here's to hoping that my packs arrive today and that they arrive containing a minty fresh Mike Schmidt!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Here are seven of the cards I got from the RIP [there were six other beautiful commons that I did not scan correctly.
First two
Second two:
The Fingers is too o/c from l/r for my tastes. The Munson is BEAUTIFUL, but it has an indentation on the right side right where the pink/purple meet. You may be able to see from the scan.
Some more beautiful commons:
And my best score of all!
Be interested to hear thoughts on the Ryan. Seems like it may have a bit of a tilt. Not perfectly centered, and some minor imperfections along the top border. But color, centering, corners all seem pretty darn fantastic to me! I've placed a big scan for honest feedback. But I'm super excited by the card!!!

I straightened out the image and added lines to see how it looks.
By the scan the top appears very funky. I believe that could be designated as a factory MC.
<< <i>Not much of a rough cut on the Ryan on the top and bottom border.????? >>
The top is slightly rough, but it does not come through on the scan [there are some micro-divots from the rough cut]. The bottom is very sharp. Definitely, the left and right sides are both relatively rough as compared to the top. The bottom is not rough cut at all.

I know it's been discussed to death, but what did they use to cut these at the factory, butter knives???

They did use airplane wire, which was replaced only when it could no longer cut, which is why smoothly cut OPC issues are so tough to come by.
That Aaron is a true gem and should be a lock for a Mint 9 which should command $500+ IMO..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I think the Aaron gets a 9 20% of the time, 8.5 20% of the time, and 8 60% of the time. That being said, if it doesn't 9 the first time it will probably get a return trip. I can't find anything wrong with it.
How many 75 OPCs have you submitted? I've subbed quite a few, gotten a few 10s and my share of 9s and that Aaron has a definite shot at mint 9. Don't forget that giant scans tend to exaggerate minor flaws. And PSA does not downgrade for the rough cut on the OPC issue. That's about as good as it gets for an OPC issue..

I've opened 2 of 3. The last one will remain closed for now. I'm sure there are others that are keeping sealed packs, and others that won't or can't post scans.
Yep, its a little bit of a downer that we haven't see a Brett or Yount yet.... or Rice, or Carter... but we have see more than enough to convince me the packs are plenty legit.
Toro has 20 packs that we've yet to see or hear the results of... and eventually, he'll either share or he wont. What he does with his packs is his concern. I hope he gets BOTH the Brett and Yount in his 20... honestly I do!
I think we've see a little more than half our total packs so far... but there are plenty of packs yet to be shared.
I've had so much fun ripping this product it's made me want to chase the entire set!
I opened my next two packs and got a Tom Seaver which has a wax stain on front (no big deal) and the rest are commons. Condition was pretty close to the first packs so overall alot of chances at 8s and 9s commons.
On the issue of people calling out that A. The cards are altered and B. The packs are not legit.
First these cards are about as pristine of OPC cards as I have seen. The fact that there can be legit smooth cuts is well established and is confirmed by these packs.
Secondly, there have been now 2 Ryans regular cards and a Aaron pulled. If a scammer was going through all this trouble to pull the hits from these packs there is no way that the Aaron or Ryan just pulled stays in those packs. Zero chance. They would have been pulled and at the most a crappier version of each put into their place.
As far as why there is no Brett or Yount yet, I think this goes to show you how poorly the cards were collated back then. There have been what 5 Fred Lynn RC's? Other HOF's in multiples of 3 or 4? I guarantee you if you were to open a case of this stuff you would go 3 to 4 boxes w/o a particular card and then get 2 to 3 in the next 2. That is how this stuff goes, its a very common issue with 70's material.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
there have probably been about 60 total packs opened so far out of 3 boxes that I have seen, at 8 cards a pack , should be enough to make 2 complete sets! I think you guys were taken
seriously, I opened a full box of these from steve a few years ago. I pulled a brett and carter. no yount , ryan , lynn or rice. someone is still going to get some good hits on the big rookies if they all get opened but what I have seen so far, many of these cards are on the other side of the print run given there are 2 ryans and a bunch of lynns. I did see a bunch of cards and sequences that I pulled , von joshua anyone.
as for collation, I opened an 80 opc box as well, 36 packs , we pulled 8 joe ferguson's! I will never forget that box. before you say the box was a fake , we also pulled a psa 10 nolan ryan and 2 other ryans.
enjoy , have fun , remember opening wax is a complete gamble but for most of us it is more fun than the casino

Sorry...I should have mentioned that I pulled a Rice. It's about 60/40 l/r, but otherwise nice.

Also, it's too bad that this Lynn was the gum card. With the imperfection on the back, is it a lost cause to submit this?
<< <i>Don't bother submitting the Lynn with the paper loss on the back. I think the max grade would be a 2? >>
Puke. That makes me sick.
What about the other cards? Would you submit them? I'm still trying to get my grading eye into focus.

<< <i>OUCH! How bad is the crease? I can't see it in the scan. >>
It runs from the card border above the "T" down to Ryan's elbow. >>
I pulled the same card with the exact same crease. I wonder if it was a big problem with that card? >>
That Ryan card is in the far right column on the uncut sheet so it could be where the machine grabs the sheet?
Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972
Oh, and this little gem!!
I think it's a surefire 8, outside shot at 9.
ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

... actually, I heard they let the 'green belts' Karate-Chop the cards out of the sheets.

<< <i>That MVP card has 9 written all over it. >>
Unfortunately, the bottom of the card looks to be touched directly beneath the 1975.

No way. Aaron gets an 8 or 8.5. No way it gets a 9.
If it were I, I would be upset. Am I alone here?
Thanks

So according to you guys, you have seen 150 opened on here? You might want to re-count. We've seen less than half publicly opened on here.
