Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
Overrated as a better date, but the vast majority of them are dark, low to mid grade pieces.
This is a primo exception.

Nice large cent Bill. I've been looking a lot of years for an 1821 that I could be happy with. One of the few large cents I'm still missing.

the S-291 small date, toughest of the 1812's to find in higher grades:
Tough Doily type coin, happy to bring it home.
-----------------------------------------------
May I ask what the premium is for a NICE coin like this in a Doily holder as compared to a similiar coin in a "plain" holder?
Here are a few I took home. I sprang for a dozen or so. Went over my budget a little.
Lance.
I don't know if the other 1864 in the census is a "L" or no "L" like this one - roughly $200 premium, reasonable for a hard to find Doily type coin.
cheers,
'dude

Varieties Are The Spice Of LIFE and Thanks to Those who teach us what to search For.
First year of issue seated dollar, PCGS 30
1878 VAM 224 Morgan dollar, PCGS 63. 168 reeds on the collar, and the only die pair that used this collar.
1882-O/S VAM 5 Morgan dollar, PCGS 62.
1885 VAM 9E Morgan dollar, PCGS 66. Gorgeous coin, lush luster. You can’t see it in the pictures, but the obverse die has a bunch of “water spots” or craters on it that I can only explain as being hubbed through moisture.
1882-CC VAM 3 Morgan dollar, PCGS 64+PL. Missed being graded 65PL probably because of the strike over the ear or the planchet flaw in the upper left obverse field.
