Let's see some nice 1973 OPC baseball Tom! How about a well-centered Bob Gibson, Thurman Munson or Harmon Killebrew.

Beautiful cards. A bunch up them look like they were cut with nice sharp blades! Amazing how much the cut quality can vary.
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

Probably will get to the 73's later today and I have lots of them!
The stars you just brought up are very difficult to find centered and not sure I have and good ones, sharp but not centered

This is arguably my favorite thread since joining CU, and it's not due solely to the impeccable cardboard that's being pulled from north of the border. It's primarily Tom's unparalleled freaking passion! You're a veritable pit o-pee-chee bull! Seriously, there are life lessons to be learned here. If you want something badly enough, get off of your can and make it happen.

Out of curiosity, do you come in contact with a lot of unopened OPC material as well?

I find very liitle wax. I have had better luck finding vending cases than wax.

I did buy a 1991 wax case on this trip. It was on Sunday. I paid $100!!!! This is not a typo $100!!!!

There was 1 problem though, we cracked the seal because the case was not stored in a good spot.
We opened the top box and cracked a pack, the gum ate through all the cards in the pack.
    I still bought the case.
I figured I would still do well on the box bottoms alone.
I went to the hotel room later that night and cracked the whole case (24 boxes) hoping I could get a good chipper or 2.
Well the cards were disgusting throughout the whole case but did well on the box bottoms

Here are the best 2 chippers I found...

Maybe from a cut card case? Did OPC run in those?

Ouch, brutal Chippers, especially for being the "best" of the bunch. Glad to hear the box bottoms will cover the cost.

Nice work on the 80's though.

Wow. So, Tom, are these people that have no clue what's going on in the hobby? I mean are they just naive to the reality of what these cards are going for? I wonder how hard it is to find a line between bargaining and making out like a bandit.

I ask because I have a friend who is clueless that has tons of 1981-1986 football cards in boxes fresh and clean. He said "just give me whatever". How do you handle that?

    Any Winfield OPC RC's?

No luck on Winfield rookies. I got some very high grade 74's but the star power was lacking.

As for what I am picking up, none of the stuff I have picked up from people came accross like "just give me whatever". They are selling me raw lots/sets etc. I look at what they are selling me and in my mind, I see the graded value in the lots. The people are not clueless as to what they have but probably not up to date with the graded values. At the same time as a buyer, i'm not going to pay graded values on raw cards.
I pay these people fair. Most cases I try and get a figure from them, the cards are theirs.

Awesome haul, as always, Tom! That 87 OPC Bonds is a real blazer!

Henderson RC looks dead centered, too!

    Thanks Tim.

The Henderson is very sharp but the centering is off a little L/R I think its a easy 8 but if centered just a hair better it would be a 9.

Is that OPC Bonds tuff in a 10? I bought a lot of about 50 of them at a show a few years ago, 90% being off center.

If you got 10% centered I'd say you did well. I've never seen a 1987 O-Pee-Chee uncut sheet but I have to imagine that the Bonds is in a corner spot. I've opened a ton of boxes and never got a single Bonds that had PSA 8 centering.

There were a few sales about a year ago and 3 more PSA 10's have popped since then so it's not hopelessly impossible but it's a very difficult card.
