A new bit of 18th C. German Bullion

These tiny coins were issued by The Free and Hanseatic city of Lubeck from 1752-1762, with a weight of .0031 oz. of silver. The special pieces minted in gold are really quite scarce, there are a total of 3 graded, and perhaps a very small handfull in existence although no mintage records are known. As bullion this is probably a bad investment since I paid the equivelant of about $24,000 per ounce, but who knows, if the Bernanke keeps going bullion prices may catch up.

Anyway, I love these off metal strikes from the 18th and 19th centuries.

I don't know of any that have been tested but I would assume around .986 which was the fineness used for striking Ducats.

Nice piece of historical memorabilia. How about placing a penny next to it, so that we can have some idea how small it really is.

The price per ounce is meaningless if you enjoy it and can afford it.
