My only worries in this series are (1) everyone has seemed to make Texas the favorites, and (2) StL having the home field (i.e. pitchers hit) advantage. Ceej and Ogando aside, that's a concern. I hear ya, but I don't have a problem with St. Louis having home field. The players and managers knew what was on the line at the All Star Game and the Rangers had several representatives and the manager and couldn't get it done. CJ served up meat to Prince Fielder, and Fielder is not going to miss that meal and it went for a 3 run blast. Now CJ has a chance to atone against St. Louis and swing home field back to Texas We'll see how he does.

Mike >>
I actually do not know. I have never met him in person. I know my son and I try to get autographs down by the dugout when we go to games (at least once a year) and I have never seen Pujols signing. In September it was Skip Schumaker. Good luck getting one. I hope you do.
<< <i>Poor Gumby. The Brew Crew just can't seem to get past those Cardinals even after 29 years. I would feel exactly the same way if I were in your shoes. >>
Hardly. I enjoyed a great season by my home team. It was their winningest season in franchise history. We had 2 legitimate MVP candidates (hopefully one of them will win it). We set a new high water mark for attendance. I made it to just under 40 games this year and only saw them lose 5 times...unfortunately 2 of those losses were in the NLCS.
In retrospect, I wish things would have been done differently in the playoffs. Our rookie manager had a great season, but made a few key missteps in the playoffs that will likely haunt him. The biggest being that the Brewers lost 26 home games this season...and Shaun Marcum started 13 of those games. Why they trotted him out at home twice in the NLCS will be questioned for the next 29 years.
That takes nothing away from the Cardinals. They won the series. Just goes to show that sometimes a hot team beats a good team.

Congrats man. That is really, really freaking cool.
As I expected, Rangers drop Game 1. They'll win the next four in a row though. Rangers fans, please don't come in griping about the Beltre foul ball in the 9th that the ump ruled was fair, thereby taking the bat out of the hand of the Rangers most powerful hitter. That's just part of the game. If they hadn't been so impotent throughout the game, that play wouldn't have mattered. I'm sure there will be a call or two that doesn't go the Cardinals way later on as it all tends to equal out.
Congrats St. Louis on your Game 1 win, enjoy it, it's the only one y'all are going to get. Rangers in 5.

Washington seems to have brain lock. a few gaffs in last years WS, running his bench dry in the All Star game and last nights questionable PH use of German, he was so rusty.
As expected, Rangers take game 2 and recapture home field. Another entertaining game to watch. For all the naysayers, and bandwagon fans that were calling in to the talk shows today down here, and letting the Rangers have it, and basically saying "The Sky is Falling", in my best Tim McCarver, I've got 3 words for you, "Screw you!", LOL.
Way to go Rangers. Can't wait till Saturday. Maven and I will be there doing our part.
Nice to see Washington decided against intentionally walking another hitter with 14 HRs in 3000 career PAs...though he tried to make up for it initially by attempting to give away an out by bunting with Andrus.

Mark it down, I was wrong, LOL, it's only happened for the last 35 years as well concerning the Rangers. Just got home from Game 3 tonight. I left in the 6th inning when it was 11-6 I think, not because of the game, but Maven was not her usual self, and because the people I was sitting by were acting very innappropriately especially considering they were sitting by my 7 year old daughter. They should know better than to act that way in public, I think that's why Maven was not her usual self as well as she was wondering what was up with them. It was baiscally two 45 year olds that needed to get a room. Not an enjoyable experience at all.
Was interesting to see Pujols finally get going. Perhaps now he won't act like a spoiled, pompous brat, and will talk to the media instead of storming off cause he's pissed. I bet he soaks up all the glory he can get with this one.
Rangers trail 2 games to 1. They may have lost the battle, but I still feel they'll win the war.
The flyover of the 4 F-16's was amazing! The whole stadium thundered. It was pretty neat. Can't wait till tomorrow. Will get to share the field with the former President as I'll be one of the flag bearers while he throws out the first pitch. Will try to take some pics but will have to see what the protocol is.
Ogando would be well on his way to a HOF career if only he could pitch to Detroit every game!! He won the ALCS for you, now he's trying like mad to taketh away! Sorry, the only thing that could possibly keep me from cheering for Texas is that smug-faced Bush sitting next to the legendary HOF pitcher whom I have unconditional respect for and would otherwise be wishing a victory for.....
I understand the perception of Pujols being that way, Mike. I have a couple of thoughts on it.
Number 1, he did wait 40 minutes Friday night for reporters to get to him. They didn't, so he left. I have seen him surly at times, but those times are generally when the media is in attack mode. I have watched his entire career and seen him more times than not be very cordial and understanding towards the media. That is just a general observation.
Number 2, Albert Pujols has strapped the Cardinals on his back so many times and carried them the last 11 years, that I could really care less about him being a little less than buddy buddy with the media that is always trying to find something wrong with guys on top.
The bottom line is that we just witnessed the greatest offensive performance in World Series history that includes over 108 years and 620 games.

I read an article about Pujols on yahoo that just completely slammed him for displaying poor leadership after the game two loss. I like Pujols, not a huge fan, but I thought it was really unfair, I always felt they're paid to perform on the field, not make the media happy. Nice to see him have a great game three, looked like some excellent leadership to me.
You don't have to justify him to me. Would I want him on the Rangers? Heck yeah. Doesn't matter to me if he is a pretentious tool or not, if he's 25,35,45,55, if he uses HGH or doesn't, as long as he produces on the field, I'd rather have him in a heartbeat over the platoon of Moreland, Napoli, and Young.
Heck, I'm a fan of Josh Hamilton and he's no choir boy himself. (I do wish though that Washington would bench hiim if he's truly only 50% as he's hurting the Club right now. Almost anyone on the roster, including the pitchers could have gotten the sacrifice fly he got in Game 2)
In honor of Alberto, one signed rookie for ever homer last night (Shane, post up your Topps Traded one dnd maybe he'll hit another one in garbage time, LOL)
I'm generally NOT the guy that blames anyone for getting an ass-whipping, but Marquez and Kulpa had every bit as much to do with that game as Pujols. High-leverage calls at key junctures.
Marquez has a LONG history of impacting Rangers' games with absurd calls; he's the one who most recently cost Texas a game in Minn earlier this year for coaches interference at 3B when Young barely touched the coach on his way around third for an easy score. And Kulpa?? How do ML umpires still get away with not conferring on calls and just "winging it"??

I agree that the call was blown and had an impact in that inning, but if you give up 16 runs I think there is really nothing left to say. Pujols should be the highlight of the game considering he accomplished something that has never been matched in World Series history, whether the other ones happened in garbage time or not. :-) To me no lead seemed safe for practically all of it. I'm just glad that they got the Ian Kinsler play at second the other night right as it was a bang bang play. I thought that Jon Jay might have been safe at the plate, but it was really hard to tell and could have went the other way. In all honesty, despite the blown call at first I think the play that could have had a larger impact on a game was Adrian Beltre and the foul off his foot. It was a tight game and getting him out on that was big. You typically do not see balls go that far fair after hitting a foot, but then again you do not see many guys jump up and down after not being hit unless your name is Jeter. Through three games, the Cardinals deserved to win two and the Rangers deserved their win.
Pujols historically plays really well after issues come up in the media, and I just wish that he can remain pissed off this week and get pitches to hit.

Yeah, I don't mean to minimize his historic night, but having to overcome 5 run leads not once but twice due to blown calls will generally lead to a blowout. No way a team can keep coming back.
That being said, this Cardinals team is a LOT better than I was aware of. Not seeing many NL games, they were quite a mystery to me. They have earned whatever they get this year; I just wish the Rangers could also get what they have earned so far.
Oh, and I've been saying for a year that if I ever see Marquez in person I will punch him in the nuts.

<< <i>I understand the perception of Pujols being that way, Mike. I have a couple of thoughts on it.

Pujols historically plays really well after issues come up in the media, and I just wish that he can remain pissed off this week and get pitches to hit.

<< <i>I agree that the call was blown and had an impact in that inning, but if you give up 16 runs I think there is really nothing left to say.
