Newly imaged... and in the process of reviewing my PC30's I found I have two 1908-S Barber Quarters:

Here is the one I found not imaged:

    1908-S Barber Quarter PCGS VF30

    Here is my other one:

@erwindoc Jason, wow, sensational looking. No obtrusive distractions just a pleasant even gray toning. The only minor detraction might be the fingernail-like scratch just above the eagles head on the reverse for the '96-S.

I would call it an 8; nice pickup!

    I love them Barber Halves.....

The 96S is the plate coin used on coinfacts for G6.

The ultimate lowball! it wasn't me. Who out on the Registry doesn't have a lowball '01-S? I would start there.

All joking aside, my 13S is still at Great Collections. Should I have them send it to me or should I have them try and get it regraded? If regraded, by NGC or PCGS?

You think it is better in a PCGS, NGC, or CACG holder? You have what looks to be 2 letters and a partial? in Liberty. To get a VG10, more letters would have to show.

I wouldn't try to flip holders personally.

So you dont think it would go VG8 up from the current G6 holder it is in?

I read it wrong thinking you said it already was VG08. For VG08, if you think 3 letters show, it might be possible. I see 2 letters.

@Eldorado9 Eldo, those are some amazing Barber Half Dollars! I love how the color dances just enough on that '07-P. Actually, they all are very pleasant to enjoy from a viewers perspective! Thanks for sharing!

@sedulous Saw that 1894-o on GC...It really has the toning and appearance of a proof! Quite a special Barber...especially w the PL designation on the holder.

  • Eldorado9Eldorado9 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭✭✭

One of my favorite Halves of all-time, this 1897-o MS-67 CAC. The coin exhibits strong PL fields and somewhat cameo devices. It has a few scattered ticks, but makes up for that in being totally original.

This is the ex. Steve Duckor coin. It has graced other collections through the years including Norweb, and Eugene Gardner.

Speaking of quarters, here is my most recent Barber Quarter pick-up. A PCGS XF45 1900-P Barber Quarter with some edge toning. The interest was the end of the ribbon pronounced fill area on the reverse.

1912-S. I'm working on a MS date set. Like the flexibility - no 1896-S, 1901-S and 1913-S for me.

@Redglobe Rob, fantastic looking coins! you got some nice pick-ups there. The mid-circulated grades are getting tougher and tougher to find. It is one series that is drying up for sure. Great job! - Tim

This one seems to be rather scarce, and a bit crispy. Haven't seen too many in like grade:

    @7Jaguars
What is the backstory or how did you come across it?? Why is it not graded by 3rd Party grading being in that condition??

Nice coin per your pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Well got it from European auction. Hosts graded it at 55 which was a bit lower than I’d thought.

@7Jaguars your '97-S is a special coin to uncover from the EU! Will you be attending FUN in Orlando in January? Come see our Barber Coin Collector Society table - I will be there. I will have a macro camera set-up and can give you free detailed images. It is a special coin and it would be great if we could record it. We can give it a proper evaluation!

Speaking of 1897-S Half Dollars, I just received some additional background from Alex at Tipsico Coin about my '97-S Half... the one I obtained from Liz Coggan who got it from Alex just prior:

    "Tim –

I do remember the 1897-S Half, however I was not able to locate an archive description of the coin. I apparently also deleted, by accident most likely, any images. From my recollection, I purchased the coin at a Seattle area coin show. It would have in 2019; I submitted it to CAC in April of that year. Beyond that, all is lost to the mists of time. I am not sure whether it was already in a PCGS holder, or if I graded it, as I could not find a submission sheet that far back (Spring Cleaning in the past …). I really wish that PCGS would list the date that a coin was certified, or there was some other concrete way to ID the time factor from the cert #.

So I cannot offer you more that this I am afraid – nor do I know the original source of the coin, although I can logically assume it was off the West Coast somewhere. Hope this helps in some respect."

I (Tim G.) will bring my '97-S to FUN this year if anyone wants to see it at the BCCS table:

1897-S Barber Half PCGS AU58 CAC "the Tipsico Coin"

There are not that many in higher grade and we should have a complimentary census of those that are not 3rd party graded.

I hope to see you there as well Jeff M.! and perhaps your '97-S again... since the show is in your neck of the woods @JeffMTampa. I know your recent home projects have you busy.
