Spotted a nice AU 53 - 1892-O Dime last night at Heritage - and even though I have a choice AU 58
in my primary set, I thought this one would look great in my nephews' set.

    imageimage

I also spotted a lower end MS 1901 Dime - that has beautiful medium golden toning
and as I have a great looking 64, again, I thought this would look great in the kids set.
As it turned out, this coin was mine eons ago and was in an ANACS 61 holder before I
crossed it, and it came back as a 62. As they say, "what goes around, comes around".....

    image { Used wrong Reverse !! Will correct soon ! }

Here are the images Todd took of this coin back when...

I just picked up a duplicate 1910-S Dime [ funny thing, it was in my Dansco Album for 16 years
and the collector who bought it must have gotten another example...]

    image

    ...................oh, yeah, the grade.......................imageimage

    I also upgraded my 1907-D Half from XF 45 to this AU 53 { the XF 45 is available if there is any interest }

Spotted this on eBay and its a nice looking coin.
Although I still have my original 1912-P from my
Dansco album days, I thought I'd upgrade this, as
I just upgraded the 12-S to a MS 64 last week.

A friend's son is selling off his Barber Halves - Although I have gotten away from
Bright, White AU 58's, every so often I fall prey to their beauty.

My newp as of this morning:

    My most recent pick ups:

    1914-D Dime PCGS 63 - 10% O/C

    image

    image

    1907 Phila Quarter - CAC at grade { TBA }
.....for the slab collectors: it's a "Fatty".
which means nada to me... I just liked
the look of the coin. Makes no difference
to me if it comes back in a AU 58 holder
(actually, I hope it does ) or a MS holder.

    imageimage

    I crossed this 1898 V Nickel - NGC 65 - (CAC ) and our hosts
agreed, so, if slips right into my set without fanfare.

Now, lets see if CAC will grant the same coin another CAC in the same grade.
If it doesn't, then my faith in them is gone.

Picked these up today at auction.

My max bid was only $8.00 higher than I ended up paying !!

    image
    image

Same situation... my Max bid was $1.00 more than my winning bid. I bid on this 1909-S Quarter three years ago, and I was the underbidder by $50.00.
I seriously never thought I'd ever see this coin again. I have added a higher graded coin since then, but I think I'll sell the higher grade and keep this one:

    I had three Dimes crossed:

    1902-P - NGC 55 = PCGS 55

    1896-P - NGC 55 = PCGS 55

    image

    1894-P - ANACS 58 = PCGS 58

I just added this ... although its graded VG 8 -
    I like it for a VG 10.

I am sick of waiting for semi keys to show up
    in 50- 55 - I have added a few F-VF of the Semi
Keys - I am not crazy spending $2000 for a VF
for this date. Here is a very decent coin that was
1/10 th of what a VF costs.

While assisting my dealer friend, Glenn Holsonbake at Long Beach last week,
my friend, Valente151, sent me images of a half dollar he said I should buy.
His quick snap shot showed a fantastically toned reverse on an 1899 Half.
    I thought I really liked my AU 55 - and I never thought I'd ever part with it;
now, this new AU 58 is presented - and it has without a doubt the most
colorful Reverse I have ever seen on a circulated Barber Half Dollar. Heck,
I'm still never selling either of them now !!

Last night, I found this 1909-S PCGS 53 Quarter on eBay. I know the dealer and left him a voice mail
to have him call me this morning, which he did.

We chatted awhile about the date - it's a rare find to locate a nice AU of this date.
My last two sets contained MS 63's. 20 years ago, I also happened to have another
in the same grade is this: PCGS 53.

The images are terrible - but my photographer, Valente151, will image this amoungst
    others within two weeks.

Don't know about you, but I think this could be undergraded. We'll soon see.(*) Its from the Stacks-Bowers auction last night. They called me today at Noon to say its on its way.
It seems the favor I once did for Brian Kandrella a few years ago, had some merit, and he personally mentioned to his staff to get my coin out asap. { I paid for it on line
at 6:30 this morning anyway ! } Still, its a nice gesture.

( * ) It goes to CAC once I receive it, regardless.

I picked up a very attractive Barber Quarter for my cousin's son that I have been mentoring
over the last six years. He's now well on his way to a choice AU collection of Dimes. He was
born in 1998 and my cousin wanted him to have some coins from 1898 - he will be surprised at
this coin... It's raw ... I paid a very fair price for it ... and, I also picked up a MS 1998 from a
Mint Set. Now, all I need to do is locate a two coin holder.

This morning over coffee, I looked at new listings on eBay.
Tom Smith of Rare Dates.COM had a new listing.

I called him and we worked out an agreeable price on this
    1896-O Dime in PCGS 53 [ a minor upgrade over my XF 45 ]

    image

When I told Tom that his images are terrible, we both chuckled; he has always said
the coins he sells always look better than the images !!

Does the 1908-D Quarter come with a variety for this date in which the "D" is slanted?

    Paul,

There are some varieties in the 1908 Quarters - none major. IMHO
The positioning of the Mint Mark was done by hand on each working
Die. Positioning will vary ever so slightly on the reverse but your's does
fall into the norm; I wouldn't call it "Slanted" - check out my most recent
post with the 1909-D Quarter. You'll notice the D mm is approximately in
the exact same spot as the 08-D you posted.

The most elusive mm positioning in the Quarter series is the Center Mint Mark
for the 1897-S..... 95% of all 1897-S's has the MM at far right over D in
Dollar. The nicest centered MM for the 1897-S I have seen is in my friend, Doug
Veal's collection. I believe the set is called the Iowa Collection. It's a high grade AU.

Sorry to report that the PCGS Web Site will not allow my lap top
from accessing it. My server has stated the problem lies with PCGS.

I do not know how to post images from my iPad, otherwise I would
be doing just that. I recently had 160 coins images and was looking
forward to releasing the images slowly, as to not flood the thread.

I have no idea, when or if this problem will ever get resolved. I'm
planning on bringing my lap top - and my iPad - to the Geek Squad
and see if there is some sort of setting that can be done on my Sony
    Vaio to eleaviate the situation.

Recently picked up four Quarters from the Surf City Collection ( Don Willis )

Flipped thru eBay this morning and spotted a couple of Dimes for the Everyman Set.

I have an offer in on one ( it's a common date but is toned nicely - problem is, this guy

wants MS 63 money for an AU 58 and no CAC to support the asking price !! )

I made a decent offer and I guess he's mulling it over. image

I did order a decent 1911-D Dime in PCGS 58 and it's already been shipped !! Talk about

great service. The images are terrible so I'll wait to post any images until my photographer

has a chance to come down and image a couple of dozen newps since last July.
