<< <i>Missing the updates, especially the uniquely stacked coin pictures. >>
I try to get them in every Friday, one week I was off and for some reason it sent me into a four weeks roller coaster of missing the day...lol. I should put an alarm in my phone to remind me.
<< <i>Im now faced with a different dilemma. I was going to spend the cash on a 1955 Double Die but I'm entertaining the notion of acquiring a well known error (any US coin) for the budget of around $2,600 or less). Ive been considering a 3 legged Buffalo, the 1955 Double Die cent , 1972 Double Die cent. Perhaps some of the folks here can chime in on some well known and popular error coins to be had. I must say though that they must be something impressive and something that really pops out at you. >>
I like the idea of getting a coin that would normally not be in your price range. I also like the idea of an older error coin. Choosing from the list that you gave I would go with the 55-DD or the 72-DD. I never have liked the 3LB, it just seems like there are a lot of variations and can be easily faked where as the 55-DD is a prominent error.
That said, I would probably put the $$ into precious metals if I did not have a plan for my pile of coins.

Are you looking for a slabbed version? >>
Im definitely looking for a slabbed version. I wouldnt really trust anything outside of a slab and I would need to buy it from a reputable dealer even if i have to pay a buyers fee. I like the 55-DD since its one fo those coins that jumps out at you and is very impressive on hand. The 72 DD is very nice too and the doubling is very prominent. Ive been collecting for a few years but im not very knowledgeable with some of the more popular error coins out there. I'd have to say the 55 is certainly one of them. I could go for something like a nice AU 58 and spend the rest of the budget on a different coin or even a 72 DD and a 1995 DD. Hey maybe i could even go for the double die penny trifecta of 1955, 1972 and 1995
Still open to suggestions from other members to see what else is out there that is interesting with the $2600 budget (can even go a couple hundred higher
Went to the bank this wast week and picked up a few more half dollars. I found four 40% silver halves so I put them aside and added the rest to this challenge.
I also found this:
Looking it up on line it says this is layered (Electroplated) in gold (Not worth anything). The dates stamped into it are 1960 and 1980.
Here is the edge that I saw when I opened the roll, I thought it was a 90% silver. I'll probably add this back to the challenge.
I also found this:
This has environment damage, it probably was dug out by a metal detectorist. I have dug a few myself (Not halves but other coins) that look just like this.
A quick shot of the silver:
When I found these, they were worth $2.83 each, they will go nicely in my stack.
Here is what I have on stand by for future contributions to this goal. Still not nearly enough, I am getting a little excited with the larger amounts.
Ill take some pictures when i get home from my stash but since Ive been doing mostly bills for quite some time thats what the majority of the stuff will be. Im actually in the process of wrapping all the coins I have since i reallly only have like 4 1/2 paycheks (9 weeks) to complete the challenge. I get the vibe with my wife that she's not too happy with me spending this much on a coin.
It definitely has been an interesting concept and i must say that the past two weeks have been very tough with two cars ending up going to the shop but i stuck to the plan and didnt tap into the piggy bank

Well, you are taking a rather aggressive approach at this challenge You are basically saving X amount of dollars as fast as you can...lol. If you spanned it out over the 52 weeks, you would feel it a lot less.
Make sure you take care of the household and the wifey before your challenge. I bet if you used a chunk of your savings to spend on your wife she would be a lot more accommodating to the idea of you buying a coin or two

For a while there the approach was rather aggressive but it was only due to the extra coins I had in the basement which were there for the last few years (yes years) and not doing much but collecting dust. Those bags and rolls of quarters never panned out as I expected in terms of return. Then birthday was kind of nice so i put that away. I havent felt the pinch due the challenege but the two cars going to the shop back to back. One day one car the next day the other one did put me in a little bind there. Luckily I always have money set aside for those kind of problems so it was no biggie. I give my wife a hard time every once i na while but she doesnt know yet the cool gift i got for her coming up. She'll forget all about the challenge
Playing catch up from the holiday break. I went out of town and was waiting for some Ike Dollars in the mail so without further delay, let's see a few weeks. Starting with week 18.
