got mine today... 5 more misfires.. pulled a nice brooks robby though..
will be subbing 15 cards out of the 10 packs... that I think have a shot at 9+

in the second grouping centering wasn't so great.. except one pack had great centering and perfect corners

  • onefasttalononefasttalon Posts: 1,207 ✭✭✭
damn tsalems1... those cards are NICE!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • Got my five packs, nothing terribly exciting. Five cards have the gum hermetically sealed to the back of the card. Already wrecked one trying to get it off, any thought on getting the others off clean or are those cards throw aways? Scans later
  • gameusedhoopgameusedhoop Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭✭
freezing it works sometimes. put it on a paper plate it the freezer for a half hour then try dropping it gum side down on a table. if the gum hasn't melted into the card it usually works well.
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
why isnt this at the top???

Also, if the gum has stained through the card, just dump it, unless it is a star or home team
  • My first group rip and pretty much came up empty. All commons except a Lynn rookie. Unfortunately, it was a gum card.
Interested in any Favre stuff you have to offer. image
  • Thanks gameusedhoop, didnt work, if the gum did come off, it ripped the back of the card, shame, those were two of the better cards. Anyway, thanks for your help

ALRIGHT! Kids are put to bed... so my packs are dead meat!

    Pack #1... NOT BAD!

Up first... the cards I will NOT be submitting:

    image

That Lemaniujleilsdf card was the gum card.

    image

... and these are the cards I will be submitting:

    image

That MVP card is just about DEAD NUTS! Man am I glad it was the card in the middle of the pack!
The Cey isn't bad... a little OC top-to-bottom, but not enough to get the qualified (I hope.)

    Off to a Good Start!!!!

I've ripped 9 of my 10...its not terrible, but nothing great, either.

My 10th pack has the Nolan Ryan / Steve Carlton Strikeout Leaders card on the back. Do I open or grade it? image
  • onefasttalononefasttalon Posts: 1,207 ✭✭✭
    Pack #2...

Nothing real noteworthy... but the centering is getting better!

first up, the cards I won't be submitting:

    image

The Murcer was the gum card....darn it...

    image

... and these three will be graded:

    ... and Pack #3....

First, the cards I won't be submitting:

    image

    image

That WS card is nice, but was the gum card... darn it.
The Jackson/Rose MVP card might be my favorite of all the MVP cards in the set.. so I was happy to get it!... buuuut, that centering sucks.

... and the cards I'll submit:

    image

The Hendricks is nice... just a common, but the only quality card in the pack.
The Concepcion is OC, possibly a 7 but as a Reds fan I've always liked his cards.

    ... onto the 4th!

How bad is the gum sticking on the back? My 2 packs the gum came right off no problem and
    the cards were fine

    Russ,

You have Cey and Russell! If you get Garvey and Lopes, you get the whole 70s Dodger infield, and we would have to give you a prize for that! Maybe some Chris Sabos!

    Pack #4....

Again, no major stars, but the centering returned to the good side!

.... first, the cards I won't be submitting:

... and the three I will submit:

Up next... 5th and last pack.

    Cards I won't be submitting:

    image

... and cards I will submit:

    image

... yep... there was one more card in that pack....

.... say it with me... SON OF A........

I don't know if it'd be any good in a PSA 9OC slab or not... might be better left raw.... damn it.

My "hits" from my four packs include the following:

    image

Only problem is that the Fisk has gum stuck to it and I can't get it off without tearing the paper on the back. image

  • mikeschmidtmikeschmidt Posts: 5,756 ✭✭✭
some great pulls so far! I cannot wait to get my packs -- I'm hoping to hit a Schmidt!

Can you soak the Fisk card to soften and then remove the gum?
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I'm trying the freezer trick someone suggested. So far, most of the gum has come off with great results. Putting back in the freezer for the rest of it. I've heard of cold hard cash before, but not cold hard cards.

    Here's my pack.

I'm not sure what's worse, being chased by a pack of rabid wolves or pulling a pack fresh Ryan with a crease?

"Has anyone pulled the Yount or Brett out of these 3 boxes?"

Not yet, but there are a LOT of packs yet to be either opened or shared....

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • My guess is that you'll see one Brett and one Yount at the most. I'll be pleasantly suprised if we see 2 or more of each, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm still at work but assume my packs are home. Come back later. And remember, if anyone doesn't want their Mets cards, I'll trade ya.

    Here they are:

I pulled the same card with the exact same crease. I wonder if it was a big problem with that card?
