The PCGS slab shape 1, 10 troy ounce (or larger) .999 Silver would make a great marketing tool for them. Not only would they be out in the public for the foreseeable future. for a reasonable price comapared to print advertising. They would make it on to auction sites and coin sale sites (Ebay, Teletrade, BST Board, Other forum sale boards.) constantly putting there name in the public.over and above what their product does. Also would make great corporate gifts and prizes for contests. Also BigE's idea for new subscribers is also a great way to get customers to sign up. It gives them a tangible in hand gift.

There are some fantastic ideas in this thread. I love the idea of a "PCGS" specific bar for us. But when you start talking about making the bars into the shape of slabs, now you are simply getting goofy! I dont know what the fabrication costs would be to strike out blanks that look like slabs (not even sure it can be done without CNC), but if its gonna cost $500 just for a TEXT/LOGO DIE, then you had better believe this silly idea on a slab shape aint gonna happen!!!
I think the idea was to have the die have the outline shape of a PCGS Slab Minted into a regular rectangular .999 fine Silver bar. I absolutely see your point gecko109 of shaping the bar itself like a slab might get to be cost prohibitive very quickly.

Why mention PCGS unless they are willing to foot some of the upfront costs? This would be a great project for PCGS to take the lead on. They could produce them with their logo and sell them for a small profit with a small discount for those willing to put their money up front prior to production. Great publicity for PCGS and they could use it to celebrate their 25th silver anniversary next year.

Not sure that PCGS wants to get into actually selling any collectibles. But I may be wrong. I definately would want something on the bar that specifies its origin, like "PCGS" or "Collector's Universe". Isnt that kind of the point of this proposal? To have a custom minted bar that somehow ties us all together?
Didn't the Red Book, Coin World, Numismatic News, etc sell silver rounds commemorating significant anniversaries? I feel PCGS should do something special for their silver anniversary next year to commemorate this significant milestone. A silver round and a 5 oz or 10 oz silver bar would be great and it would be a chance to help their revenue flow and to generate some positive publicity.

PCGS has to be notified since these are their boards. The bar doesn't have to be 2 sided, as the reverse of the object doesn't need to be there Gecko We need to see what we can put on the bar anyway. I will PM Don, maybe someone can post about this on the Q and A forum, and some could e-mail pcgs also and PM. ------------BigE
Why don't you all work on some designs and I will prepare a clear schedule of terms and pricing, so we can propose this to PCGS in turnkey form, if we do all the legwork they can just run with it. Perhaps we could put together a printed proposal to show to the PCGS representatives at the Baltimore coin show this summer? Will most of you be there? Anyone interested could approach them to express their interest in buying the bars. They might love the idea of a 25th anniversary silver bar, I love the idea.
PCGS does not want to get involved with the bar. It is ok for us to do. I said we would submit a copy of the final design before we proceed with any production. And no ideas presented here are "silly", all suggestions appreciated, at least by me
<< <i>PCGS does not want to get involved with the bar. >>
If PCGS doesn't get involved, we may not be able to used the PCGS logo as some have suggested due to trade mark issues.

#1 As P. Hall mentioned --what ogo cna we use ...I like the CU logo to tie to the board
#2 Donated silver does not sound feasible...that would be like herding cats... pool the money, buy the bullion ,1000x times easier and the process starts almost immediatly
#3 1 oz bars will let many more people in (see #2)
I like the design. Totally agree with the idea of just buying the thing with cash. Sending in the silver is too complicated for me.

a 5 or 10 oz bar would eliminate that issue, same size, just fatter. Aka "PCGS art fatties"
