Foo Fighters is correct and I use to LOVE 311 but 6 number/letter combo wasn't enough and I needed 1 more so I just added the 2. Ive had that for about 10 years now.
As far as Ihop, I still love Ihop
I think it would be wise like Brandon mentioned to always have control of where you're meeting at. Ive met people meet me at my job and even a gas station a couple of times if I felt they were harmless but if they need to come to my house, I always tell them the address next door over the phone when they need one to mapquest because I don't like giving it out and sometimes they never show and I start to think that maybe they can rob me when I'm not home.
I will definitely update this story once I find out how he handled or if most of you are correct and he is simply just out of luck. And for that 1% that think this and every story/topic is made up - I mentioneda month back that Mike Napoli bailed out on a show being held by one of his friends and some commented that there's "no way Mike Napoli who would of been the Rangers MVP would do a signing at some small card show." Well that story turned out to be true and was verified on the internet and even TMZ published that story. "Goraiders" attends the same card show and he knows the same people. He can ask Lou, the guy who puts this think together.
<< <i>a couple of times if I felt they were harmless but if they need to come to my house, I always tell them the address next door over the phone when they need one to mapquest because I don't like giving it out and sometimes they never show and I start to think that maybe they can rob me when I'm not home. >>
Okay, my neighbors house is empty. People moved out and its been empty for almost 6 months. Happy now. Jeez, always finding something to complain about on this thing.
Dont know if you were being funny but stop taking everything so personal and literally like if it was directed towards you. This board is suppose to be fun. Not everything has to be an attack. No one on here got taken for $2200 so whats up with all the anger?

WOW. Glad you are not my neighbor! >>
Um and if they turn out to not be harmless unless they are blind all they have to do is look around a little and stake the area out to see where you actually live.

Any guy that gives out his neighbor's address to total strangers so that if something goes wrong, they get robbed instead of himself is a major TOOL in my book. What you think someone doesn't own that house? You think the owner of the house next door appreciates having their doors and/or windows potentially smashed in because you are sending total strangers you met on Craigslist over there. NICE!
The probability of someone getting murdered on Craigslist is slim. Notice how I didn't say none but first and foremost, my obligation is my family - so if that's what I'm going to do to feel safe then I'm going to do it. Sorry I don't prefer to use a gun. I read a statistics that said that people who use guns more likely to be shot than others or be used in stupidity.
Um and if they turn out to not be harmless unless they are blind all they have to do is look around a little and stake the area out to see where you actually live
And how would they know that if they have never seen me or the person they are meeting up with? Seriously, no ones gonna sit out there and stake a house hoping to find "the right house". For that, they may as well pick any random house to rob.
I have done hundreds of Craigslist deals at Denny's - and they have all went off without a hitch. Bob Evans would probably be a good place to try as well.
I would stay away from Waffle House though; seems like it would be a bad place to make a transaction of that magnitude.
<< <i>my obligation is my family - so if that's what I'm going to do to feel safe then I'm going to do it. >>
I don't normally post in these types of threads, but that statement is gnawing on me. That's one of the most cowardly and selfish statements I've seen on this board when taken into context with your other posts. You are willing to put another family in your community in jeopardy because you are a coward (not a coward for wanting to protect your family, but the willingness to put neighbors in what you perceive to be harms way because of your own selfishness and desire to conduct a hobby transaction) If you are so worried about meeting strangers from Craigslist at your home, then you shouldn't be conducting business through Craigslist, or you need to conduct it in a different method. It's not worth it to you to put your own family in jeopardy, but yet, the potential transaction means enough to you that you'd place someone else in jeopardy. Selfish, selfish, selfish. There are a myriad of potential places you could meet someone if you don't trust them enough to have them at your house. Perhaps a courthouse, numerous banks, and a number of other facilities.
Wow, that's all I can say. I usually like most of your posts, but this truly disgusts me. Back to the sidelines for me.
My intention is not to offend anyone on here nor to put ANYONE in harm. Ive dealt with people on craigslist plenty of times and personally, I haven't had any issues but one must not rule out the possibility that the person on the other end of that phone may wanna cause harm. As far as putting people in jeopardy to build my hobby - Ive never sold one single baseball card on that thing. Theres some items that cannot be taken to a court house.
<< <i>I also have my conceal carry permit and do carry when I meet people in public places. Finally if it is a bigger deal where I will have $1000+ in cash on me I bring along a friend who is also conceal carrying so he is an extra set of eyes in case someone tries to pull something on us >>
Finally, someone who understands what I've been saying all along.
Card collecting is dangerous stuff, you gotta be packin heat or you're in the wrong hobby.
There is so much that could be said about the OP...I dont know where to start so I dont even think I will begin. Im with Mike on this...just wow. And so many hypocritical statements being made, no regard for others, and an absolute clucker. While I agree no one wants to put their family at risk, either stop using Craigslist all together or find another way. You dont send someone to your neighbors house for goodness sake no matter if no one is living in it or not. Eventually someone WILL be. And to go back to having a friend tag along with you that carries a gun? Is this a freakin drug deal or something? There are ways to avoid having anyone meet up while packing. Someone having a gun presents a possibility of it being used and out of your control what the person does. The other person gets killed, you're on the hook as well. If you really want to protect your family, dont deal with in person meetings if you are weary! A real lack of character by the OP (just as him not wanting to do his civil duties as a juror).
Usually when I am buying on Craigslist I have the buyer meet me in the middle of the woods and navigate a series of booby traps and scale a large oak in order to get to a treehouse where we will conduct business. Posted in the surrounding trees will be several pygmy's equipped with poison dart shooters should any trouble arise. Can never be too careful.
When a thread starts with a story like this one did, Vegas is no longer taking bets on "this thread will eventually blow up in the OP's face".
It's a non-wagering event, like a Globetrotters/Generals game.

A friend of mine who lives in Las Vegas emailed me some time ago a story about a great sports card find on Craigslist that made the paper there - several thousand dollars in nice stars and rookies, including a Stargell rookie and early cards of Aaron, Clemente, and Koufax (there was a picture of the Koufax, and it was a '57) that the seller was asking $250 for.
Why it made the paper was that the buyer was the card store those cards had been stolen from a few weeks before, and he showed up with the police to make the deal.

I give out the outlet mall's address that is 2 minutes away from me... There would never be a reason to give them your neighbor's address... That's just plain wrong...
I have made 3 deals on craigslist where I met the guy in the parking lot of a nearby police station. First of all if the seller is afraid to meet me there then that says alot right there. Once a patrol car stopped to see what we were doing, I explained what was up, he agreed it was a good place to do it and went on his way. I am a retired police officer, I would have no problem with that either. It is like when we had weekly child custody transfers being done in our lobby every week - its a pretty safe place to be.

That's actually a hell of an idea, I live about 5 minutes away from the local station, do you think they (Officers/deputys) wouldn't actually mind if you met another party in that parking lot? I don't know how private/public it really is (I've never actually turned into this place in living here for 5 years).
I know my bank doesn't put up with it at all, but I've never tried the station.

Anyway, as with most collections - you have to sort through your junk to find your gems.
If you aren't willing to do that - then you are probably a vintage collector.
Reading from the majority of your comments, you guys are right. Giving my neighbors address was a dumb move. Meeting in a public place maybe like a near by grocery store and then scoping the guy out and is he seems legit/cool, he can follow me to my house.
But back to the original topic - Honestly, do you guys think my friend is out of luck or with the Craigslist print outs - would that be good enough. See, one thing I never mentioned and I forgot to was that I remember seeing pictures of the cards on the Craigslist posting ad that he showed me - so that whole theory about him possibly switching the cards might not be possible.

There are some really stupid Brain Winters fans on the board. Why is everyone so angry and hateful. Did you guys have a bad New Years? Did you not get everything you wanted for Christmas. Does your job suck here and you come to vent. I like a lot of you on here but there sure are just handful of you who have nothing to do but constantly bash. This board is about the love of cards and the hobby. Did some of you forget that? If I wanna post my 1991 Darryl Strawberry Donruss, then I'm gonna do it - or does it belong in the coins forum? If you don't like a topic or a poster, don't read or write it if its going to make you upset.
Again, I'm open to a criticism but try and be somewhat respectful. I dont go out and call people out until they do it first. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. How do you know that something has happened to me or someone I know that makes me believe that what I do there is a reasoning for it. If you don't agree, fine but be respectful about it at least. Some of you act like you guys are the internet police but the same way you guys like calling out what you deem to be wrong, you also about a few post from cyber bullying. Does that make some of you feel better because you probably dont have the guts to say things like this in person? I'm not sure what it is but please watch what you say to others.
I'm just on here for my love of the hobby. >>
Considering you give out your neighbors address instead of your own when it comes to your craigslist transactions, I don't know if you have the right to critique others on face to face meetings...
Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
<< <i>But what if the guy has a garage full of stuff and wants to meet at his "house". >>
Then his name would be Sean
Oh wait sorry garage not front room - I apologize
<< <i>I have made 3 deals on craigslist where I met the guy in the parking lot of a nearby police station. >>

This is going to be a new municipal initiative across the country: Establishing designated craigslist meet-up locations with police officers on patrol.

I can hear the guy now, "The ad said 10,000,000 cards but all he showed me was a couple hundred cards, a few boxes and two baseballs. Reportedly, 100 and some sticker cases where in the other room but he didn't have time."
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Sadly it was 31 baseballs not two. Not kidding!
Anyway, as with most collections - you have to sort through your junk to find your gems.
If you aren't willing to do that - then you are probably a vintage collector.
But back to the original topic - Honestly, do you guys think my friend is out of luck or with the Craigslist print outs - would that be good enough. See, one thing I never mentioned and I forgot to was that I remember seeing pictures of the cards on the Craigslist posting ad that he showed me - so that whole theory about him possibly switching the cards might not be possible.
depends if you bring a gun I guess
