Bidask, let me explain what genius thinking is to me.
I was fortunate to grow up in a very stable Midwestern, middle class neighborhood. Though I didn't know him then, Capt Henway was only a few miles down the street!
Anyway, almost everyone seemed happy there in the early 60's. No one was wealthy it seemed, but all the men were employed and even with the wives staying home and raising the kids, the mortgage payments were covered, there was plenty of food to go around, and the clothes, which were sometimes hand-me-down, were always sufficient and of good quality.
Families worked hard, but the weekend was for throwing around a baseball and grilling some hot dogs and maybe hitting the lake for some perch and bass fishing as many (including us) owned a small boat.
...all that changed when my mom decided that we needed to move to the more affluent part of town.
More affluent it was. Lots of medical professionals and lawyers and business owners. No more hand me downs in this hood, only top name clothing. Vacations were to Miami Beach in the winter, instead of grandmas place up north. Some Chevys and Pontiacs occupied the circular drives, but mostly Lincolns and Caddys filled the need of self gratification.
Odd thing though was most of the fun was gone. Neighbors really did not know each other and most of the fathers worked long hours to pay the tariff, forgetting to spend much time with the kids.
Having hired help to take care of the household chores, the women seemed empty and tried to fill the days shopping and on the couches of the many available shrinks.
Few owned a boat as the "club" was the place to go on the weekend. Better place to make a business connection than on a lazy inland lake with the Catfish nibbling on half a worm.
Off subject I realize, and I am no genius, but I learned a lot from the experiences. A pile of money is a nice benefit of hard work and prudent investing, but a lousy life goal.
Goal is to enjoy life. Live where you would want to travel to. Keep yourself healthy as the sick man enjoys nothing. Be nice to other folks as a nice word can make their day and a negative word can ruin it.
Most important lesson is real education begins the day that you leave school. No longer constrained by a predigested curriculum, you are free to study any subject from finance to medicine to astrophysics without limitation. Too few take advantage of resources of the web and instead play video games and argue on coin forums!

Went to the Berkshire Hathaway Annual meeting this year & I don't give investment advice, other than to say "don't play what I play". People who come online to argue, fuss, and fight need to get back to Facebook and Twitter.

Selling at 1/3 the price of Walgreen on a price/sales basis. if they ever learn to make a profit on the super thin margin prescription business, price could double or triple.
On the other hand, long term prescription delivery is shifting from the pharmacy to providers like Humana. Get 90 days worth of pills mailed at a reduced or zero copay.
Revenue will sag across the category as that continues.
The people who picked facebook/twitter or some precious metals picks aren't doing well right now...halfway through still a long time to go, things could flip around. US equities have really thawed out after this horrible first quarter. We will see the Q2 GDP. Apple just split...wondering if I should take a bite...
My picks are speculative and moves (big moves) will be news-driven, news specific to the business, not moves of "the economy", "the weather", or "the markets" at large. talking parnterships, clinical or regulatory (FDA) news, earnings changes experienced or forcast, merger/acquisition stuff, legal drama, management shakups, breakthroughs, failures, etc. In hindsight, should have played the straddle/strangle for the contest instead of the bull long as both are having challenges. but ya never know, the year is still young..

Seriously though , for those of us that don't care about the Kardashians or making wise cracks about Lebron choking in game one of the NBA finals

Better than FB in my opinion, as investment though the whole category is overrated. How many advertisements can a consumer respond to? Selling ads is all that they have.
Bought 1000 shares of JAZZ in June of '09 ($4.50), then sold it right away and took a loss, because I bought shop in July of '09 and needed the extra 4 grand cash. Today 5 years later, JAZZ is at $139.

my best worst sob story is about buying BIIB from 1995-1997 (it was IDPH back then), selling half in 1999 and the rest in dribs and drabs for the next 10 years, finally closing out the position in 2010. Did okay, but sure wish I still had all those shares (would be worth > $10 million today)

Major moves indeed. If I counted right there were 16 that dropped 4 or more places and 15 that moved up 4 positions or more.

I told him to be careful as the order could fill at 3 or 4 times the IPO price. Explained that tech IPO's were extremely volatile.
He said "What do you mean tech? I thought it was the chocolate drink company"
