Hi all,
For some strange reason private messages are not getting through to me for the last several days. I've searched the profile & dashboard settings & see no reason for this. If anyone can help solve this I would appreciate it.

Hey guys, forgot to sign up for the thread. Got a case and a blaster case. The hobby case made it last Wednesday. Plowing my way through it. So far the hits are as follows:
So far I've gotten 7 chromes, 4 refractors, 1 black refractor, my purple chromes, and 4 gum stained.
Actions of: Correa, Billy Hamilton, Arrieta, Stanton
Color Swap: Harper
Rookie Image Swap: Schwarber and Piscotty
I've opened 7 hobby boxes, 1 blaster, and 2 rack packs. The non-hobby stuff came from Wal-Mart as did the Trout disc.
Good to see and talk to you guys again.
Question - how rare are the glossy backs? I've seen 10 made per card on ebay. Looking for all variations of #317 Colby Lewis.
Why do the kids at Topps think all cards made in the 60's were poor quality photos? The 1967 set has better photography and printing quality than the set made 2016. The 67 set reproduction should have been much better. (annual complaint I guess, I wish there were collectors in charge at Topps)
There must be no one there anymore that truly appreciates the history. Just a business...
Anyway bought a couple Wal-Mart blasters and 35 card box (not sure what they are called).
Nothing crazy, Aaron Nola blue auto, couple of discs, couple chrome.
One blaster was a purple chrome "hot" box. Last card was a purple chrome in each pack
Hi-Trying to get back into action again. Picked up 4 hobby boxes. Very good breaks for all 4 attached is my want and trade list. All is on the table...and Jim, I must've gotten the alternate purple box. It doesn't look like I have any from your list.

Finally found some Heritage in my area. Bought 3 hanger boxes at WalMart. My biggest hit was a Mookie Betts refractor, which was pretty cool because I'm a sox fan. I'd love to do some trading. Here is my current want list:
Still waiting on my blaster case. According to FedEx, it's been sitting on a truck in Phoenix, about 20 miles from my home, since Friday evening. I didn't know blasters had purple chromes, so maybe I'll get lucky.
images from boxes11-12 of my case, there were also 2 gum cards. I had the usual 8 SP & normal run of insert cards in each box. These last 2 were definitely the best.

Did anyone else notice the last 1 or 2 cards of each pack of almost every box that wasn't a purple hot box had a glossy front and of better quality than the rest? When I get a chance, I'll try to get some images posted. Scans don't always go well for me, and I'm not certain how well the scans will represent the differences. There is a distinguishable difference in hand though.
I apologize if someone has already asked this question, I might have just missed it in the thread, but do all cards in the Heritage set have:
1) a gum stain version 2) red back version 3) Wood grain/glossy version 4) Blank back version
or are each of this variations/special prints limited to a subset of cards?
I've seen the checklist for the mini cards #'d to 100, which surprised me as being different from the chrome checklist. I'll keep watching the Cardboard collection site for errors and variations updates.
only one card has blank back.....45 hanley ramirez...in homage to 1967 #45 roger maris that had a proof version that got out into the hobby in high quantities (~100)...proofs have blank backs.

Makes sense. As a set collector I'm always looking for completeness and the logic behind some of these unique cards or variations. Sometimes there isn't any. Obviously Topps chooses when and how it wants to pay homage to old sets, but not in a consistent way. Everyone says it each year, but a true tribute to 1967 would have been a 609 card set. I will say, I like the color variations on the World Series cards.
1 Blaster left and I'll start sorting. I'm looking to build 1-500 plus inserts and Kershaw. Most autos, relics, chromes and parallels will be available for trade.
52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.

Dan, The hanger boxes are the 35 card pack in cellophane, right ? Did they yield anything?
I bought one and it's seems like they don't have anything good in them, unless I missed some variation.
I think I'm staying away from them. For me, the eight pack blaster seems like the way to go in retail. I would be interested if you guys in the retail market are finding better stuff in the other options.
Originally posted by: vintagefun Holy Crap! I'm halfway thru my first Blaster after 5 Hobby boxes, and I hit a 10 card pack, with these cards back-to-back.
Never seen that before but no complaints here. 1 retail blaster yielded more autos than 5 Hobby boxes.

Yes, I noticed that too. The top cards are almost always more grainy/washed out
Mick, blasters are definitely the way to go in retail. Unfortunately, the store I went to only had hanger boxes and rack packs. I chose the boxes because of pack searchers. But when they get blasters in, that's what I'll do. Definitely the better investment.
With that being said, the refractor Mookie was a nice hit since he's one of my favorite players on my favorite team. It's not as great as hitting an autograph, but I was still pleased.
I think I got a Prince Fielder refractor in the box I bought. I would rather open packs. I'm not even a fan of the double "jumbo packs". Not sure what's the allure of those hanger boxes.

Based on the 6 boxes I've opened and what is up on Ebay, looks like the Throwbacks must be the most scarce, followed by error cards. I've pulled several more action variations than color variations, but I am seeing them as Walt predicted at about one per box. On box #6 pulled 2 action variations and a blank back Ramirez. Seem to average about one gum stain per box also. I have no idea on the ratios for glossy backs or red backs. Think some of these cards are found more in retail than hobby?
Blaster case and one Walmart 35 card box yielded: 1 base set plus a base set minus three cards; 3 refractors, 5 chrome, and 8 purple; 2 Clubhouse Collection; 1 mini; 1 disc (Schwarber); 10 BBFB's + 2 duplicates; 15 NAP + 2 duplicates; 9 NFB + 2 duplicates; 10 TAN + 4 duplicates; 40 sp's + 2 duplicates; several hundred triplicates.

1) a gum stain version
2) red back version
3) Wood grain/glossy version
4) Blank back version
or are each of this variations/special prints limited to a subset of cards?
I've seen the checklist for the mini cards #'d to 100, which surprised me as being different from the chrome checklist. I'll keep watching the Cardboard collection site for errors and variations updates.
thanks in advance for any help on this

Makes sense. As a set collector I'm always looking for completeness and the logic behind some of these unique cards or variations. Sometimes there isn't any. Obviously Topps chooses when and how it wants to pay homage to old sets, but not in a consistent way. Everyone says it each year, but a true tribute to 1967 would have been a 609 card set. I will say, I like the color variations on the World Series cards.

1 Blaster left and I'll start sorting. I'm looking to build 1-500 plus inserts and Kershaw. Most autos, relics, chromes and parallels will be available for trade.
Finally found some Heritage in my area. Bought 3 hanger boxes at WalMart. My biggest hit was a Mookie Betts refractor, which was pretty cool because I'm a sox fan. I'd love to do some trading. Here is my current want list:
Base: 74, 96, 192, 239, 333, 402, 409, 414

Dan, The hanger boxes are the 35 card pack in cellophane, right ? Did they yield anything?
I bought one and it's seems like they don't have anything good in them, unless I missed some variation.
I think I'm staying away from them. For me, the eight pack blaster seems like the way to go in retail. I would be interested if you guys in the retail market are finding better stuff in the other options.
Holy Crap! I'm halfway thru my first Blaster after 5 Hobby boxes, and I hit a 10 card pack, with these cards back-to-back.
Never seen that before but no complaints here. 1 retail blaster yielded more autos than 5 Hobby boxes.
Go figure.
Great box Jim !

Did I leave anything out?
Did anyone else notice the last 1 or 2 cards of each pack of almost every box that wasn't a purple hot box had a glossy front and of better quality than the rest? When I get a chance, I'll try to get some images posted. Scans don't always go well for me, and I'm not certain how well the scans will represent the differences. There is a distinguishable difference in hand though.
Yes, I noticed that too. The top cards are almost always more grainy/washed out

With that being said, the refractor Mookie was a nice hit since he's one of my favorite players on my favorite team. It's not as great as hitting an autograph, but I was still pleased.
