For my first purchase of 2016, I picked up some eggs, bread and milk at the store.

As far as coins, I haven't bought one today (yet).

customer brought in 50 oz bar, 10 oz bar and some jewelry. Considering its a holiday, I thought it was a good start for the new year.

This brings back memories of the crazy Elagabalus thread on the World forum. He is the only Roman emperor I remember other than the biggies because of that crazy thread.

Went to the B&M today, picked up 6 lincoln memorial cents for the YN, now he only has 2 holes in the 1959-98 book. Got me a 1906 Barber quarter in AG/G for my "set which doesn't even live in an album" - it only has 3 coins in it so far, but I like having the coins just loose.

I was wandering around a flea market today. I wasn't really planning to buy anything but I found something

that I thought was nice enough to take home. I rim rainbow toned 1923 Peace Dollar, not my normal buy!

The next time I drag the camera equipment out, I might photograph it...if I don't sell it at FUN that is.

Bought a 2012 U.S. Proof Set, a 2014 Proof set, and a Young Collectors Baseball HOF clad half. (the curved coin) in one transaction. Then a 1994 Gold American Eagle for under $1100. Seller said he bought it when gold was $250. Smart feller, there. image

    Stash-

Take a closer look at the reverse of your 1971-s proof- Is there something a little different with the breast feathers and wings? The cameo seems to blur the detail... And I can not tell based on what I see on my screen.

As for the question, I found 2 medals today- the larger Edison Whitehead & Hoag 1879-1929 light award in bronze- not sure it was ever issued in silver-

    The 1909 Hudson River bronze 66mm -

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

I guess my first purchase of 2016 would be an 1880-O $1 in Ch AU. Whoopee!!

1942 D Quarter that I do not have a photo of yet.

    It is a PCGS65

I got two shiny red, well struck 2015D lincolns in change, so I suppose that was my first numis purchase in 2016. Quite a reasonable price at 1 cent each.

My first actual purchase will be in one week, when the Twain commems go on sale...

My picture does not do it justice, but my first buy for 2016 was this 1788 Massachusetts Cent. The coin is a PCGS AU-58, and it is wonderful. I like it better than some of the Mint State pieces. I saw this piece at the Baltimore show in November, and luckily the dealer still had it. The piece has virtually full mint luster under even brown surfaces.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.
