    Has anybody tried Delcampe?

They started out in stamps in Europe and now are trying to penetrate the US market in other collectibles. Farless BS than ebay, but no where near the name market recognition.

A sales rep was at the Charlotte show a few weeks ago with info on their site. It was news to me. What we need is a stiff competitor for fleabay.

<< <i>Decent bullion sells like hot cakes on eBay. Junk bullion does not.
Most of my bullion sell at approx 20% - 30% above spot. Even after the fees, it's considerably more than what a B&M or even the BST would offer. Fixed price plain vanilla bullion will just remain in your store and "gather dust" To much competition for most items. >>

Curious...what do you consider "decent bullion"? SAEs? 90% coins? Certain bars?
What would be the definition of "junk bullion"?

I ask as I have not sold them and am curious.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Funny how I finally come back to ebay...give a bunch away to get top rated...open a store...now they throw a requirement in that will cost me top seller discounts. The majority of weekends I attend shows. There is no way I can cover the Thursday to Sunday window and stay within 90% and 1 day shipping. Easy come...Easy Go... when I loose my discount I R GONE!

ASE's, Kooks, Libertads, silver bars from recognized manufactures..PAMP, Valcamby, J&M, Credit Suisse, Degussa, Greathouse..just to name a few. Heck, even modern suppliers such as Scottsdale are getting 15 - 20% above spot
Junk (not demanding much premium)...home made bars, Franklin Mint Sterling Bars, Hamilton Mint, no name bars ... just to name a few. Do a little bid of research of completed silver bar auctions on eBay, you'll be able to spot what's hot or not.

The 14-day return policy is not a huge factor, IMO, but with the new format, scammers and people that buy coins on approval wil be able to simply click a button and have their return labels printed out for them! A great improvement for lazy thieves and losers!

Sure, why not snatch up a bunch of coins on spec prior to a major show and then just return to the sellers what you can't flip.

    Thank, feepay!

The 14-day return is no big deal as far as I'm concerned. The fact is that if you've ever accepted PayPal, you've offered a 45-day return privilege whether you liked it or not.

There are three aspects of the new policies that do concern me though:

    1. The 1-day handling requirement. That pretty much kills the notion of anyone who doesn't do this full time or has a staff as being able to be a Top Rated Seller, so goodbye 20% discount.

    2. The requirement that 90% of domestic shipments have tracking uploaded within 1 day. This doesn't affect most sellers here, as you're selling bigger-ticket items, but for anyone selling stamps, sports cards, or other items that can normally be sent at letter rates, this means the seller having to raise their shipping costs and pack and ship everything as a parcel, which will likely alienate buyers.

    3. The new returns program that for the moment will be "opt in", but the handwriting is on the wall that this will become mandatory. Basically sellers will pay return shipping unless the buyer voluntarily reports buyers remorse... which we all know buyers will not do once they know it means they pay the return shipping cost. Furthermore, there's no guarantee that the buyer won't choose a return shipping method that is more expensive than the one that the seller originally used. Also, there is no requirement that a buyer insure return shipments.

Lastly, for anyone that sells CDs, DVDs, or books, they get screwed by this return program: media mail is not an included shipping option for return shipping. If the buyer decides to return those 10 pounds of books Priority Mail, BABOOM!

  • Not every seller uses photobucket or html or even understand how to use it.Even here long term members struggle to get a pic up so im pretty sure ebay has had it's nickels and dimes from many more than the occasional seller using self hosting pics. Regardless of all that it is still a very positive move in the saving dept for small time sellers. Personally i gave ebay up as a bad joke a long time ago.

Since you're a comic book guy too, I'll tell you this. Ebay almost killed the comic book convention. Now they are coming back into vogue. Craig's list is growing by leaps and bounds. BST sites like the one on this board are just getting hotter and hotter (again). The Ebay affect is being unwound. Sales are going back to how they were before Ebay.

Can you buy an ebay store on a monthyly basis. Pay for one month when you sell. The months that you don't sell, dont pay for an ebay store?

I would think 1 day is 1 day. IE sell on Thursday then ship on Friday. I think I thought of a go around though...I'll just have to go into vacation mode every time I go to a show. Ebay is getting rediculous though!

    << <i>Right now, I'm not paying $191.88 per year for a store.

It is an issue as I'm forced to either pay an extra $150 per auction listing or pay their $191.88 whether I sell every month or not. >>

What's your average sale? Let's assume it's $1500. No store, you're currently paying $100 final value fee. With a store, that fee would be $51.75. You'd need only four sales in a year to pay for the store. Anybody who's been selling high dollar coins below approximately the $4000 level without a store has been screwing themselves.

I agree and this is just the unfortunate down side to capitalism. It is the business model to build an empire and then push the limits of revenue generation until you reach the breaking point. People talk about spending more and not getting more value but others would simply call this a market correction of the product realizing the value that it should be bringing all along. They are the only game in town more or less, people will still use them.
  • Anyone experiencing an increase in ebay returns all of the sudden? I have two this week after basically none thru 100s of sales. Hope this is a blip and not a trend and that ebay hasn't made changes on the buyer side already to make it real convenient for buyers to just make returns willy nilly.
