I find that I have developed a first, second and third collections with funding going in order.

Do you have multiple distinct collections?

Large cents > pre-1850 U.S. medals > rare numismatic literature. I am also beginning to develop an interest in error coins.

Besides Walkers; I'd like to buy some standing quarters, some seated coinage and maybe some GSA Morgans in the future.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I am currently looking for 20th Century German Empire silver, from 1/2 Mark to 5 Mark; plus US Type coins and British Sovereigns and Maundy sets.

My main collection is pre-1964 half dollars.

Recently I started a collection of PCGS-slabbed MS65+ Jefferson nickels -- an affordable diversion.

And circulated Mercury dimes -- cheap fun at coin shows.

My 'collecton' contains several 'sets' - both of recognized series and of series I have

comprised relating to personal experience or interests. It would seem normal to have

multiple areas of focus in numismatics. Cheers, RickO

Barber Dimes, Seated Dollars, Bust Halves GB Three Pence 1726-1943 will go earlier when I find them. Oddly enough Ive also Picked up quite a few better Lincoln and Merc Dimes without even really wanting to collect them. They just called to me.

I have so many collections it's hard to keep count of them. The type set has been my main interest, but that is done. Beyond that Twenty Cent Pieces (done), Type I Gold Dollars (done), Type II Gold Dollars (done), 19th century presidential campaign tokens, medelets and medals (never ending), Cometia Americana medals (done as far I can take them), a coin from each king or queen of England (ongoing), presidential inaugural medals ending with Reagan (don't have Harding and Coolidge and they are tough as nails) and selected Civil War and Hard Times tokens ... just to name a few.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The problem comes when one of the collections is "everything else."
  • BoosibriBoosibri Posts: 12,530 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think you should purge all Charlotte Half Eagles John. Might help to solve your problem.

I am a "Box of 20" guy thanks to a revelation from Lord Marcovan and his "Eclectic Box of 20". My set has some focus in the area of No Motto gold as well as Capped Bust and Seated Liberty halves. However, I do not care to have a complete set of any of them. So I am free to buy any coin that speaks to me without violating the goal of filling a hole with each purchase. Recent buys have included a Spanish 8 reale and German Third Reich era coin. These made me happy!
