What would you grade this buffalo?

I just bought this (fairly cheap obviously because of its date), but it is in an icg case and I want to see if it would match up with pcgs. What grade would you give this? I think it is pretty nice.

I think the hit at the Chief's temple keeps it out of a 66 holder. Nice coin

MS66....although the lighting seems a tad bright and from the side... possibly making it look better... nice coin. Cheers, RickO

Nice strike. At any level above MS 65, it's tough guessing here, online. I've embarassed myself a few times. image

It looks like an MS-65 or better, but getting it certified is a marginal move. The 1838-D Buffalo was saved in Mint State quantity and is very common. Back in the '70s it was not hard to buy these coins by the roll.

Without the coin inhand, I would still think it would garner an MS66.

Ya, I agree. I just wanted a nice buffalo example...didn't really care about the date. It's in an icg holder, I am fine with that for now image

    Thanks guys!

If the luster is there, I could see in in a 6 holder. As Bill Jones said, these coins were sold by the roll in the 60s and 70s. In 1968, a dealer literally took one from a roll and sold it to me for $1 or $2. It was golden toned on both obverse & reverse and would be in a 6 holder today.

the icg holder has it as a 66.
so it seems like they were right image
It was only $40 shipped on ebay...and I just want a nice buffalo to look at until I can get a better date

Doesn't seem to have the blast for a 67.
