Potential bidder asks why I blocked him. So I looked up the reason, and then just smiled...

I received an email today from someone asking why he was blocked. I get the occasionally, and I usually don't respond, though I do often look up the reason to at least double-check myself. This one? Gold.

Email received today:
"You have a XXXXX you are not letting me bid on (for eBay I am XXXX). I guess I’m curious why. My max bid was going to be XXXX. If you do better than this, good for you. If you don”t....................."

What email did he send me in February which led me to block him in the first place?
"Nice looking coin; before I bid, I check my "do not buy from" list and you're on it. If you want off, contact me."

I never did find out why he blocked me, and as it happens, it seems like he'll never figure out why I blocked him. Although we know which one of us doesn't keep his word...

I just tell them that one of the members of my 10,000 dealer network had a bad experience with him and passed it on to the other 9,999. Hopefully it causes him to reflect on how he treats those he deals with.

    I'd answer him:

I processed your request to be blocked back in February. Unfortunately, once a buyer requests to be blocked from bidding I take them at their word and cannot remove them from the list.

Shouldn't this be filed under "Why coin dealers drink"?

Interesting. A blocked bidder can not communicate via the eBay message system to whomever blocked him. Did he have your email address? If so, why did you supply that to him.

I've gotten messages from blocked bidders wanting to know why they are blocked.

Not through the eBay message system associated with the blocked individual's account. At least not in the last several years, but perhaps via some one else account?

I think a blocked bidder can still communicate thru the e-bay system

I'd file it under "Evidence that eBay bidders drink."

He used a business email address which is pretty easy to get if you search for me. I get emails sent that way every so often.

I was thinking that, but when I write those threads, I'm usually frustrated at least a bit at first. This one just had me grinning.

As for bidders having the email. If he was a winner at anytime and used PayPal guess what both have each others email addresses. Most blocks happen after a transaction went south.

And eBay didn't always hide addresses either.
