BU 64 Kennedy roll...worth only melt?

I think yes...I'm pretty sure yes...but still seems a shame. A friend's mom got it from the bank she owned in the 60's in Bradenton FL.

yep - I just sent a bunch of BU Kennedys to the smelter. BU Franklins too. XF-AU Walkers (BUs went to PCGS) and G-F Barbers.

I have about 30 1964's in BU. They are beautiful. I roll and a half roll...originals from the bank. I have about 50 slug franklins...a couple rolls of junk silver dimes...and heck, a bunch of other stuff. When I look at the price guides and what melt is...they are only worth melt. Part of me wants to keep this crap for the kids when they are older but another part of me wants to dump this stuff and buy high quality collectible key date coins.

COMMON DATE MS63s and lower are worth within melt range....$20 or less. MS64s and higher I would keep. This is crazy!

    Look at it this way:

Your numismatic premium was swallowed by the rapidly rising silver price. Now you are vastly ahead.

I purchased 1964 Kennedy Proof rolls for $60 a few years back. Premium gone, price rose.

  • You can add to that list most of the silver modern commemorative coins unless MS/PR70.

Heck I'm looking to sell 2010 ATB silver quarters for 3% BELOW melt.

That would be about right.... Cheers, RickO

Yes, melt, especially in this market.

For common date, high might stuff like BU JFK half dollars, the melt value now exceeds the numismatic value.

No kidding ... If silver bullion goes down the value of these JFK half dollars will fall with it.

I have bought BU Kennedy's for melt years ago. Still have them. Silver then was $6.50, now $46.00

My Silver proof state quarters are now worth melt except 1999 and 2001. I hope silver goes high enough for the 1999's to be worth melt.image
