Closing up shop (sort of)

I had an E-Bay store trial priced @ $4.99/mo (as I recall) for about the last 3 months. I just got the E-Mail indicating it was going to be charged at $15.95 each month (annually) with a penalty for ending the year early. I swear, since opening this store my E-Bay sales have been at the lowest levels I've ever experienced while at the same time I've been selling off some of the nicest widgets I own.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who responded to this promotion a few months ago. Just wanted to point this out assuming others may have responded to the same promotion. If so, you may want to think this through also.

I can't justify spending an additional $16.00 each month for a few extra free listings I don't use anyway.
If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

    Wow... huge price jump.... one must have volume sales to offset the cost. Cheers, RickO

    The eBay store final value fees are also 6% instead of 10% for non store sales. It doesn't take long to cover the extra store cost if you sell regularly.

    Yes and that's a big difference that makes the store worthwhile.

    eBay offers a discount on a yearly subscription, but I keep hoping I'm going to stop selling on eBay so I stay at the monthly cycle.

    With 30 day returns coming up, I really want to be done by then. But I rarely get returns so it probably won't be an issue.

    I would much rather have quality over quantity, but to each their own.

    There is no site even close to eBay for selling most coins. I called Heritage one day to sell my PCGS MS67 CAC CC dollar. They wanted 10% to sell it, 18% from the buyer, and I think my firstborn. NO THANKS!

    Try GreatCollections. No seller's fee (over $1000) and only 10% buyer's premium.

    As a buyer I've had great experiences with Great Collections and have since continued to watch the inventory regularly.

    Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

    If you can't justify the $15.95 in the 4% savings each month then you probably don't need a store.

    How true...Simple math calculation will tell you what you need to average in justifying the store cost...Competitive pricing of your "widgets" also requires some research on your part.

    Math Class:

    Final value fee savings = 10% - 6% = 4%

    What is the break even point for a store?

    4% * X = 15.95

    X = 15.95 / .04

    X = $398.75 sales

    However, Store = 200 free listings, versus non store = 50

    200 - 50 = 150

    Non Store listing price = .30

    How many listings, above 50 free, would it take to equal a store savings?

    X = 15.95 / .30

    X = 54 listings (over the base of 50)

    So, if you sell more that $400 a month, or listing more than 104 per month, the store becomes a cost advantage, assuming no other tangible or intangibles items.

    That is why under one ebay ID, I list expensive, high quality, items I am really concerned about my rating, type listings, and run about 200 a month, and another id where I list, basically, garage sale, clean out the house stuff, cheap, not so good stuff, and run about 40 or so a month. If any of those sell, pure gravy.

    In addition, once you've obtained the "top rated" seller status, you will also receive a 20% discount on the FVF

    I did the same offer and it is working out great for me.

    More sales and lower fees is all good.

    The worse it gets the easier it is. My sales are 5 figures. My buys are over 6.

    I think my 19.95 mo for eBay store is great deal. I do pay as u go on this stuff not get buried in annual subscription. It is a good platform for retail plus super deal vs expensive costs of shows. The coin market has been slow for sometime reflecting the depressed economic conditions working people are facing. There is a headline in today's paper Houston based Anadarko will slash 17 pct of its employees of 3800 in the woodlands.

    Also tax wise the fees are a deductible expense.

    Thank heavens they have no operating costs, have their catalogs printed and mailed for free, maintain a staff to oversee operations, and have a customer base that is not afraid to step up and pay for quality coins unlike ebay that has tens of thousands of bottom feeders, chiselers, and SNAD return artists who'll make their claim after they can't sell the item in the 30 day period, but god forbid if Heritage can squeeze a few percentage points in profit.

    More power to them. I am not taking a 28% haircut on my coins. eBay is just fine.

    Also, how do you know their profit was a "few percentage points"? Please share the source you found that from.
