This is a sale by one of the known owners of the MS67 High Leafs. He listed it as a buy it now for more ($16K, I think) and got a $10K offer. He called me today for my opinion on whether he should take it. I said it was a good offer.

Edited to add: Actually it was listed for $17K initially.

Holy Cow! Great for both parties. I ask out of ignorance, is this sort of purchase a registry thing?

Guess I should have tried to cross this one before selling it. image

Unbelievable!! I am constantly amazed at the lengths (financially especially) collectors will go to obtain these little metal discs. Now for those 'modern bashers'... How's that grab you??? image Cheers, RickO
  • WOW

I think I made this coin when they were first showing up.

I am embarrassed to think how much I sold it for at the time

Oh well, you win some and you lose some

I congratulate the seller of the one of only two WI High Leaf MS67 graded by PCGS. The sales price of 10K is 2/3 of the PCGS Price Guide which is pretty good considering the lousy economy. Now, many maybe checking their WI Quarters for possible Upgrades !! I wonder if sensible money could have bought this coin back in the haydays of 2005 - 2006 !! This coin would look great in my $6.95 WI quarter money clip !! Again, maybe there is some light at the end of the multi-year tunnel for these varieties !! I have thrown my crystal ball away several years ago. Congratulations are in order !! It's time to drink the Champagne !!

Wow! Sounds like the buyer had more money that brains. I can't imagine anyone giving a hoot about this coin in the future. I might pay .25 for it.

Does a bear indulge in a natural body process in the woods? It’s either a registry thing, or it’s a publicity thing that is calculated to enhance prices for registry related transactions in the future.

To put this in perspective, this coin could not have been bought in 2005-2006 for anything less than $50,000. In that same time 3-piece MS-67 NGC sets were selling on eBay for $6500 to $8500 peaking at $10,000.

  • I saw that coin on eBay .. It looked more like an NGC MS65-66 .. so how did that one pass PCGS as a 67??? image

I'm shocked that rare moderns bring so small a fraction of what rare classics bring. Normally
more recently dated coins are in more demand than older coins and often bring more. When
I was a kid a common and very new '50-D nickel could sell for close to $250 in todays money
while a "scarce" Wisconsin variety can be had in unc for about the same.

You can put together one heck of a modern collection for $10,000 if you're willing to do a lit-
    tle work.
