Tim, the sharpness of those 1971 corners is beyond amazing - front a back. Amazingly beautiful rack pack. Great pick-up. And, of course, 1978 is my personal favorite. I hope to locate a rack box/case myself someday soon.
Great stuff guys! I love the framed pack display...quite possibly the best piece of art I have ever seen. Also like the 1978 box sitting right below it. That 1980 wax rack box is sweet Tim...that is one you don't see everyday.
<< <i>Here is a photo of the new pack display frame I just picked up. I know I a not going to win any photography contests. Looks many times better in person.
It's going to have a run of OPC packs from 1966-1980 (less 1968 and 1969) later tonight. I was excited to get it up on the wall and didn't have 1966 and 1967 handy, so I had to cheat a little. This frame is deep enough to accommodate packs and probably even cellos. This was a wide as I could go and still have it matted up, which was important to me.

A few of those look familiar Very nice display, it turned out great.
Wowza...great run of 1960's nickel packs! Very impressive.
Thought I would offer one of my favorite unopened packs that is likely not very well known. As you can tell by my ID, I collect Gretzky. One of his lesser known 'rookie' cards is the 1977-1979 Sportscaster card which preceeded his 79OPC and 79Topps rookies. These cards are much more limited and were distributed as part of a massive multi-sport set that spanned over 100 series of cards containing 2184 cards in total. This set was available only through the mail. All of the series above #65 are considered very short printed as interest in this set began to dwindle after 1978. In the picture, you will see a nice Gretzky Sportscaster rookie card. Sitting right next to it is a sealed cello pack from the famed #77 series that contains an untouched Gretzky rookie that will be 10 cards into the pack.
I love the run of POPs cellos Bobby. One of the most underrated players out there. My personal favorite is the 1981 after he just crushed a shot to right center. Thanks for sharing the great photos!
I added a few boxes in the last week or so. The 1981 football box looks case fresh. I plan to start sending some of the boxes to BBCE for their seal of approval. James

Wow, I have not seen those cards in years! I remember having a few when I was a kid. My mom let me order them through the mail. Can't even remember how I first saw them. I think they sent one or two as a promo and I ordered another one or two lots before losing interest. I tossed them long ago; no telling if any famous players were on mine.
Great additions James!! You can never go wrong with 1981 and 1984 Topps Football wax.
I wanted to post a couple of photos of my recent 'bored over the weekend rip.' I know this box will not excite too many folks here since it is not from the 1960-1980's. That said, I had this laying around from years ago with the assumption that Arod would be breaking the HR record in the near future. Looks like this was a bad investment. With 20 packs per box and the 'Gold Rookies Set' inserted 1:12 packs, I figured I would bust away and see if the Rodriguez was in here. Bear in mind this is the only card in the set worth anything, so it is hit or miss (unless you have a soft spot for the other PED user Manny Ramirez). Like a fish to a shiny lure, I was drawn in for this rip.
Nice and shiny box, nice and shiny cards...by far the worst box results ever!! Not only is there no star power in the base set, but I defied the odds and landed only 1 Gold Rookie which happened to be the worst in the set No offense to any Bob Hamelin relatives reading this.
Even though this was a poor box...I have always said my worst day ripping packs still beats my best day at work!
Please keep the great photos coming (even the shiny box lovers out there) and share your recent rips too...they can't be worse than this one.
Actually, there are 1.67 Gold per box on average which would mean that 2 out of 3 boxes contain 2 gold. I just landed the 1 out of 3 boxes that didn't. So fair point that the odds were only slightly working against me on this one.

Great collection Smokie! Looks like you have been busy building high end sets of 1975 and 1981 . I love the organization...looks like a perfect shrine to the collecting God's. I also like the very under-rated 1989 Fleer Glossy sets you have stashed away. Thanks for sharing the great photos!
My favorite holiday is upon us as families gather and we give thanks for all our blessings. I am very thankful for my loving family and friends, my health and for the fun I get from this outstanding hobby. Therefore, I though heading into a long holiday weekend that it would be a good idea to pull out some boxes to break. I tried to cover the top three sports: Baseball, Football and Basketball. Here is the list I plan to crack into:
1984 Topps Baseball Vending Box
1985 Donruss Rack Packs (3)
1987 Donruss Blister Rack Packs (4)
1993 Fleer Basketball Box Series I (Looking for Jordan All-Star insert)
1991 Stadium Club Football Box
I will upload photos as I go. Please let us all know what you are thankful for and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Though I would start the day by breaking (4) 1987 Donruss Blister Rack Packs. These each contain 75 cards sealed within three plastic blisters. The packs can be a bit rough on the corners over time, but you can find the occasional 10 in these. Here are the results:
I love the outstanding rookie crop in the 1987 Donruss...so many stars from yesterday past. This is sooo much better than watching the parade my girls have on right now!
So I decided it would be fun to rip some football after watching my Detroit Lions shred the Pack...get it 'shred the Pack' while coincidentally searching for Favre rookies. Sorry, best I have after a turkey laced coma. Here were the results:
Though mildly overproduced, I still like the look of this first Stadium Club effort. Full bleed photos, simple gold foil and some really cool action shots.
Barry Sanders was my favorite player growing up, so I was happy to land two of him. I love the Emmitt photo in the 1991 Stadium Club. And of course no box would be complete without a 'Farve' rookie.
Thanks for letting me share my breaks. Let me know if you have a preference for my next weekend rip (84T Vending, 85D Racks or 93F Basketball Box)?

Nothing like waking up the day after Thanksgiving to the smell of turkey, eggs and fresh 1984 Topps vending cards. Since Tim mentioned the 1984's, I figured I would open them next. I love the set design from this year. This set also boasts the first two rookie cards that I coveted as a kid (Strawberry and Mattingly). Man I loved those two cards. Still have the orginal Strawberry rookie I bought for $4 and the Mattingly for $5. Here were the results of the break:
Looks like the Jay Johnstone is just going to miss grading a PSA 10...
This vending box had me seeing doubles...about 1/3 of the way through the box, the order began to repeat itself. Yes, legit vending always had a very clear order to the stack.
Lucky for me, the double run happened to include Donnie Baseball...
The Mattingly on the left is very clean aside from the 70/30 centering. Thinking it will still have a shot at a PSA 9...what do you think? The Bill Laskey was the only card in the box that has a good shot at a PSA 10. Thanks for viewing this thread. I think my next rip today will be the 93/94 Fleer Basketball box which has me hunting for a clean Jordan All-Star insert. Then I will break a few 1985 Donruss racks. Please feel free to add any recent rips you have made and/or keep posting photos of your unopened treasures!!!
Just picked this up before the holiday. Very excited to add my first PSA graded star on top cello. Gave a little fist pump after auction ended as I got it at a pretty good price. I just picked up a ton of stuff including a lot of unopened so I will post an update when I receive the rest.
I finally got around to breaking the 93/94 Fleer Basketball Box. I love the look of the Drexler and All-Star inserts from this year. Was hoping for a Jordan All-Star, but I didn't land any major star power in this box. Here were the results:
I also broke another three racks of 1985 Donruss. I pulled a nice Gwynn, Ripken and a few other HOFers. Also a Terry Pendleton rookie ERROR. Fun break.
For my next pack break, I was thinking either 1975 Topps Mini or 1986 Topps Football cello. I will let this group vote between the two. Thanks for reading and telling me your preference for my next pack rip.

I had another 1984 Topps vending box calling out to me last night. The design is super clean on this year and I never tire of pulling Mattingly and Strawberry rookies. These vending boxes are some of the best 80's breaking value out there right now. You can still buy them for $25 from BBCE. Thought about picking up another case from them, but I still have too much of this lying around. Wanted to share a few photos of the rip.
After pulling two Mattingly in the last vending box, I was due for a swing and a miss. Still some good looking HOFers though.
Here were the only two that are worthy of grading.
Thanks for looking. Thinking about ripping something else lying around here today
<< <i>These have been sitting on the top of the rip pile for a few weeks now after picking them up from BBCE as part of their Black Friday deal.

<< <i>Looks like Tim had the only vote and therefore it was unanimous that I rip the 1975 Topps Mini pack.
There was zero star power in this pack, but the cards were all razor sharp and a couple were centered really well. This is the OC group...
Here are the one's worthy of submission. The Vukovich and Bando are dead on, with the Bando being a really low POP 9 (only 4) and zero 10's.
