Suggestion to PCGS

Stop allowing free email accounts to be used when signing up for an account. The number of reoccurring trolls is getting a bit much IMO. By only allowing registered accounts you will make it a more accountable environment.

I am not saying kick people off, just for new members or old memebers looking for an alt.

If I were a new member interested in joining the forum, I would still have to join with my free e-mail account I've had since 1986.

If you require a registered email account, you could loose new good members who only have a free email account. I would have been one of them if this policy was put in place and enforced (provided I wasn't a member already).

I just registered across the way, and they have a policy of no free email accounts. I thought I was sunk, but I tried anyways with my gmail account and it worked.

Using free email accounts is becoming more and more the standard. I had to change by personal and business email when adelphia went bankrupt. now I'm thinking of changing ISPs which makes my earthlink email in jeopardy. I've already created my gmail account which I can port to any ISP but I haven't figured out when to bite the bullet and make the switch....so I don't think your suggestion, although I agree with the problem statement, is a good solution.

Perhaps some other verification would be in order, but I don't know what to suggest.

I dunno. Trolls will probably still get in, no matter what.

And lots of us, myself included, have free email accounts.

NGC does exactly as you suggest, and that's the reason I've never been able to post on their forums "across the street"- they don't allow Hotmail addresses.

(And just think of all the pithy wisdom and witty repartee they're missing as a result...) image

I have seen other forums require that you submit contact info such as a daytime/evening phone number as well as an actual street address. This is the only real way for verification and accountability.

Having said that, I dont feel that it should be CU's responsibility to have one of their employees paid just to handle such a task.

Im sure that CU is well aware that this message forum dramatically helps their bottom line in that it keeps not only coins, but PCGS graded coins in the spotlight and forefront of our minds. However, there is a "breaking point" for any endeavor in regards to its ROI, and I feel that with each additional pot-stirring alt that signs up just to cause trouble.....that breaking point draws ever closer. image

What is a registered email account? Is my Yahoo registered? To whom is it registered and
    what does that mean?

Wonder how many Alt's would be willing to fork out for a Silver level membership. If this keeps up I could see the forums becoming Collectors club members use only.
PCGS is a business and I am really glad they subsidize the forum but I can see them protecting themselves from attack by persons with agendas.

If this ever happened, you would see a mass migration to the NGC coin forums. Many loyal PCGS customers never buy raw coins to submit to any grading service since they only buy coins that are already slabbed.

And I will admit that for a long time I was one of them. But in a real sense how much money does PCGS make from people that do not submit coins. It is the submitters that pay for all this. It is a lot like buying a used car the manufacture does not make money. And maybe if we all paid to support the forums they would not need those ads as much.

I think we got to many rules and to much moral police to be wanting to add more hurdles. Trolls ( what ever they are) will always get around any roadblocks. Are the trolls the same ones that eat spam? I hated that stuff growing up and can't believe they can still sell it. Turn a blind eye and let the mods deal with it. No wonder we live in a stessful world, everyone gets worked up when the view or opinion does not match theirs. I have no problem with Ricko's love of dipped coins. ( boring but not my problemimage

I have only used Yahoo email since I went online in 1999. I have a paid email address (It came with my website) but I will not use it because I want nothing to do with a snobby site that does something like that. Thus- no posts from me on the NGC forum.

    Annoying, perhaps; snobby, definitely not
