The official 2014 Topps Heritage thread

  • Between the errors and the throwback variations - it makes collecting the master set a very pricey endeavor.

  • stopped by 3 targets…nothing. Walmart still has jumbos only. reports of pulls still show limited chase cards. some are only getting a blue border after 4 packs. topps has a great model going. by the time they roll out blasters, they'll have shoved out a decent amount of base cards through the jumbos. Hobby box prices have been ticking up while supply is dwindling according to several forum posts around the country. Not surprising since many say this is their favorite design and year for topps.

To the fellow boilermaker yes the logos are on par with the color variation of 2012 and the gray color variation of last year.
The action variations of 2014 are on par with the 2012 image swap and the 2013 action variation.

Craig I heard the big Heritage players who usually go for this stuff are showing unusual restraint this year >>

I know I am. I'm down from three cases last year and as many as ten cases just a few years ago to one case this year. Heritage is still my favorite set by far, but the resale value is not there anymore. And the two cards I want most out of this set are apparently not in the set or are crazy rare...Bret Saberhagan and Bo jackson auto. Not one single example of either has shown up for sale yet.

I think the whales are still out there buying, i have been able to easily sell all my high end pulls, as has craig, i think (jeter black anyone??)

thanks for the info on the logo variations.......went out this morning to Kmart and Target and still no product ...... guess I'll try the walmart near me.......
  • After a 6 city tour, I finally received my hobby boxes today. Opening tonight after work.
Check out my Collection @ http://www.zistle.com/YankeesNYY
  • So I ripped my first box today and I pulled a Frank Robinson auto/relic redemption card.
Ive never gotten one before so my question is- is there only one type they send you? Do u have
a chance at getting a rare card or are they all the same?
Also i plan on selling either way is it better to sell now or recieve the card first?

    Thanks for any help.
  • There are 25 of the Frank Robinson Flashback Autograph Relic cards. They are all the same although a fraction of the collectors out there will pay a little more for one if it is numbered 01/25, 25/25, or the player's jersey number. If you are a Frank Robinson fan, redeem the card. If not, I'd sell it without redeeming it now on eBay and you should get over twice your money back on the box you purchased. Nice pull!

Opened my first relic. Are they thinner this year? Seems like the 130 PT magnetic holder is no longer needed.. is there a better one?
  • Thanks Craig!

not sure if you made a typo but one of mine is similar to yours but has these 3 on it:

    Bourjos, Pirates Rookies, Rusin

and 1 not on your list:

    2013 Pitching Leaders / Doumit / Young
  • bjbrall4bjbrall4 Posts: 277 ✭✭
    It is indeed Bourjos/PIRATES' Rookies/Rusin.
Thanks for the correction and the additional panel. Now at 29 panels, there is probably one more out there.

Just opened 2 of my final 6 boxes and got the first one of the gold embossed cards I've seen come out of a pack. I thought they were just box toppers but this is small enough to fit in a pack

Damn, just looked on Ebay and those gold embossed cards are going for some good money and I don't see a Darvish listed or sold yet image

    hmmm what to do next.....

  • TNP777TNP777 Posts: 5,711 ✭✭✭
That Darvish is a great hit, Mike. Has there been an official announcement on the Embossed print run? I've heard 15, but I've heard it could be less.
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
If anyone wants to sell off some Indians dupes shoot me a msg! Thanks
  • Zep,

I heard that the print run is 15. They can also be found in retail and since retail is not in full force yet, that is why these cards are extremely rare to see on eBay. Congratulations on pulling the Darvish -- you should get quite a bit for it I imagine. Put an extremely high Buy It Now with a best offer and hope someone gives you an offer you can't refuse!

there are 15 cards at 1:14,667, so at 2.2M total print run (has anyone confirmed otherwise…this is based on mini odds) that puts it at 10 per player…back of the envelope
Check out my Collection @ http://www.zistle.com/YankeesNYY
  • After I hit send, it dawned on me to check the odds on my retail wrapper…sure enough. Different for Retail at 1:7,250 vs. Hobby at 1:14,667. That puts retail at 12 & hobby at 4…so maybe taking rounding into consideration it comes out to 15.

  • Went to 2 Walmarts and a Target today...only had rack packs, no blisters or blasters. Something doesn't add up. 3 weeks past the release date and nothing but rack packs. Last year I saw blasters and blister packs 2 days BEFORE the scheduled release date. I don't think it is Topps but I think it could be someone in the distribution end reselling the boxes for a premium before they even get to the warehouses and the stores. It's just odd.

Waiting on blasters at the local Target. I have 4 coupons from Topps Series 1 blasters that save me $5 a box on Heritage. Can't beat $60 for 4 blasters.

Topps rollout of Heritage (both hobby and especially retail) this year could be a whole chapter in a Marketing 101 class...on what not to do.

  • Nice Rice.
I got the harper and jeter actions as well. Actually 2 jeters and one was well centered and one like yours.
So not only does topps make the actions sp but a centered one is ssp...
  • heritageheritage Posts: 2,662 ✭✭✭
Mike nice pull on the Rice.
  • Nice box!
How many regular set SPs and chromes have you been averaging per box?
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
  • Picked up my first box at the White Plains card show today.

I like the feel and look of these cards better than 2013 Heritage. Half way through the box - not super impressed by the centering.

I still have yet to pull a ROA - 3 boxes in now. My hit was a Drew Stubbs Clubhouse Collection =/

Have pulled 2 Base Chrome and 1 Refractor Chrome.

I purchased the base from another collector's box on Blowout as well... will likely buy one more box and then see what I need for the set.

I have 80/500 from 2013 signed... I think I may try to work on getting the 2014 set signed as well. As I said, I really like the design and feel of these cards.

This is what you should expect…check out my upcoming posts for what I actually got…it's still pretty close though.

    Short Prints 8,
    New Age 3,
    Then & Now 2,
    Baseball Flashbacks 2,
    News Flashbacks 2,
    1965 Draft 2,

  • Have only picked up two buybacks so far, and those were both listed right away.

Kinda surprised as his 65 is not a SP, and I've found a TON of 64s. Hopefully there are more to come.

Resist ye temptation on "loose" packs. Know it's not easy. Stay with the blasters or sealed hobby boxes.
