Just got this 1/2 cent in the mail (not my pictures). Reverse is rotated (not shown rotated in the picture)
Thoughts?

I think that half cent is freakin' gorgeous- i've had the notion that someday i need to do a set of half cents... what grade is this piece?

Thanks. I traded in my VG08 for this one (I liked that one, considering the grade and the look it had for the grade, but liked this one a lot too!)
    Rotation is ~45% CW

A very tough (and special) coin in any grade. Cool "strings of berries" reverse, like the '93 Large Cent. Congratulations.

Planchet a tough on the rough side, but there sure is a lot of meat left on that bone! Excellent coin & congrats on the NEWP.

Nice even color. A lot of history in that coin.

    Thanks guys.

I've seen so many of these that don't have nice color, are really really rough, or have other problems, even in these grades, that when I saw this one, even though I was 100% fine with my previous one, I wanted to go after it. I was pleasantly surprised to actually win it.

    Bochiman-
A nice 1793 -- the roughness is certainly minor. Is the green stuff worrisome to you? I cannot disagree much with Mark's grade.
I looked back in M&G auction records and this net grade is actually pretty scarce.

Nice strike, pleasing color, good surfaces = GREAT coin

So many of these you see have some sort of distraction as you say. I can totally understand why you grabbed this one. Well done!

Here's mine. It's got the surfaces and the color, but the rims aren't so hot. Back when I bought this in the late 1980s, that brought the price down a lot. It now resides in an NGC VF-35 holder. That's a little high for it IMO, but I could see it netting to VF-20 or so. The EAC guys would net it to Fine-12. Smooth, brown surfaces really drive up the prices in today's market.

The best one I ever handled was a "perfect" AU-50. I sold that one to favored customer for $48,000. It would be worth more than $100,000 today.

Nice coin, Bill, as usually image

Your points are, also as usual, pretty much dead-on. If you want "perfect", you will pay out the nose for something like this. I really liked the VG08 I bought earlier this year and traded back for partial credit. I paid up for it, and, sure, there is ALWAYS something that someone can nitpick on a 208 year old copper coin, but it looked better than many of the F/VF I have seen.

If you don't have limitless funds, find one that meets your goals and looks good...but there will be "something" with it. Sometimes folks also forget that our pics blow things up much larger than a normal eye will see, so as long as it looks good, inhand, and with a loupe, to me, it's good image
