    Maybe.
There are a lot of marks on the obverse.
We know it is not going to grade MS, so it can only stay the same or go down.

I've submitted old small ANACS holdered coins to PCGS and some go up (rarely) but it's about a 50/50 chance they go down a grade for me.image

I don't think so. I see rub on the high parts of the cheek, ensuring an AU grade, but too many hits to warrant a 58. I see a 55.

I think it's low AU. Looks a bit cleaned and retoned from those pics, but that's just my eye.

To me, an AU58 looks like a MS63/64 coin with just a wisp of wear on the highpoints.

It shouldn't as it appears to have been cleaned and then picked up some retoning around the rim.

I see the coin as a technical 55, but one that would be netted to 50/53 at PCGS because of the cleaning.

If the coin was blast white, might go 55.

You know they like the white look on these.

I can't see this in an PCGS AU58 holder...it might come back cleaned if you crack so send it for a cross, with no risk.

Leave that one alone, crack it out and it'll come back in a body bag.

from the photos, it looks more 53-ish, probably dipped and retoned. On a bad day it might come back 'no grade.' I think it looks happy in its old white holder.

If you check minimum 53, you might even get a 55. No way on 58.

That one is not likely to cross at grade.

Enough meat on that bone to go MS 60 +, if image only it hadn't been dipped with a slight rub, long ago…. and far away.

Still, a lot of coin there.

Too scruffy. AU 53 me thinks.

What's going on with the 7 in the date? Recut?

    For what it's worth....

I have an 1896-O Morgan that doesn't look as close to MS as your Barber. But I bought it as an XF, and sent it ANACS with some confidence it would make 50. (There is a price jump, and I was proud to "score").

Anyway, it came back as 58!!

I think ANACS was a little loose, at the time anyway, in the AU range. I have a few other stray AU-58's in ANACS holders that I doubt would cross at that grade.

Looks like a PCGS 55 to me. Good luck.

It looks too baggy and was cleaned just a little too much. It's an attractive coin for what it is. Keep us posted if you submit!

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Despite the respect I have for the small, white classic ANACS holders, I also think it should not be graded as an original/non-cleaned coin based on the bright white, scratchy centers. Then again, photos can be deceiving, and what "should" happen does not always come to pass.

How many people would grade this one AU50 and give it a pass as a non-cleaned coin? PCGS did- and it's an older, solid blue holder. Maybe it was not one of their finer moments, or maybe it's just a lousy pic?
