Gold/Silver bullion OR Common Dates/90%? Why?

DD Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭
Just wondering if anyone has a preference and why if they're collecting gold or silver for the PM value. Also, if one sells better than the other from peoples experience.

Personally I'd rather have real circulated coins than bullion in MOST cases just because of appearence and functionality. I suppose if I were to obtain a lot more I would prefer bullion.

  • I like Mercury dimes and Walking libs. the best for silver in VF Ef. Gold , I like $5 libs in the 1840's or 50"s for slightly over melt. Why??Just in case silver and gold would crash I would still have an old coin to look at.

My favorite was filling old Whitman albums with Walkers and Mercury dimes, but I like it all.

  • If the purpose of the PM holdings is simply PM value, than I would chose whatever has the lowest premium. If the premiums are the same I would chose the 90% as long as the coins were all EF/AU or better. When you buy 90% by face you can lose a fair amount of silver weight if you buy in quantity and receive a bunch worn coins. If prices were ever to head skyward as many predict there may come a time when people weigh 90% so sitting on a truckload of mercury slicks may not be the best method of stacking...

PAMP or Credit Suisse bars in all weights ... Universally recognized, unlike some gold bullion coins.

90% silver and silver eagles, both are always easy to turnover if needed.
