How many of you have to "Take a number" at the local B&M??

I do - or you don't get helped. Seriously!

door. I've been in there maybe 3 times. Saw one 15 year old or so and have never seen another
person. No numbers needed there!

I've known my local B&M owner for over 40 years. 'Ol curly don't take no number.
Not quite as long but I feel the same way Curly ... and not because I would even mind a wait. They can be packed to the gills and one of the owner's boys, the floor manager, or the owner will wave or raise an eye to me, and see if I need to be taken care of quickly, or if I want to browse a bit first. I guess 20 years means something.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

I am to busy shaking everybody's hand to take a number, but I am not one to get in another mans way when business is being conducted

Certainly not my experience there.
I've sold to them and I've heard their buy prices on gold and silver bullion coins while waiting my turn.
Can't speak to their buy prices for scrap gold and jewelry however.

My local B&M dealer is not very customer service oriented because he is always too busy on ebay to help anyone (if someone were to walk in, which is very infrequently). Him and I have an alright relationship though after years of doing biz with him and having a couple of like interests.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

The early 1970's were pretty much the last time most B&M shops were truly busy in the coin realm (not just precious metals and modern mint issues).
Another time, during the Hunt Bros. run on precious metals in the early spring of 1980, I went to Nevada Coin Mart (Stan Zurawski and family) in Las Vegas and had to wait in a line outside for 10 minutes, until one of the armed guards let me in to sell some sterling silver. Silver quotes were being updated every 15 minutes on a large board behind the counter. You could make (or lose) money while you were just standing in line.
The only time I've taken a number is at fast food places, and various Motor Vehicle Division offices.
In all honesty, all but one have a "The man in charge isn't here right now" circumstance on a regular basis. The one I elect to go to consistently has good service, maybe not any coins; but it keeps me coming back in to check out widgets.
Edited: I also bought my watch from the store.

i would normally have to take a number since the B&Ms i frequent have a solid customer base BUT
i tend to sit for hours to the side going through coins so there usually isn't too much waiting since i
try to check out in-between customer floods and get there before the floods show up
