Yeah, that fied goal festival win vs Washington last night was very impressive, LOL!!! Quite an offensive juggernaut you have in big D!

I have to agree with you grote. That was the most pathic(sp) display of offense I have seen in a long time. It's like no one was on the same page!

They have the players if they can get together and get healthy to be good, but I'm no Steve, and will not guarentee a SB!

    I'm a fan but not crazy!image

    By the way....where is Steve????????image

I think Steve may be out in the woodshed, drowning his sorrows with bottles of Sam Adams.

Actually, a reliable FG kicker could come in handy later in the season. Dallas has one and Washington does not. Gano missed another chip shot which turned out to be the difference in that game. How in the world is he still on the roster after all the kicks he's missed. I'm not even a Redskin fan and I notice it. I can only imagine how their fans feel.

For the rest of us not in Dallas or Philadelphia or drinking that "America's team" kool-aid this is what we see...

Dallas vs. Philadelphia = Al Qaeda vs. Taliban

Okay maybe that was harsh but Dallas vs Philadelphia is like asking which is better, bandwagon fans or d-bag fans.

    So true, so true.

The Cowboys need a DC who makes adjustments and calls plays based on the flow of the game rather than using crazy blitzes on every offensive play (opponents tend to figure them out by the 4th quarter).

How is this loss on Garrett or Romo? Sure Romo should have completed the pass to Austin but the defense failed to show up in the second half and let Manning move the ball at will.

Romo needs some kind of defense to help him win games.

Gruden would make it worse. I watched him destroy the Bucs due to his "personal" issues with a lot of the players. He is not well liked by the players he coached...fact.

Yes I do put last night loss on Romo. A good QB that can win a game for you will complete that pass to Austin. If completed that would have wrapped the game up. First down 2:30 to go. Game, set and match.

Neither Aikman or Staubach could win w/ that defense b/c they always allow teams to score at will in the 2nd half.

You mean the pass that Austin said he lost in the lights??

If Austin said he lost it in the lights...he was trying to save Romo. That ball was NOT catchable. Overthrown pretty bad!

dfr52 - I strongly disagree. Romo is not half the QB of either Roger S. or Troy A. Actually I would take Danny White over Romo.

If I own the Cowboys.......Romo is gone! There are probably 20 QB's out there I would take over Romo.

And I never did like Garrett as a player or coach. He would also be gone.

Go watch it again - Austin was not going full-out at certain points at the end of the route. He MAY be getting Romo's back, but it looks a lot like an OF trying to pick the ball up.

There would have been 2:30 left in the game and I thought the Giants had 2 timeouts and the 2 minute warning. This is a scenario that announcers seem to mess up ad nauseum. The game was not close to over, the Cowboys would have needed another first down to ice it if Austin had not scored.

Also love that the WR not seeing the ball because he lost it in the lights was Romo's fault. The Dallas defensive failed to make a stop when the game was on the line. If the requirement to win is that you always run the clock out when you have a one score lead because your defense can't protect a lead then you aren't going to win many games.

20 QBs over Romo? There are over 20 teams that would trade QBs with you in a heartbeat.

Romo is an above average QB but seems to lack the grit to get it done when it really matters (ie playoff record) but one playoff run would completely alter that image. Of course you can have Sam Bradford, Tavaris Jackson, Colt McCoy, Andy Dalton, Matt Schaub, Christian Ponder, Matthew Stafford, Matt Hasselback, Matt Moore, Mark Sanchez, Matt Cassel, Rex Grossman, Cam Newton, Josh Freeman, Blaine Gabbert, Curtis Painter, Jay Cutler, Alex Smith, Kevin Kolb, Jason Campbell, or Ryan Fitzgerald. Then you don't have to worry about losing close games in excruciating ways, you could just lose.

You need to stop making excuses for Romo. He is not a rookie making rookie mistakes. He is a 6 year veteran making rookie mistakes. Maybe the right QB coach could make something of him, but I think after 6 years....he his what he is.

There are a whole bunch of QB's in the list that I would take over Romo.

Saying he is above average, BUT can't get it done in the crunch or playoffs pretty much sums up the qualities of a QB that I DON'T want!

I you switched Romo and Rogers. The Cowboys would be 13-0 and the Packers would have our record......guarenteed!!!
  • bkingbking Posts: 3,095 ✭✭
I will agree that Romo had a chance to put the game away and didn't connect (for whatever reason)

But c'mon, that game was entirely on the shoulders of the defense and Ryan. WAY too many receivers running free. I missed most of the first half, but it seemed like as the 2nd half wore on Ryan got more and more aggressive even though the (a) the base defense was hanging in there, and (b) everytime they threw the kitchen sink at the Giants there was a coverage breakdown.

  • Everytime Dallas loses a close game Dimeman blames Romo. Dallas scores 34 points, Romo throws for 321 yards, 4 touchdowns and no picks, and has a 141 passer rating and it is HIS fault? You know, the reason I have hated the Cowboys all of these years is because of fans like you. I remember visiting my aunt in Dallas in 1983, and listening to talk radio. Call after call was "Fire Tom Landry. He sucks." This was after the Cowboys had been to the playoffs for 17 years in a row (except in 1974) and had won multiple Super Bowls. You folks haven't got a clue. Let me break the news to you. Laurent Robinson didn't get cut from three teams because he's a Pro Bowler. Miles Austin didn't even get drafted out of college. Do you really believe that these are elite receivers? And if you really think that putting Aaron Rodgers with this team would make them 13-0 then you really have absolutely no knowledge of football whatsoever. I was watching the game last night and when Manningham dropped the touchdown pass my wife was upset. I said to her, "Don't worry. The Dallas defense will find a way to give up another one." Sure enough. Romo led six scoring drives, and took his team to a potential seventh one when the kick was blocked. The Cowboys defense gave up 510 yards to the New York Giants offense last night that had Ahmad Bradshaw only get eight carries. You gave up 400 yards passing. You gave up 101 yards to Brandon Jacobs. Yes, the same Brandon Jacobs that hasn't had a game over 75 yards rushing since LAST December. But your defense made him look like Adrian Petersen. Tony Romo is not your problem. Jerry Jones, the crappy coach, a mediocre defense, and a spoiled fan base that has delusions that the Cowboys are still America's Team are the issues.

Poweredh2O - You are showing your ignorance and hatred of Dallas. Miles Austin is one of the best recievers in the NFL. Jason Whitten is the best TE. #88 is a monster and will get even better. And yes, if Rogers was thrown in there we would have the record GB has. Look at all the games lost because of Romo's bad plays. Rogers does not do that. Sure Romo puts up big numbers, but he can't get the job done when needed. That's what separates him from the top QB's in the NFL.

As for Landry, I have never wanted him fired, and was pi$$ed when Jones fired him. You never saw a Landry coached Cowboy team blow games like these resent coaches.

The bottom line in the Giant game is that if Romo makes the easy throw to the wide open Austin......the game is over. I guarentee Rogers and about 20-30 other QB's make that completion.
  • There are at least 30 other receivers I'd rather have than Miles Austin. Let's see... Greg Jennings, Andre Johnson, Mike Wallace, Steve Smith, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Roddy White, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker, Vincent Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston, Desean Jackson, Dez Bryant, Jeremy Macklin, Jordy Nelson, AJ Green, Victor Cruz, Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks, Stevie Johnson, Pierre Garcon, Anquan Bolden, Antonio Brown, Nate Washington, Torrey Smith, Reggie Wayne, Julio Jones, Deion Branch... heck, there are probably a few more. It has nothing to do with a hatred for the Cowboys. Romo is a decent Top 10-15 QB, Witten is an elite tight end, and Dez Bryant is an explosive playmaker. But Miles Austin is a product of the system and is no better than the Robert Meacham, Mario Manningham, Sidney Rice, Mike Williams group. When Miles Austin got hurt, Laurent Robinson came in and had Pro Bowl numbers. This is a guy with roughly 1,000 yards receiving in a four year career prior to this year. If Laurent Robinson can come in and replace you and put up similar numbers, you ain't that valuable.

OK, for you that believe that the defense is the problem and the difference between the Packers and Cowboy records.

Here are the stats. There are only 5 teams in the NFC that have given up fewer points than Dallas.

The Packers who are one of the 5 have given up a whopping 3 total points less than Dallas. That's less than 1/4 point per game.

Now how is that the problem. The difference is Rogers steps up and makes the plays needed to win and Romo chokes and we lose.

    ROMO IS THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rogers and Romo had very similar stats v. the Giants so I don't see how Rogers played better. Romo is in the top 5 for TD's and passer rating this season so I don't know how there can be 20 QB's better than him.

Ratings don't mean squat. They showed a list during the game that showed Romo having the highest QB rating in the 4th quarter amoung all QB's!

HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THAT BE.....given all the bad plays and INT's he has had in the 4th quarter. He sucks in the 4th quarter where it counts and that is winning games.

It's like rating defenses by yards given up. At the end of a game....who wins......the team with the most yards "OR" the team with the most points!!image

Even ignoring passer rating he's still top 5 in TD's and completion percent. Out of the current starting QB's only Alex Smith and Rogers have fewer INT's than Romo on the year. I don't see any valid arguments against Romo as the Cowboys starter.

How can you say that??!! Look at the Detroit game....Romo lost that game period!!

And there were several others and last night he could have won the game. All he had to do was play catch with Austin. He blew it. Rogers would have made that throw and won the game.

It doesn't matter what Romo did the rest of the game. When it came down to crunch time he blew it. That's all I am saying. I don't see the Cowboys winning play-off games and Super Bowls with Romo at QB. He has the talent to, but just can't get it done. And how many more years does his favorite reciever (Whitten) have. If Romo was going to be a Great winning QB he would have done it by now.

If I was Jerry I would start looking for a new QB and definitely replace Garrett!

It is entertaining to see a Dallas fan ripping on Tony Romo. The only reason your team is in any of these games is because of Romo. But it is easier to look at one play in the course of an entire game and decide that the one play was the determining factor (even if it doesn't even appear to have been the QBs fault that the pass was not completed).

From 2000 - 2005 (after Aikman retired and before Romo started) Dallas was 40 - 56 with one wild card berth.
From 2006 - 2011 Dallas is 55 - 38 with 2 Division titles and one wild card as well as currently tied for the division lead.

What dimeman has is a lack of perspective. He appears to have forgotten how bad a team is when they have a mediocre QB which is what the Cowboys would most likely have if they try and get rid of Romo (look at the Redskins the last 10 years for instance). There are no good free agent QBs and the chance of draft a top 10 QB (which you need to be consistently good in the NFL) is very, very slim.

As far as crunch time against the Giants Romo actually lead his team into field goal range with a minute or so left in the game. But that doesn't make for a compelling argument to get rid of him. Go ahead and start a movement to get rid of Romo I am sure the rest of the league would rather prepare for Jon Kitna as the Cowboys starting QB since he did so well the 12 years prior to coming to Dallas.

    Cheers,

Archie had a crappy record and threw more picks than touchdowns and the Saints lost a lot of games late (and early for that matter). But, we understood that when your best offensive weapons are guys like Bob Newland and Jess Phillips, you aren't going to put together a lot of wins. It wasn't Archie's fault. Same applies to Romo. Has Romo blown games? Absolutely. I will put the Jets game on him. But, I will also put the 49ers game on him as well. Dallas SHOULD have lost that game. You are a 7-6 team. With Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees you might be a 9-4 team. With Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy you are probably a 3-10 team. Romo has done a good job this year. You are nowhere NEAR being the 13-0 team that you proposed earlier, even if Aaron Rodgers was your quarterback at his best.

VERY well-stated. This team just is what it is - a .500 club more or less. Some Cowboys fans forget how long its been since we were winners, and how long it's been since we had the talent to BE winners. Testeverde, Carter, Bledsoe, Hutchinson, etc. - and we're complaining about Romo???? REALLY???

Nobody here realizes what I am saying about Romo. I'm not saying he is a bad QB ability wise. He is just not a championship QB. It doesn't even matter if he led them to a game tying FG. The point is he could have wrapped up the game for a win with the completion to Austin who was wide open and Romo was not even under pressure. Romo has a past of blowing games in the 4th quarter or end of game and I don't think that will change. I hope I am wrong, but after 6 years I think he is what he is going to be.

Maybe they need a new QB coach who can fix this about him, but again I doubt it.

I would take Tebow in a heartbeat and give him a year or two. He could be another Steve Young. Steve Yound sucked when he first came in if you will remember.

I wasn't referring to the game.
  • Steve Young did suck when he first came into the league. Not because Steve Young sucked, but because he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Notice how Steve Young suddenly became a much better quarterback when he had Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Brent Jones, Tom Rathman, and Roger Craig as opposed to Gerald Carter, Calvin Magee, Phil Freeman, and a worn down James Wilder. What an amazing transformation! I can guarantee you this: If Steve Young had stayed with the Buccaneers and never been traded, he would have been Archie Manning part two, and he would never have gotten a sniff of the Hall of Fame. If the Cowboys offered Tony Romo to the Broncos straight up for Tim Tebow in the off-season, the Broncos would be fools to turn that deal down. If Romo were to become the quarterback of a legitimately talented team (Packers, Saints, Patriots, etc...) he would have gaudy stats and win/loss records that would be similar to the records these teams have now. He isn't at the level of Rodgers, Brees, and Brady. But he is at that next level. And, yes, a talented team could win Super Bowls with Tony Romo as their quarterback.

The Cowboys won't be winning anything until Rob Ryan quits eating so many donuts. All that sugar is clouding his mind and impairing his ability to think clearly. Why else would he be calling so many blitzes leaving the sorry ass secondary in man on man coverage? I blame donuts.

  • Steve Yound's brother Robin was a great baseball player.

  • If Tony Romo was on Law and Order he would get a sweet plea deal even though everyone knows he is guilty.

    Makes me wanna puke.

<< <i>>>>I don't see any valid arguments against Romo as the Cowboys starter. <<<

There's also a chance Staubach could have missed on an earlier TD throw and the Cowboys could have settled for a FG. He was able to pass for 4 TD's against the Giants, the same as Brees and Rogers, so I don't see how either of them would have done any better for the Cowboys. No QB can carry a team themselves, the defense has to offer some support.
