to my significant other. That was the first time she had seen IHC, and she QUITE liked the design.

    Did you go to Sunnyvale?

My favorite series. I would have guessed 64. Nice looking coin.
