<< <i>i don't know who these guys are, but they were tracking prices on him back and 2011-2012 and link through to some current items as well they say $129 is the top EVER NOTTEBART PRICING
<< <i>Too bad the ball doesn't say "No Hitter" anywhere. >>
OK, I guess that makes a difference. LOL! >>
Please stop screaming.
Yes, it should make a difference.
This ball only says "May 17, 1963"
Now if it said "May 18, 1963" it'd be worth a lot more because that's my MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY!
<< <i>As far as Nottebart specifically, there aren't any examples on eBay of the same ball with the same inscription selling, at least not in the past period of time you can search. >>
Doesn't that speak to the rarity of the item?
"Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood."
<< <i>Both the seller and potential buyer reacted unprofessionally. >>
How did I act "unprofessionally"? I gave the guy what I thought was a fair offer (turns out maybe I was right), he fired back profanity at me multiple times.
I didn't respond to him with any all caps messages, he sent those to me. Get your facts straight. I may have used all caps for a word or two here in the thread, but that's it.
I guess it's my fault for pointing it out in the first place, but it honestly never occurred to me that others would start sending him offers like that. All that was happening at the same time I sent him my last reply, which was to consider the auto-decline option. Obviously the timing made it seem I was organizing all those offers but that's just simply not true. I didn't ask anyone to do it, and I didn't encourage them to do it either.
Now you're saying I'm being "overly defensive", but all I'm doing is pointing out that what you're saying about me isn't accurate.
Again, you called me out as a low baller and specifically asked for "proof" - all I've done is answer your questions.
<< <i>I'm sorry, I'm a little lost here. Is the debate about how this seller reacted to an offer? or has the thread been hijacked and the debate is if the OP's offer is a low ball offer?
If it is about how the seller has reacted, I don't see how anybody on this board can truthfully defend him?
If it is about low balling offers, how can you ignore the fact that many a transactions start with a seller starting with a high BIN, a seller submitting a low offer, and after some negotiations, both the seller & buyer are happy campers! >>
Both the seller and potential buyer reacted unprofessionally. Some posted how the seller may even be unstable and having to take meds because his behavior is off the charts wild. Nevertheless, many fueled the fire and submitted low offers to the seller in an equally and unprofessionally wrong manner.
If this poor guy is sick then why would we make fun of him? Why would we exploit his illness for public conversation and laughs?
Why is it when the tables turn and people question the OPs acts he gets overly defensive? He used all capital letters. That's yelling. He followed that with exclamation marks. That's screaming. Why scream at me? >>
OK, that I can understand. And that being your beef, I think that is what you should have said in the first place. Debating what the ball is worth really has nothing to do with the fact that you believe we should not have made fun of somebody for being sick. I think he is a jerk, not sick, but that's just my opinion with little to go on.

You are a low-baller. Refer to post number 1 in the thread for evidence.
It's the responsibility of the seller AND customer in business to act professionally. I won't speak for the seller, but based on what you've said in this thread, I'll say again, that you too acted unprofessionally...in more way than one.

So if you make an offer that's significantly below the asking price you're "a low baller". Is there a name for sellers who list items at ridiculously high prices?
I'm not sure you can tell the difference between screaming and just emphasis or "highlight". I'll explain.
I all capped the link so people would see it was different.

He gets it, but would rather pretend he doesn't and play his "devil's advocate" games. I was hoping he had grown up a bit in his time away, and being a father now, but this thread sunk any such hope. Don't sweat him/it.
This is really about how the seller reacted. Had he not responded to your offer, simply declined it, or responded in a civil manner this thread would have never existed. No excuse for their behavior and it was against eBay rules.
Good luck tracking down the Nottebart ball for your collection.

I get that the seller shouldn't have used that language, but because the OP had his feeling hurt doesn't mean he should make a thread about it, ridiculing the seller. Then the many childish low ball offers people made is just sickening IMO.

<< <i>but based on what you've said in this thread, I'll say again, that you too acted unprofessionally...in more way than one. >>
How? Because I thought my offer might be too low? Because there's some unwritten rule that says you shouldn't offer less than some certain % of the BIN price that's definitely over @ 15% but below some other %?
Sure, I had concerns my offer would not be accepted based on the Buy It Now, but once it went I figured worst case was I'd get a decline or best case a counter. Unfortunately neither of those happened. I got called names and cussed out. I said put a reasonable price on it, got called more names with more profanity.
I posted here to show what happened to me, as a real life example related to previous threads on the BIN and offer "protocols" that have appeared here on the forum in the past. I didn't ask or encourage anyone to do anything else, there aren't any secret PMs or something like that where I organized anything. I simply posted my experience, and let people comment or not. In fact the early responses to the thread were as expected - people were surprised it got so out of hand over such an obscure item.
You jumped in and said that I'm a lowballer and then say I'm defensive because I disagree with you. If the ball is worth $50 or so, it's not low ball at all, it's actually pretty good. But those are just listings, they aren't sales so maybe it's not compelling to you. Fine.
Then again, did you ever even consider that maybe the lack of previous sales might be an indication of an extreme lack of demand, not just lack of supply? I guess it's not possible that maybe that ball is actually only worth $20 and my offer was for double what it was worth?
If you think I'm a lowballer, that's fine. But you're wrong.
<< <i>but because the OP had his feeling hurt doesn't mean he should make a thread about it, ridiculing the seller. >>
My feelings aren't hurt, dude. I would have liked to have that baseball, same as I'd have liked to have had 50 other things I bid or offered on this month and didn't get. That's how collecting goes, you win some and lose some. It's part of what makes it fun.
I didn't make the thread to ridicule him, that's not accurate at all. Please stop putting "words in my mouth", so to speak. You're just making it up for effect, and you're wrong.
If you think that's what I did, you have a comprehension problem.

You acted unprofessionally when you came to a public message board and outed the seller in the fashion you did. Sure, plenty will say you did a service by making people aware of his language, but if that's the case then maybe we all should start keeping track of every time a seller hurts our feeling, then come and start a thread about it. Post your experience, out him to those who want to know (or even care) via PM.
Your nonprofessional attitude provoked random people to throw similar lowball offers his way simply for laughs. This would have been avoided had you kept his personal information private.
And you never asked people to not throw him lowball offers.
Right - so now it's my responsibility to tell everyone else to not do things I wouldn't approve of?
Fine, here you go.
Everyone who is now or may be a member of these forums in the future, can you please not do or say or type things that I think would be silly, childish or would not condone?
If you do, I may have to take appropriate action, including inaction, in response.

Mullins, why do you have such a vested interest in defending this seller and/or attacking bounce? The reason for this thread was not the seller's refusal to consider bounce's offer, it was the incredibly rude and ridiculous response he received from somneone who had absolutely zero justification for responding that way. Are you defending that kind of response? If so, you are 100% wrong.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
It is a good thing that people sent a bunch of offers to that seller, because if he kept responding with vulgarity and insults, it increases the chance that ebay will respond to multiple complaints and suspend or ban him.
I agree with Grote. The original point of the thread was to make collectors aware of a rude and discourteous eBay seller who verbally abuses buyers with profanity. It has since derailed.

Buyer submits an offer so much below seller's asking price, it seems to me to be a waste of sellers time, if not an outright insult.
Seller turns out to be a total jerk by not simply declining the offer and replying with a horrible response(s).
While buyer has a point that the player was not a star, he obviously "chases" his items and admits this one is hard to find, so I see his rationalization of a ridiculous offer self defeating. The other similar ball listed was $100.00, so even if $225.00 was much higher, $32.00 plus shipping is not going to start a meaningful negotiation for an item "I'd love to add to my collection".
As a seller/buyer I try to understand pricing and "rare" items CAN go for a lot of money, so why not start out high and see what happens?
THIS seller is obviously too over the top in his response to a low-ball offer and should be banned from ebay for his obscenity laced messages.

Good - I don't really like you either. So what?
Why should I offer more than it's worth? Just because "i'd love to have it"? For the record, I have often overpaid on things when I knew it was rare or just really wanted it. I don't do it every time and I see absolutely no reason to do it here, this isn't a high end item or highly desired item. In 7 pages of posts, we haven't even found another single person who was like "oh yeah, i'd really like to have that!".
It was so much more "drama" when people thought the thing might actually be worth $200. Now you know better, but you just can't stop yourselves. Seriously, you guys are just being ridiculous now.

Here you go again, man. You want to have your opinion, fine, but now you've crossed the line.
You're slandering me by suggesting I submitted a false bid and that I am some sort of "ring leader". Neither of those things are true.
1) I sent him a legitimate offer for the ball of $40 DLVD. I would have bought it for that, I might have even bought it for more, who knows? I never got the chance, but I definitely wouldn't now. 2) I didn't "ring lead" anything. I didn't ask anyone to do anything for me, I didn't suggest anyone else should make an offer, I didn't encourage anyone else to make offers once it became clear they were doing it and I sure didn't ask anyone else to reach out to the seller. Anyone who did any of those things did them on their own, without contacting me or asking what I thought or whatever other conspiracy theory you want to float. There aren't any secret PMs or some other set of messages where I was trying to escalate the situation. I left it as it was, despite multiple more messages from the seller that I didn't share here because it didn't add anything to it.
Again, you're just making it up as you go with no facts. Time to knock it off.
Your false accusation effectively violates these two rules of the forum as I understand them. Rule 3) Anyone attacking another poster or making disparaging personal remarks will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings. Rule 4) Anyone making libelous remarks concerning any individual, any company, or any other entity will no longer be allowed to post. No more warnings.
<< <i>I contacted the seller and he said that he is sorry that he used the language that he did (just a lot going on in his personal life). >>
I have information that the seller is gathering personal information of at least some of the bidders of his items and following up with threatening email as late as 8:05 PM CST. I find it difficult to believe in the short period of time after that, the seller did a 180 and expressed remorse to MULLINS5. For the seller's sake, I hope I'm wrong and that person is regretful about his/her reactions to what amounts to legitimate bids on items that were listed poorly.
I would highly advise anyone who is contacted by the seller to keep record of any interaction and report it to Ebay at a minimum and your local police if you feel it necessary. Can't be too careful when it comes to stressed out people who have already shown a tendency to make very bad decisions.

With all due respect, you're actually the one in violation of forum rules. You made a post, not about sports cards and memorabilia, but rather about a seller who said some things to you that hurt your feelings. While I don't agree that the seller used the right behavior, you were in the wrong for lowballing him IMO <-- That means "In My Opinion"
You've also made personal remarks to me in this thread (suggesting that I have a reading comprehension issue). I have made none of you.
Ebay has a "reject offers below this price" option so that situations just like this can be avoided. The seller opted not to use that feature. Setting up items without it effectively welcomes offers of all amounts.
As far as Ebay goes, there never needs to be a "lowball bidders are scum" conversation ever again. Sellers are empowered to disallow their own perceived lowball bids. Time to hold the sellers accountable for situations like this.
I'm done reading this. OP you did nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned. Thank You for sharing your experience so I can avoid the seller. Also, you could have bid 99 cents and you wouldn't have deserved the response you got. Why anyone on this forum has felt the need to attack you is beyond me. My only guess is the individual I am talking about is related to the seller in question or maybe is the seller in question. Good night and good luck.
<< <i>I contacted the seller and he said that he is sorry that he used the language that he did (just a lot going on in his personal life).
I invited him to come here and voice his opinion, but he believes that it will just escalate things, so he's staying out of it (but watching).
One of the reasons for the price is that the ball apparently has some sentimental value attached as well.
He contacted eBay and eBay asked for screen shots of the forum, which he provided.

This is incredible , and does anyone suspect that Mullins might be the seller in question? A poster on this board posts facts about a rude seller who is rude and profane, and Mullins out of the goodness of his heart is (a) reaching out to the rude seller (b) giving the rude seller feedback from the board (c) found out the reason for the price is due to sentimental reasons...
On top of that he makes sure to post a list of people who placed "false bids" on the rude sellers items. The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

I think the ball is worth a lot more than what you offered. A lot. >>

To anyone who is even remotely trying to equate Bounce's offer with the subsequent actions of the seller, it's time to check yourself. The moment he was spoken to as if he should be commingling with yesterday's garbage, nothing else mattered. A solid gold nugget inside that ball wouldn't justify that type of behavior.
If your psyche is so fragile that you become unhinged over an eBay offer, conventional wisdom says you best have that auto-decline locked and loaded to save yourself. Otherwise, anything that happens from that point forward -- perceived or real -- is on you.
Based on the writing style of MULLINS5 and the writing "style" of the person quoted by the OP, there is no conceivable way that MULLINS5 is the seller in question.
I suppose it's possible he could know the guy.

<< <i>
<< <i>I'm sorry, I'm a little lost here.
<< <i>Doesn't that speak to the rarity of the item? >>
Sure, but does rarity necessarily speak to value? There are lots of old and rare items that aren't worth very much.

Fine, here you go.

I posted what he gave me to post.
How is an offer a false bid?? I would have paid for my offer.
Shocked.
Disappointed.
As far as Ebay goes, there never needs to be a "lowball bidders are scum" conversation ever again. Sellers are empowered to disallow their own perceived lowball bids. Time to hold the sellers accountable for situations like this.
I can avoid the seller. Also, you could have bid 99 cents and you wouldn't have deserved the response you got.
Why anyone on this forum has felt the need to attack you is beyond me. My only guess is the individual I am talking about is related to
the seller in question or maybe is the seller in question.
Good night and good luck.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.

it's not why i started the thread - i did it to show the crazy reply i got
<< <i>I don't like either of these guys.
As a seller/buyer I try to understand pricing and "rare" items CAN go for a lot of money, so why not start out high and see what happens? >>
I think the ball is worth a lot more than what you offered. A lot. >>
Examples to ssupport this?
<< <i>I think the ball is worth a lot more than what you offered. A lot. >>
<< <i>One of the reasons for the price is that the ball apparently has some sentimental value attached as well >>
I think this helps to prove that the ball is NOT worth a lot more than what was offered
If your psyche is so fragile that you become unhinged over an eBay offer, conventional wisdom says you best have that auto-decline locked and loaded to save yourself. Otherwise, anything that happens from that point forward -- perceived or real -- is on you.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
I suppose it's possible he could know the guy.
