I bought the 2nd Ray Lewis PSA 10 Bumble Bee this week. Overpaid a little but I was VERY happy with the price as my snipe was set significantly higher than $665. Super excited to get the card in hand and see what first impression it leaves me with.
Might be a weird way to go about collecting but whenever I buy a card that doesn't belong to any of my registry sets, I like to just sort bask in its glow for a couple of days and decide if I love it and it's going into the casket with me or if we don't click at all and I know it will eventually just get re-sold. With oddball sets I'm always going to fall into one extreme end or the other.
That Rock card is a monster and I wish I had the extra scratch to buy it as an investment piece. Some cards should be sold at auction and some should be sold privately after hunting for the right buyer. That card SCREAMS private sale. Good luck to any of you that make a run at it!

I tried checking completed sales on EBAY with no luck. Will you please post the link if it sold there?
If you won it for $665 that sounds like a great price. The Ray Lewis card is on the right side of the sheet and border chipping is a huge problem with that card.
<< <i>Wow. That's an impressive bid! What do you think spread between psa 9 and a psa 8 is? >>
It is so hard to tell. A PSA 7 sold recently for $350. I have come to the conclusion that many cards don't get offers with higher Buy It Now prices because the buyers think it is a waste of time thinking the seller won't move much off the price. There has been little activity on both your card and Rob's.
Many of these niche market cards don't have the natural progression higher like more actively traded cards. In theory you should be able to raise the price significantly as each grade point goes higher but it doesn't always work that way. There are a lot of one off sales that make you shake your head.
Once this auction finishes I would think the price will get some attention and should help bolster this card in general.
I just sold a raw example for $120 that would grade extremely low so there is good demand for the card but with wrestling or wrestling related cards many of the buyers out there are not as condition sensitive as more traditional graded card collectors and won't apply as much of a premium for stronger material.
It is crazy to think that this card still has a week to go and the price that it is up to already.......

I don't think this is crazy at all. There are a lot of closet wrestling fans amongst sports cards collectors and a lot of them have disposable income.
I think we'll see resistance at 4200, but again, I really think selling this through Mile High is limiting the upside. A card like this needs to be showcased far far ahead of time to get ALL of the right eyes on the auction. This card is EXACTLY the kind of item that certain higher end collectors could easily decide they cannot live without. All you need is two of those to collectors to get emotionally invested and then you obliterate the hammer price from this auction.

I certainly realize my BGS 9.5 is not going to command as much as a PSA 10 but it has been a Pop 1 since 2003. If you look at other perforated issues like the Tiger Woods they command some respect in a BGS slab.
For a card to stay a Pop 1 for 11 years in my view suggests it won't move up significantly. If you follow this thread from the earlier stages there was only one sent in to PSA when it started. Believe it or not this thread created a lot of additional activity in this set. People Google sets like this when they have them and uncover a thread and it helps with market information. I think a good number have been pushed into the market which is a good thing for someone buying this card.
You don't have to be a wrestling fan to like Dwayne Johnson. He is a total bad a++ and perhaps the leading man in Hollywood. To think that he went from the guy in the picture to what he is today is just remarkable.
There is no telling what the final price will be and hopefully for the consignor it goes much higher.
The Ray Lewis did really well from this set as it should and there is another HOFer in the set with Warren Sapp. I think I did okay selling these two singles recently as well as the buyer having some unique trading cards that probably will not be going down any time soon. I would think the price of this Rock in the Mile High auction will do the raw set pretty well.

I am following the last few hours of this Rock auction...... will be fun to watch and see if there is some late action making it over $4000 before the premium.......

I could be way off here but I believe Mile High keeps every auction going as long as there's bidding activity on ANY item. This may not end any time soon.

Great transaction. Win win for both of us. I traded down with Dave for this. Good to meet you and thanks for working out a deal. I really don't think anyone could tell the difference between that 9 and the 10.
Just watched some of ESPNs 30 for 30 on the football program at University of Miami. Saw Dwayne Johnson in some of the video footage. The team was a wild bunch in the early 1990s and loved how there were some rules changes because of the team.
Ever put in a ridiculous, embarrassingly high snipe on a card expecting to lose. Then you win, and you didn't pay even close to your max bid? Doesn't happen to me too often but it happened today.
Great news because I was the underbidder on another big card that I'm pretty sure I would have flipped for $1000 profit with little to no effort. You win some, you lose some.
So now I have the trifecta of these stupid tuna cards in PSA 10 (Ray, Rock, Sapp). This is more fun than I thought it would be. I've now started looking for collegiate cards of other favorite players of mine in the 80s/90s/early2000s and I'm not finding as much out there as I'd like. Anyone know of a good catalog for these types of oddball collegiate pre-rookie cards?
I just went to watchcount.com and this card has 62 watchers. I am shocked that the number is that high. The Ray Lewis PSA 8 in comparison only has 18 watchers.
<< <i>Strong price for a 6. Is the Rock still involved in wrestling or is he mostly an actor now? >>
I am not really surprised at the price as I sold one that was probably a 2 for $125 but I am surprised at the eyeballs. Eyeballs lead to higher prices.
He still occasionally shows up on wrestling. At the moment he is the top Hollywood action actor so obviously he is super busy with that.
Wrestlemania 31 is coming up so I wouldn't be shocked if somehow he made an appearance. His cousin Roman Reigns is working the main event and The Rock came out to help him at the Royal Rumble in January.

<< <i>I despise perforated cards, but I do like store brand issues from the 80's and 90's. >>
After reading your post, I instantly thought of this from Clerks:
Dante: You gotta watch the store. I gotta go to this. Randal: Wait, wait, wait. Has it ever occurred to you that I might be bereaved as well? Dante: You hardly knew her! Randal: True, but do you know how many people are going to be there? All of our old classmates, to say the least. Dante: Stop, this is beneath even you. Randal: I'm not going to miss what is probably going to be the social event of the season. Dante: You hate people! Randal But I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic?
I had sold one a few years ago at $300. Of course the listing right around Wrestlemania 31 could have been the factor here. Nice sale.

Awesome!
I checked the pop report yesterday to see if there was anymore activity and saw that hit. Touch card for sure with it being on the top of the sheet!
I just happened to check the population report to see if any more Dwayne Johnson's had been submitted and another PSA 10 hit.
