I like them all too, and I'm not much of a small coin guy, but that Merc dime is awesome!

I like the dime the most for the coin, but with a gold CAC sticker on it, the price would be to moon and back.

I have only bought one coin with a gold CAC sticker, that one was a mistake given the price paid. The coin was not that outstanding, and PCGS got the grade right. It was not under graded.

This is one of the early (perhaps the first type of) Bechtler gold dollars that was issued in the early 1830s. PCGS graded the piece EF-40. On the surface it looks better than that, but a more careful examination reveals that's been brushed with parallel hairlines on the surfaces. It is market acceptable, but PCGS got it right by net grading it from AU to EF. It deserved a green sticker in my opinion but not a gold one. The dealer charged me an AU price for this, and I'll admit to missing the hairlines. It's one of the grading areas of which I have become more more aware.

They're all nice, but I'm a sucker for $3 pieces.
  • stevebensteveben Posts: 4,634 ✭✭✭✭✭
the details on that piece are AU for sure. i see the hairlines...but there is luster too. i can see it net graded EF45.

That does not increase the price by a factor of 5. Hence I paid too much.
