1924 Standing Liberty quarter (w/grading poll)

lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,608 ✭✭✭✭✭
I purchased this one recently. Unlike my other recent grading polls, this one isn't a raw coin. It's already in a slab. I'll post the slab later.

(Edit to add: I'll post the slab picture when the poll reaches 20 or more votes. It is not a PCGS slab.)

In the meantime, let's see where the poll goes. I would say this coin is not quite as brown in hand as in the pictures (at least not in the light I've examined it in so far). But it's definitely toned. I rather like the brownish look but we'll see what you have to say about it.

For the record, I went with the "Neutral" option on the poll on this one (no vote), since of course I know what the slab label says.

AU 50 Hard to tell how much luster it has. Maybe a 55

There's not a ton of luster, mostly because of the toning. Still, I like the look.

Eighteen votes so far, and interestingly, we're all over the map on this one. So far two people have it right.

And the previous owner has replied here, so I would imagine he's one of the ones who's guessed correctly, ya think? image

    I'll do the reveal soon.

    I said 58, but I think it's a 55! Upper AU for sure!

    OK, 20 votes.

Three people guessed correctly, and one additional person (no- two additional people) guessed it correctly as an afterthought.

The previous owner says he voted "Neutral" with me, so as not to skew the results.

Stand by... gonna answer a PM or two and then the reveal.

I agree with the grade. The TPGs do pick up the wear on the sash in front of the drapery. On the reverse, the wingtips on the viewer's right appear to show some wear as well.

I voted AU 53 based on the darker original photos. With the whole-slab photos looking a little more appealing, I can agree with AU 55.

I love the number of EF grades in the poll. Were they looking at the same coin?

I think that it's an EF-45, but the grading services probably called it a 50 or 55. It all depends upon the luster. With Standing Liberty quarters I can usually take my grade and up to the next level to get the market grade.
