So let me get this straight, if you don't have a PO Box, Steve sent them United Parcel Service which doesn't come until 4-5 PM here. So I still have a chance today !!!??? Who's getting what, How, UPS or USPS ??

<< <i>Here's to hoping! Today has the potential of being a great day. Sunny and 78 today in NE Ohio, playing hooky and golfing at 10:15am, then going home early to watch the porch! >>
UPS just arrived, with a package for meeeee from Steve Hart! I may not have won the free pack for posting scans first, but I did win the battle of Ohio! That'll teach ya to play hookie, and go golfing! Which packs to open first??? Decisions decisions.
<< <i>I did get a package from BBCE yesterday. It's something a little special for my PC. It's a complete unopened box with 36 Packs from Topps. It has something to do with the desert. It also has something to do with the word shield??? >>

Hookie was worth it, I was golfing at Mayfair GC in your neck of the woods!
Arrived home to see a glorious package sitting on my porch, ripping will commence tonight!
No time to rip now because the wife has me running around with her tonight, but I did have a chance to check the fronts and backs, and I got a pack with Nolan Ryan on the front and Eddie Murray on the back!!! (1978 OPC)
Got my 10 packs in today and ripped them with my 12 year old. Quite a bit of star power, but not much high grade.
Sort of funny story. My son wanted to rip the '79 topps cellos (2 packs). There were no stars on the front, and I told him to check the backs before he opened them. Turns out one of the packs had Ozzie Smith on the back!!! He said, "I couldn't tell who it was, so I opened it". It was fairly off center. No big deal, I probably would have ripped it anyway and he got the joy of finding Ozzie on the last card of the pack, so it was cool.
Other notables were a nice '77 OPC Tom Seaver that I'll likely grade and a '79 Johnny Bench that looks pretty good.
Thanks for setting this up, it was a lot of fun, and I'm developing a new addict in the house!
Re: I got a pack with Nolan Ryan on the front and Eddie Murray on the back!!! (1978 OPC)
Question - say you had one pack like this that would be nice to get graded and all the other packs didn't have star power, would it be wise to break up the full box to grade the one pack (assuming you are not ripping)?

Afternoon,
I am not sure what I am doing with my two Boxes yet myself, I know I'm keeping one Intact untouched, the other I may Rip until I hit something or ?? Anyway between myself and others buying boxes if you end up with a box with 34 or 35 packs I am sure somebody will sell you that to keep a box full count, just need to note that Star/Star Pack was pulled.

Actually Collect Non Sport, but am just so full of myself I post all over the place !!!!!!!
my '78 box has some obvious hard packed curves on right side of top and left side of bottom leading me to believe that there could be some warpage with the cards from the moisture over time or something. Any suggestions? Should I alert Steve and send them back? Thoughts
I'm not by any means trying to be argumentive here, but if these were from a sealed case, I don't see how Steve could be held responsible for the condition of untouched boxes from a sealed case. I would open them and take what I got.

<< <i>my '78 box has some obvious hard packed curves on right side of top and left side of bottom leading me to believe that there could be some warpage with the cards from the moisture over time or something. Any suggestions? Should I alert Steve and send them back? Thoughts >>
my box of 78's was real nice.. only 1 ryan and 1 murray but overall I was pleased.. few packs were warped but if put in a screw down.,.. will be ok.. think I pulled a few gems
My box had a rough edge/corner also, along with what felt like warpage on the top. I was concerned until I opened the box. The packs were just fine, no pack-warpage, no card-bendage, just solid packs and cards! Fact is, these boxes come in a 33-year-old case, some boxes line the bottom edges/corners, and some guys will draw the short straw of getting one of those bottom boxes. I know for a fact that my box was from a bottom/corner, and my cards couldn't be nicer.
The first thing I did was inspect the cards on top and bottom of each pack. I had some stars showing like Bench, Fingers, two B.Robinson RBs, and a Rose RB. The cream of the crop, and the highlight of my box was the pack with Nolan Ryan #105 on TOP, along with Eddie Murray on BOTTOM!!
As you can imagine, I nearly pooped...
So after several hours of husbandly duties, I was finally able to start ripping! I have to say, I've ripped a 1978 Topps baseball box before, and this OPC box was about ten times more fun. The card stock is better, I'm loving the rough-cut, and I pulled TWO MURRAY RCs, along with a THIRD that's in the pack that's staying sealed!! Three Murrays and three Ryan base cards!! Blowing my mind!
I've got a great amount other stars and HOFers, but I really can't scan them tonight, it's already after 1am and I'm tired. Just wanted to add, I set aside the wax and gum card in each pack so I don't have to look for them later. Every card went into a penny sleeve, so I'll look for GEMs later. The gum stuck to the card-back in each pack, but it peels off with ease, leaving no stain or marks.
Officially my favorite box in the history of my 25 years of collecting!
EDIT TO ADD: I ended up ripping the other stars-on-top packs because none of those packs would have pulled as big of a premium as a Murray or Ryan pack, and one of those Murray cards came out of the star packs! Glad I talked myself into ripping them!
OK, well i got my 2 packs of 1979 Topps Baseball cellos today and then I had to go to work, so I didn't really look at them. Well tonight I did and they are much thinner than the '82 & '83 cellos I bought. So I looked at the label and they say O-Pee-Chee. I don't want these, as I believed I was ordering 2 of the regular Topps cellos. Now is/was this a mistake on my part or did I receive the wrong cellos? They are really nice and tight packs, but I just would like the regular topps.

Looking forward to someone chiming in on this. The packs do indeed say OPC on the label.
However, I'm sure the cards inside are regular Topps cards, at least they look like it to me.

Do they state TOPPS in the bottom left hand corner of the card or OPC? The backs note that in Canada they are distributed by OPC.
The picture of the '79 cellos posted by MacrosB earlier, clearly shows Topps wrapping and cards. Are some people getting something that looks different?
Got a chance to scan my packs. Again, no star power showing. I am starting to take it personally!
The nice thing about the 79s, though, is that Ron Cey and Al Bumbry were two of my favorite non-Phillies players back then, so it was kind of cool to see them both.
The 1976 Wax Pack looks very nice, the back being very clean and even. There's a little scuffing or something on the lower right front, but other than that a great looking pack. I cannot tell who's in the back.
I ripped the 83s as they were loose anyway and I don't like the loose cellos, so obviously they are not in the scan.
I believe all cello packs say, "In Canada made and distributed by O-Pee-Chee Co., Ltd."
It's printed on the white section on the side/back of the wrapper. However, I think if you look above the price on the front, it will say the manufacturer/distributor of the pack. Mine all say Topps.
Wow Jeff it sounds like you got a lot of bang for your buck!
The Murray on the right obviously has great centering. What is your first thoughts on how that will grade? It looks really strong to me but I have no real eye for rough cut cards.
Ya well I'm a bonifide loser novice when it comes to BB cards and cellos, since I've only been back collecting since 6/08/09, when I bought my first graded card. I did however do the coin collecting thing over ar PCGS for 10 years...
I have enjoyed collecting BB cards a hellava lot more than I ever did collecting coins!
OPC did not produce cello packs in 1979 anyway. In fact, OPC did not produce any baseball cello packs at all, to my knowledge, at least throughout the 1970s.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

I didn't pull anything from my 2 '81 FB packs.
I got some decent star power from the '84's...then I pulled this.
Not the greatest Marino RC in the world, but I'm thrilled that I finally pulled one.

Maybe it was a mixed box? If you don't want them, I know Steve will make it right.
