I'm going to be very nervous separating the cards. Hopefully I get lucky and can get an 8 or better on the Rockcand ray Lewis cards

This set is really easy to break apart. Simply bend on the perforations in both directions once and separate.

There are other perforated sets like the WWF magazine cards that are really tough to separate without damage. I went to fast on a sheet and had a minor paper tear on the Triple H rookie card which really blows as now that cat is out of the bag on that card and I won't be able to easily find another sheet for cheap.

Hopefully for your sake the right edge of the sheet is in good shape as that is what makes the Ray Lewis card really tough as it sits on the right border.

  • I hired a metal worker to separate Tiger Woods rookies a few years ago. He used a hammer and a perf tool and it worked well.

David is right about this technique. I've taken apart hundreds of SI for Kids cards, and this is how I do it. I've landed a few very difficult 10s doing it this way. I usually bend it one direction just past 90 degrees, then the other direction just past 90 degrees, then hold the sheet flat and pull apart. This leaves very nice and natural edges, which PSA looks for. They ding you on razor-cut edges. Just my experience. Good luck!

The top row with sapp was creased and in terrible condition... But the rock card was super clean. No creases or surface issues. I'm happy with it. The ray Lewis didn't have any surface issues but a corner looks dinged

  • Probably an 8
    It never leaves you...

  • I will sometimes take a utility blade to the perforations on the corners so insure a crisp corner for eye appeal. You otherwise risk the eye appeal by tearing away too much or too little
    It never leaves you...

At first look you did extremely well. The scan looks great. I have to think this one will grade high.

If you decide to sell it I would consign it. If this does well it would get some action in a PWCC auction for sure. I have seen wrestling cards get bids from real buyers that are rouge buyers and only get pulled in because they see the sellers other listings.

    Good luck.

  • eagles33eagles33 Posts: 2,682 ✭✭✭
I'm going to send it to get graded. I have no idea how they grade perforated cards though. It could be a 6 it could get a 9... I don't sell much but I have never consigned anything before. Thanks for he heads up. Ill see how it grades and take it from there. I have a psa 10 1998 rock card too. I'm surprised there is still only 1. I tried listing for 50 bucks years ago and it never sold. Now I don't think I would sell it for that much. The red borders make it pretty tough

I'm pretty stoked about it. I hope the it is in a standard size slab. For some reason I've seen them in tall boy slabs. I'm not sure if I want to keep this or the 1998 Rock for my collection.

Good question.. I don't have a good answer. I guess the goal of my collection is to get the rookie card of the most famous athletes in every sport... And then eventually display them chronologically in my man room.. And I can't have 2 spots for the rock.. Haha..

Were you expecting a PSA 9 at all? I know it is tough with perforated cards to have expectations because of the variability........This would be my choice to keep for the Rock for your man cave.......

The card is definitely sharp. No creases or surface issues and the corners were nice but you never know how psa will grade these kind of things. I might just look downgrade to a 6 or so.. I need to check out the card once I get them back and see how it looks in the slab.

I purchased quite a few sheets from numerous years all signed. I just can't imagine someone forging all of those signatures.

It would seem to me that over the years an athletes signature can change a great deal and it would make it really hard for PSA to really know if they are real. I matched up the Dwayne Johnson signature to other items and it looked good.

Oh well better luck next time I guess.

I don't spend much time fretting over cards I have sold but I am afraid I left some money on the table here.

I sold my PSA 8 for $130 in a direct sale and I get the feeling it could have gone for much higher at auction. The PSA 7 I listed a number of months ago went for $72.

Good luck with your PSA 5 Chad.

I just checked the feedback and the seller has left positive feedback for the buyer. This is not always a guarantee but if there was any funny business the seller would be out of the fees.

This will be an interesting auction.

I think Dwayne Johnson himself should buy it. Obviously I have no clue what it is like to have his money but if I did I have to think I would want to have a copy of the best example money can buy of my first and only football card.
